  1. Thatcher? God forbid! Next, you'll be suggest we should be led by Farage!
  2. I just completed this quiz. My Score 70/100 My Time 62 seconds
  3. It's a "world class tourist resort", that's what they're playing at.
  4. I'm inclined to agree, although the rot set in a long time ago and GB's insignificance was exemplified by Brexit.
  5. Your choice. It depends on how old your children are! A smartphone or a tablet is pretty essential these days and I don't need the nanny state to tell me what my child can/cannot do. In any case, the new law is not about smartphones, it's about joining social media sites like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and X/Twitter.
  6. I've been teaching TEFL in Thailand for nearly 20 years, also after completing a CELTA. Not sure why you went down the kindergarten route, as the CELTA course is specifically for teaching English to adults. There are lots of language school opportunities in Bangkok and in other provinces where you can focus on teaching adults (sometimes older teenagers) rather than young children. You won't earn much to start, although my starting salary back in 2005 was 34,000 baht a month, which is what some places seem to be paying now. The higher quality language institutes (British Council, AUA, ECC, Wall Street, New Cambridge) will start you on a much higher rate.
  7. Wow, shock horror. A newly elected government is making unpopular decisions to rectify the shambles created by the previous 14 years of misrule and the Tory press do what they're best at. I suspect Starmer and the government couldn't give a 'fig'. In 3 years, if the economy hasn't been turned around, they might. But even then the opposition is hopeless and hopelessly divided, so they are more than likely to get another term.
  8. "The far Left"? If the "ladies" on the View are "far left", what does that make Jeremy Corbyn?
  9. Seems like there was a lot of panic about nothing!
  10. I think it's about 40% of London's population that migrated there from outside the UK.
  11. As @BrandonJT says, you'll need to get all the paperwork from your Employer, including legalised marriage and birth certificates. However, if you're only staying in Thailand for 3 months, why don't they just get tourist visas?
  12. Why? Does it have to be ticked?
  13. They did indeed. A shameful mistake that cost them dearly. Won't be repeated!
  14. I can't see the Tories going in to an alliance with Farage and Reform. It would make sense, but I think the Tories want unadulterated power. There's no way the Lib Dems and Greens would join an alliance with the Right!
  15. Good grief, she's milking this. What an odious woman.
  16. Yes, politics is tribal. All the parties are the same. Unless there is proportional representation (which there should be), I don't see where Labour's opposition is going to come from. I'd wager 99.99% of those who signed the 'silly' petition are Reform / Conservative voters or bots. But unless they form some kind of alliance I can't see them beating Labour in 2028/9, which is when the next election will be held.
  17. If their policies prove to be carnage they will be voted out at the next election. That's how it works. However, the short-term pain being felt by some now will hopefully be in the dim & distant past, if they successfully turn the economy around. I seem to remember Thatcher was hugely unpopular in her first few years (rightly so) but she managed to win two more terms. Hopefully, Starmer won't need a Falklands war though...
  18. And I'm sure the huge Labour majority in parliament will respond accordingly!
  19. Not at all. Many people expressed their dissatisfaction with the Tories, as was their right. Protest and campaign all you like, and win the next election! However, a petition is rather silly.
  20. And the current government has at least 4 more years in office.
  21. I'm a Labour supporter, but regrettably I see very little sign of this.
  22. People seem to forget we recently had a buffoon like Boris Johnson and then a 'lettuce' running the country! The people will get a chance to vote out Labour in 2028/9. I'm willing to bet, they'll get another term.
