  1. And risk death in the English Channel, or being locked up/deported if she can't prove she needs asylum? 🤔
  2. It doesn't work like that. The income of the non-British spouse is not assessed; only the income of the British person. You can marry a Thai millionaire, but if you do not meet the financial requirements they cannot live with you in the UK.
  3. Their T&Cs probably say that, as they're not aware that a Thai DL is printed in English! An IDP is just a translation of the licence.
  4. Sounds too sensible for the UK! We can petition all we like, but unfortunately the anti-immigrant sentiment in the UK is so strong that this a popular, vote-winning policy. Not that it will be enough to save the Tories, but I doubt Labour will change it as it will cost them votes.
  5. UKVI (not VFS) need to see her passport, so yes, they retain it unless you pay extra.
  6. It was only Walking Street, not the whole of Pattaya and yes, you'd be right to believe them as there was no evidence of prostitution visibly ("promiscuously" to quote the requirement in Thai law) taking place on Walking Street - it's a bar, gogo, club street, in case you didn't know.
  7. There is always resistance to change, but eventually most adapt.
  8. She doesn't need an IDP - a 5-year Thai licence is in English as well as Thai.
  9. Can't we just say there's "English" and "American"? Quite the Americans wanted to speak "English" when they had just broken away from the empire, I have no idea. Not the brightest, perhaps?
  10. Anyone used this lot: https://www.horizon-wealth-management.com/
  11. It wouldn't be politically popular in the UK. I doubt even Labour would back it. Not a lot of sympathy for "rich" expats who've retired abroad from the general UK population.
  12. No soapies in the UK (that I know of) but a Thai "massage" will set you back about £50 for an hour.
  13. To be fair, bar girls and massage workers have to work very long hours and sometimes have to do unpleasant things to make money! I would expect them to make more than a Brit on a State pension!
  14. Unless they do find evidence and shut the place down which also happens.
  15. Walking Street is one street in Thailand - no one has said there is no prostitution in Thailand.
  16. Where is this "proof" you mention? Prostitution is and always has been part of Thai culture. Many Thai males lose their virginity to prostitutes.
  17. No sarcasm. I'm a Labour voter and would much prefer Mayor Khan to any Tory, especially after Boris. He's a popular figure in London with the majority. Personally, I hanker after the days of Red Ken and the GLC.
  18. Good grief I doubt the Scots or Welsh would be celebrating an English saint (even if he was never English!).
  19. Correct, but these guys were demonstrably thuggish. I would think those with nationalistic views are happy to be labelled 'right-wing', and wouldn't find the label offensive. I may be wrong.
