  1. Interesting, thanks. Can you post the source of the figures?
  2. She might need to tread carefully. Her early release is conditional. Would be interesting if she is recalled to jail for breaching the conditions of her early release.
  3. Gosh. We're shaking in our boots! American military defeats in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan suggests we would do better without your help, thanks.
  4. Fantastic to see him taking on Trump directly! Go Gavin!
  5. Not at all, why would I? I don't have a problem with England flags either.
  6. I didn't know that, and a Google/AI search suggests otherwise, except for certain serious indictable-only offenses where jury tampering is a risk, as allowed under Section 47 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003. Anyway, it's a moot point.
  7. Judges don't decide guilt or innocence in the UK. It would be down to a jury.
  8. Surely no right-minded person agrees with this law?
  9. I'm inclined to agree. If she had pleaded 'not guilty' there's a strong chance she would have been aquitted. Also, it was the dreadful mob violence and rioting that was taking place at the time that made her offence so serious. Had she gone to trial, the climate later would have been more helpful for her.
  10. "Muslims all vote Muslim"? Where do you get that from?
  11. Well, yes. Contempt of court is crucial for upholding the authority, integrity, and independence of the judiciary, ensuring that justice is administered fairly, and that court orders are obeyed. It's a very serious offence in the UK and rightly so. If someone incited someone to cut someone's throat, and their throat was cut, that would be extremely serious. But Ricky Jones didn't incite anyone, as determined in court.
  12. Just wanted to clarify the references to "Nazis" that was causing you some confusion. Glad it's clear now.
  13. And committed contempt of court, which is why he was jailed.
  14. Except that's nowhere near true. Birmingham does not have a Muslim majority population; in the 2021 census, 29.9% of residents described themselves as Muslim, while Christians made up the largest religious group at 34.0%.
  15. During the trial, Jones admitted his comments were "ill-advised" but denied they were intended to incite or encourage violence. He testified that his comment about "cutting throats" did not refer to the far-right protesters involved in the riots, but rather to people who had reportedly left National Front stickers with razor blades hidden behind them on a train. He told the court he was "appalled" by political violence and believes the best way to protest is peacefully. The prosecution (on behalf of the King/government) had argued that Jones used "inflammatory, rabble-rousing language" in a setting where violence could have been anticipated. However, because Jones pleaded not guilty, the decision was ultimately in the hands of the jury, which decided there was not enough evidence to prove his intent to incite violence. Hope this helps.
  16. Yes, MAGA and the Right in general are not renowned for their wit of sense of humour!
  17. Yes, the social media 'mob' on that sad day have a lot to answer for.
  18. We have free speech in the UK but not if it's likely to stir up racial hatred.
  19. Nothing to do with the PM. Connolly pleaded guilty and her sentence was upheld on appeal. The Labour man took his chance in court and was found not guilty. "Two-tier Kier" is a catchy slogan but bears no resemblance to reality.
  20. How can Epping Council be working on a new National policy? 🙄
  21. Council by-elections; only a few thousand vote and on local matters, so very little bearing on national politics.
  22. Correct. Maybe the flags were put up for the victorious Lionesses?
  23. Surely if there really was "two-tier" justice in the UK, she wouldn't have been released after serving only 40% of her sentence?! 🤔🙄
