Why don't they mandate it - order visitors to change up 60k-100k at the airport - track them ensuring the money is spent unwisely at the malls and chain restaurants - when the money is dwindling quickly whisk them back up to swampy - frisk them to make sure they're not trying to fly out with any baht tucked in their socks - grab the next batch and hustle them off to the Kasikorn kiosk and so it goes on

Communist countries did this in the old days. When I went to Poland in the late 60s  I had to declare all the money I had and change a fixed amount into their currency. I had to spend all that money or donate it to charity in Poland. No possibility of changing it back.  If Thailand adopted this procedure they would demand too much and deter even more tourists !

This question has been asked and answered in other threads several times, but since you might no have seen it, here it goes.

First the Covid test is given at a foreign  jurisdictions  where Thailand has no control. so for many countries it is a good idea to have a test here , where the outcome can be verified.

Second , even if the first test is valid , It only tells you that you are not infected at the time of the test. A lot can happen in Three day.

The argument has been made that if you got infected in transit, 72 hours is not sufficient time for the infection to manifest it's self and be detectable by the second test. It is a falsie argument that fails to consider that the same detection parameters that apply to the first test, also apply to the second test . So during the first test , the subject could have also been infected less than three days before the test thus  the infection not detected, potentially  making the time from infection to second test in Thailand  6 days rather than 3.

So a person can depart with a negative test, but having spend a considerable time in a plane in close conduct with others, then probably having a layover in another foreign airport where said person is exposed to people also transiting from all over the world, has a higher probability of being infected than the general population that has not the same type of exposure, and could by the time he/she arrives test positive and import a new variant into Thailand.

So all the arriving passengers will be held in quaranteen until all the results are in ?  and  if one passenger is positive  - what happens ?

BP reporting swab hubs will be used outside the airport on arrival in BKK.

    This is to avoid overcrowding.

These could be at hotels, hospitals etc.

Saying that tourists will have to stay one night at hotel to receive results.

So after my 2 flight, 20 hour trip, i can look forward to any amount of hastles.

Queuing, waiting for buses, carted off in the Bangkok traffic to somewhere else to get tested. then carted back again?

Am i allowed to travel freely to my destination in Thailand?

Can't wait for the YouTube videos of this circus.

It's a nightmare !  Who wants to start a holiday like that ?

I got internet on my phone which I carry with me.  And I grew up using rotary dial telephones!  Eiesenhower was president when I was born.  I remember using pay phones and thought those were pretty cool to be able to call home from most places if needed and if I could find a dime !  Remember putting dimes in the top of my loafer shoes!  It really came in handy some times

Eisenhower was still a 4-star general when I was born.

Nice lie from them, here's the actual numbers from Thailands government website: https://www.mots.go.th/mots_en/more_news_new.php?cid=330&page=3

This is from 2018, so not old, but pre covid.

If you look at Tourism receipt numbers in USD or THB you can clearly see that Europeans plus Americans spend more than even China in Thailand, and way way more than the whole of ASEAN combined.

That is with FAR LESS people and thus causing far less infrastructure problems for Thailand. They also stay the most amount of time here with over 16 days on average.

The data shows that a Million tourists from UK generate 2.200 Million US$

a Million tourists from China generate  1.616 Million US$

This difference may be accounted for by the UK visitors staying longer

If I was the Generalissimo or his Deputy, I know which I would choose

I'm sure Europeans might be 'butt hurt' with this article. Do they seriously believe this?
Quote: "Europeans 'just don't bring much money"

What  they mean is that Europeans do not stay in  up-market hotels so much because they are just like any other up-market hotel around the world.  So the super-rich Hi-Sos who own those hotels do not get as much money as they would like form these tourists. Many European travellers like medium rate (or even bucket-rate) hotels because they have more atmosphere and the people are more friendly and genuine.  The same goes for restaurants. I often used to go to the open-air restaurants on Phetburi road to eat Thai/Issan food washed down with Singha beer at 90 Baht for a BIG bottle !  Can't wait to get back to the old days.

It's not a competition to see who has the worst system

As a visitor to the UK a few weeks back I had to self isolate in a hotel for 6 nights and pay about £160 for the 3 tests post arrival, and you think one night is a problem.

My wife came back to UK a few months ago and had to self-isolate. She self-isolated in our house. The only problem was that I had to continue doing all the shopping.  The point is that she (well me actually) did not need to spend any money on hotels.

As long as you keep any type of quarantine, few tourists will come. There might be some kind of arrival peak at first for all the people who wanted to come back to Thailand and were eagerly waiting for November without restrictions. But actual foreign tourists? Not so much...

It is just to save face and say: "we did it, we reopened Thailand!" but it won't help local businesses much and the situation will keep worsening.

So, yeah, step in the right direction, but more of a baby step...

I notice that these hoops are just the Pelimiary requirements - I guess there are more to come  ????

51 cases found in Pranburi? Were they all at the army base? Shut down the bases, and canning plants. We do not need the bases. What does the army do for the nation, anyway?

Phuket Sandbox is 7 days of island quarantine for vaccinated and tested people who can subsequently visit the rest of Thailand.

After the 7 days can I really go anywhere I want in Thailand  ?     Can I go to Mae Sot, Korat, Kanchanaburi, Udon Thani,  Surin,  Chumphon  ?   can I stay in any hotel or guest-house of my choice ?
