I edited this as I have done a bit of research and it appears TUI is in big trouble.

May 11th - Announced measures to curb COVID-19 transmission when things get back to normal

    May 12th - No travel until 12th June 2020

    May 12th - Announced 8000 job cuts

May 15th - Critical travel advice issued including refund credits with bonus incentive or cash refund

May 16th - TUI announce doctor's notes required for refunds

May 18th - Thai hoteliers appeal for help after being stiffed

I wouldn't hold my breath for payment if I was a Thai hotelier. It's going to get very interesting how bad this crisis is going to be for the Thai tourism industry. Personally I think everyone is underestimating the situation... this is like an apocalypse for tourism and that is 20% or so of Thai GDP.

It is going to be as bad as only possible.
p.s. I wonder if the billion bahts donations made by Western lovers to their Thai gfs are somehow included in those 20% number. If not - then the real number should be much higher.

all of this <deleted> is becoming so mind numbing. social distancing and all that goes along with it is the biggest joke ever played out on humans.

Similar to a new regulation of 250 passengers per BTS train. So you will have a social distancing inside the train and a total lack of one on the stations with the crowds of hundreds waiting for the next train.

  3. Invite that Warin guy for the final testing. Tell him to bring some holy water - should definitely help.

"Prayut has stated publicly that he consults a fortune teller, Warin Buawiratlert, regularly. He said there was no harm in seeking advice. When suffering from fever and aches early in his premiership, he blamed his ills on spells cast by his political enemies and combated the malady with holy water." Wikipedia

    Why?

Do you have a gay lover and do you believe that ALL farangs have, or should have, a gay lover?

That is my assumption. Thai ladyboys are savages. So we have a lonely and money poor foreigner. Financial motives should be excluded then. What is left is the heart affair. Probably the guy has decided to change his old LB friend for a new one. Turned out to be a fatal mistake.

Agreed. If Pattaya cleans up its act and invest in clean beaches, clean streets, public transportation and become a first world city, it may have a chance to become a tourist spot. But if it insists to stay mostly as a sex city, you will see more rental discounts first and more vacant condos to a point of a town of ghost buildings. In the light of covid, even after a vaccine is found, sex cities have no future IMO.

I'd be too scared to be with someone if I don't know how many guys she has kissed, fondled or had unprotected sex with, as long as the mutation of this virus is hanging over our head like "the sword of Damocles", a mythical metaphor representing an imminent and ever-present danger.

God save us from Pattaya becoming another first world city. We have enough of them and I prefer this naughty sex city to any of those hugely overpriced and boring places.

Of course there is no link because the definition of tourist to the immigration officer depends on which side of the bed he slept on or the phase that the moon was in last night.

The point I was trying to make was that someone with a dodgy tourist visa history will not convince the IO otherwise by waving a copy of the Oxford English dictionary around.

As I wrote in the removed message - there was not a single time when I needed to explain my tourist status to the Thai immigration or at the embassy. It is only here on TV I am constantly reminded by the guys on retirement and marriage visas that since I am a (dodgy!) tourist I should not stay in TH for ‘too long’. And this is when dictionary definitions might help.

    What is next?

    - VOA suspension until October

    - Visa exempt suspension

    - The end of multiple non O/B and visa runs every 3 months.

    - Mandatory insurance for every foreigner travelling into the Kingdom for extended periods of time (I am referring to non O extensions, they are actually foreign pensioneers staying in Thailand on a temporary extesion of stay)

    - more TM's, phone tracking and so on.

For the peace of the nation.

    Sounds quite realistic to me.

When I click on the Cambridge dictionary, this is what I get :-

"someone who visits a place for pleasure and does not live there"

    https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/learner-english/tourist

    And this is my link:

    https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/tourist

-someone who visits a place for pleasure and interest, usually while on holiday

    Also:

    Collins:

A tourist is a person who is visiting a place for pleasure and interest, especially when they are on holiday.

    Merriam - Webster:

one that makes a tour for pleasure or culture

If the borders are not open by August then they might extend the current "amnesty" IMO the will open before August unless Laos and Cambodia have a high infection rate then.

This is an interesting moment. While the Thais may be somehow sure about their own numbers (or at least pretend that they do) - why should they believe the Cambodian or Lao numbers (especially with a clear knowledge that their own numbers are fake) ? The trust element will be quite low between the countries in the near future. I personally don’t see the borders fully open any time soon.
