How would Thailand benefit if they force these people out? It would appear to be a country of law and order, which is exactly what it needs to become. Rules are rules. If someone can return to their country of citizenship, Thailand should enforce their immigration laws and make it so.
I'd be in favour of precisely the same in my country of citizenship. I'd oppose any amnesty due to covid for any foreigners there.
Marketing? No one cares. Tourists will still flock to Thailand again once they can. Great weather and beaches - Europeans and the Chinese love it. They'll come back.
In places like Pattaya our presence is vital at the moment. Many restaurants, pubs, massage parlors and shops depend on us. Solely. We help to keep these tourist places alive. The amnesty will be definitely prolonged. Sorry for disappointing you.

If you are on a tourist type visa and have not left within a month you are considered flotsam and best "cleared out". IMO Immigration will use this to reset things to ground zero and clear out all the flotsam. New people coming for up to one month are considered desirable tourists.
Reset things? The things were already reset from 40 million tourists to just thousands thanks to Covid. Are you sure they will want to reset it any further? And new people... there will be no new people for many months ahead.

I certainly hope that the 43% who indicated "Wait and hope for a further extension of the amnesty" actually meant "wait and hope, but if it has not happened by mid September, leave the country by the 26th" (an option not listed among the poll choices).
To simply remain here through the 26th hoping would be unwise in the extreme. Everyone should have a back up plan that prevents them being on overstay as of 27 September.
It is understandable that people might not want to make definitive plans to leave now, in case there is a further extension. But if I were in this situation I would try to book a refundable ticket now with departure on 25-26. As leaving it too late risks no seats being available.
End of amnesty does not mean an immediate overstay. There will be some sort of ‘grace period’ before that for sure.

Of course if she just wants a ''quickie'' with one of the local guy, it's not a problem at all
Opposite to what these girls usually tell us, they actually prefer to have sex with other Thais. Sex with foreigners is, most of the time, about money for them, some kind of obligation they have to go through from time to time. Meanwhile, sex with their own is about feelings, romance, etc. It takes them not more than one hour scrolling through Facebook to find a sex partner these days. Any time, any place. If only all those ‘pussy-altruist’ farangs knew how much action happens behind their naive backs...
Ironically, it is farang’s money which allows those Isaan peasants to have a lot of time for the romantic element in their life, which comes instead of working in the rice field 24/7.
The thrills of giving, yeah!- 2

They could perhaps give to the taxman instead by buying acohol and cigarettes just to be sure they do not miss out on thrills of giving.
You keep deluding yourself, imho. Thrills of giving? Not really. An illusion of ‘love’ and ‘bonding’ - this is what you buy with your money. There are actually much better candidates for monetary help than those young and healthy Isaan girls and their lazy families. In reality, it is all about emotional loneliness and... vagina.

Can imagine nobody less fortunate than those transferring thousands of dollars to some morally challenged rural girls from Isaan. Just to keep their illusions alive.

I think it does matter. Many farangs think they buy the Thai girls’ loyalty with those money transfers. Nothing can be further from the truth.

One of the main misconceptions that I meet among farangs in their relationships with Isaan girls is that if they (women) do cheat, then this can only happen in Pattaya or Bangkok bars with another farang involved. But if she lives in her village , then she cannot cheat, and with whom? Awful stupidity. Isaan women cheat on foreigners with other Thais, first of all. And money is almost never involved then. Failure to understand this fact reveals people who are inexperienced, if not at all dumb, incapable of any kind of self-reflection.
In the case of any farang who maintains a financial connection with the Isaan woman without seeing her for months - I am ready, without any hesitation, to make a bet with them that their darling is cheating on them. I estimate the likelihood of me being right at 95%, so I am ready to risk any amount.- 3

Wait and hope for a further extension of the amnesty
Fools???? or just wishful thinkers
The case is that for years (many many years) the only viable option for many long stayers in Thailand was to visit a neighboring country for a 3 month tourist visa. This is impossible to do now. And all the other options are quite problematic and almost non-existent. So the amnesty has become the only way for us (people under 50, not married to Thai) to stay in Thailand. It is not a wishful thinking it is all we basically have to hope for at the moment.

AS its possible for many of us to fly home, Embassys will nor provide those letters .
The reason why an amnesty was given last time was to prevent people attending immigration offices and spreading the virus . Schools , public transport and shops were closed down to prevent the spread of the virus , now that these have all opened up again, there is no reason to keep immigration offices closed and people who are still stranded in Thailand can get a letter from their Embassy and go to I.O and get an extension
On the other hand, who needs the Immigration when the country’s borders are closed for 6 months and will be closed even longer? And what might be their function at the moment? To squeeze out of the country the only tourists Thailand currently have? This is why the government has overridden the Immigration’s initiatives for three consecutive times. Hope they will do it again in September.

BS. It's well written and contains the core point of getting tourism back on track: Thailand is [manageably] corvid free, now number one since NZ got a setback last week. And since Thailand is a popular tourism mecca (unlike Fiji, another corvid free destination), it promises to be a destination of choice for the world's pent up retirees, with unaffected incomes, waiting with baited breath to once again travel. The only thing needed is to preclude 14 day quarantines upon arrival -- a definite show stopper. Thus, once we get a an effective, near instantaneous test that can be administered prior to entering the jetway, well, why can't we be positive about Thailand's tourism future....?
Don’t you think that being Covid-free goes hand in hand with keeping the borders firmly closed?

Both of you, please leave the country by the end of September. And leave me alone. I am going nowhere.

If there is any life in places like Pattaya at the moment - it is thanks to those foreigners on amnesty who are still in Thailand. Kick this group out and destroy finally any business the Thai people in the touristic places might still have. Who is more important for Thailand? These people or some corrupted Immigration staff?

I don’t really care about what some people advise us (those on tourists and exempt visas) in this thread. I know that another amnesty is still possible. And I am also 100% sure that even if the amnesty is not prolonged - we will still be given enough time to leave the country by somewhere in the mid to end of October. No need to panic. Relax and enjoy your time in Thailand.

The parasitic men who made a wrong bet on a tourism-related prostitution. The last group of the population who will deserve my personal compassion.
P.S. We are talking here about those involved in the Pattaya and Phuket nightlife. Not about transgender scientists, highly skilled engineers and other Nobel prize winners.

Walking street was all about agogos. Will the Thai males visit any and pay 5000 for a sex with the Isaan ‘beauties’? And those 200 baht lady drinks? Will they like the concept?

Its the exact same amnesty as the last one, immigration or who ever is just trying to put a spin on it.
Nothing is different between this one or the last one.
Any way its not up to immigration to decide what happens, its down to the government.
Correct.

but something has changed - gov has implied, in the first line no less, extend or leave by 26th. this is not an amnesty extension it's a grace period. everyone has 2 months to get their immigration affairs in order.
so if i follow your logic, something ELSE would need to change in order for them to drop the grace period or extend it. my money would be on a second thai wave being the only thing to change their stance (internationally it would be seen as cruel to force people through airports under this circumstance) anything else would be seen as "they were advised months ago"
The "grace period" was a wishful thinking by some high Immigration officer right before the amnesty was granted. We are in "amnesty" right now. In the worst case scenario, we will be given more time to leave after 26.09. Like 2 weeks or even more.

Apply simple logic. Will something change drastically until 26 of September regarding Covid issues? Most probably NOT. Expect the amnesty prolonged.

Why not to advertise Thailand for the long stayers (6 months+) ? This Is the only group of tourists which may agree on 2 weeks quarantine. Many of them can choose Thailand as a Covid free place. Thailand should forget about short time tourism for a long time. Those buses full of Chinese - these are the things of the past.
