It is not about bars in Pattaya getting busted. What about 100 billion dollar tourist money which will not be injected into Thai economy this year? Do you think it will go unnoticed?

The views of posters living in western expat enclaves such as Pattaya will argue that the entire country is ready for economic collapse, just because the beer bars, ago go's and ladies of Beach Road are not doing business.
Listening to the views of middle class Thais' and others who live in Bangkok may actually be a useful measure, simply because they don't have an axe to grind!
It's like posters views on the strength of the Baht, those that are getting squeezed. Those on fixed income who have seen their incomes fall tell us that a strong Baht is bad for exports and the economy will be decimated unless the currency is weakened....you rarely hear that story from expats who are earning Baht or who have Baht assets.
Consider the source.
One day you have 40 mln visitors per year and then you have 0. You don’t need to consider any source to understand that this will represent a huge hit to the economy.

I don't know, man. If these numbers reflect the truth, do you folks think it is due to increased xenophobia or due to sincere health worries?!
Xenophobia and fear go hand in hand

Looks like they prepare the ground to expel the rest of us from the country. Any foreigner is dangerous by definition now.

Good luck with that, there's an immigration 'snitchline' that pays rewards.
If you so much as check into a hotel for even one night where they see your password then expect an early morning raid the following day.
The above sounds a little far fetched but it's already happened and was reported here on this forum.
Good luck!
I will ask my GF to rent an apartment for me in her name.

According to this article, 2/3 of tourism businesses don’t need tourists to survive. Cool.

With the number of tourist arrivals being solid 0 for several months - our importance for the Thai tourism industry is indeed on the highest point ever.

The problem is they don't know what's going on and it's out of their control.
Until Malaysia, Cambodia, Loa and Myanmar decide to open their borders to Thailand their hands are somewhat tied and options are limited.
They have two options in my opinion.
1. Extend the amnesty.
2. Make a temporary amendment to the regulations, allowing those on the current amnesty to apply for legitimate 30 day extensions, which will produce revenue, but overcrowded Immigration offices once again.
My biggest fear regarding the second option is that it will come together with the additional requirements produced by each and every local immigration office. This is when the chaos of March 2020 will repeat itself.

If only this decision would be up to Immigration - I don’t doubt they would squeeze us all out of the country with the unrealistic requirements of all kinds. Hope some authority above the Immigration will intervene again with a much better solution for us and for the country.

I have a choice between staying in Thailand, where the CV is apparently not spreading and no one's dying from it, vs. returning to the U.S. where the virus is spreading like wildfire in many areas, 130,000+ are dead already, and the new CV deaths are running about 600 day.
Frankly, I'm quite happy and would prefer to stay in Thailand -- if this is what you call "going down the drain."
It is a majority of the Thai population who will go down the drain, not you personally. But you don’t really care, I know.

But the nation has won a battle against Covid19. Who cares about the worst economic crisis in the history of the country? Stay home, wear mask, use hand sanitizer and everything will be OK!

40 mln private jets per year should definitely suffice.

This is Asia. You must wear mask.

Junk food is a powerful drug. People eat it for fun. It is a much more complicated issue than many would like to believe.

I prepare myself for the worst. 2 weeks to leave the country without any viable option to return sounds very realistic at the moment.

Have the flights really resumed out of Thailand?

Cosmic barfines and girls’ prices. X5 compared to Soi 6 and other places.

Proximity is the most important factor when it comes to sea-view apartments. At some distance it becomes quite useless and I would not recommend to pay any additional money for it.

Easier said than done. The fact is tourism an important element of the Thai economy which is getting destroyed right now.
