  1. Nonsense. The vast majority of teachers in Thailand teach English as a Foreign Language. They may need a degree for the work permit and they should have a decent TEFL qualification like a CELTA or Trinity, but nothing else. It's no different to TEFL work in most countries, including Europe/UK and other Asian countries.
  2. Not illegal itself, regulated. https://www.sexwork.com/Thailand/legal.html

  5. And ironically, some stuck-up Thais consider their Chinese heritage somehow makes them superior to the more indigenous natives. You should hear how some Thais talk about Laotians!
  6. It looks great, although is not nearly as much fun these days as it used to be. Definitely worth a visit though.
  7. Well done! Thought my time was unbeatable!
  8. nonce /näns/ adjective (of a word or expression) coined for or used on one occasion. "a nonce usage"
  9. That was only for Walking Street in Pattaya, not the whole country. In any case, they were referring to streetwalkers and premises acting as brothels - both illegal. Walking Street is famous for gogo bars which operate perfectly legally, as long as they don't also operate as brothels. There is nothing illegal about barfining a gogo dancer or bargirl/boy and taking her/him to your hotel or home. In fact that is how the legislation that regulates this type 'entertainment' works - it even stipulates employees should be indentifiable by numbers.
  10. Here we go again 🙄. Can you produce any evidence that the government has ever stated that there is "no prostitution in Thailand"? I doubt it, as prostitution is regulated under Thai law!!
  11. Those little Nestle cans of coffee are some of the most popular offerings to monks.
  12. Starmer knows he has to take tough decisions , be unpopular and not pander to either wing of his party. As @Chomper Higgot says, there's a long time until the next election. More power to him.
  13. Perhaps that's why this Forum is called the 'Political soapbox'! What do you expect? 🙄
  14. I just completed this quiz. My Score 80/100 My Time 70 seconds
  15. It would have been a lot more "tragic" if they had killed another driver/s.
  16. Yes, I suspect different brokers give different advice on different insurers for different policies for different people!
  17. If service is included, you don't need to leave a tip. If service is bad, refuse to pay the charge and see how you get on! VAT is just part of life!
  18. Nope. I backed Starmer and he won, and I'm still posting pro-Labour posts. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿☮️
  19. I've been trying to open a savings account for my 9-year-old son. He's British like me, and I was hoping as I've had an account with Bangkok Bank for 18 years, they'd let me open one for him. But our local branch said "No" - he has to be 18. Does anyone know a bank that might do this? Would I be better off trying in Pattaya or Bangkok?
  20. That's what I'm hoping. My broker has assured me I would be covered, but I'm hoping I never have to find out!
  21. Not as bad as Biden's, but he is certainly declining fast. Fortunately, it looks like he won't win the election in November. 🙏
  22. I just completed this quiz. My Score 60/100 My Time 72 seconds
  23. I declared that I was taking statins for cholesterol and medication for mild hypertension and got the medicines listed on the policy (WRLIfe). I'm assuming, possibly foolishly, that I'm covered!
  24. I just completed this quiz. My Score 80/100 My Time 46 seconds
