Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
Bkk Brian replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
Interesting, it is possible to assume that Patriot air defense missile was involved in recent string of air crashes in the Bryansk region. Defense officials and congressional staffers told CNN that Ukrainian troops have in recent weeks used the US-made Patriot air defense system to shoot down at least one faraway Russian fighter jet. The Russian jets have largely been staying behind Russian defensive lines, making them difficult for Ukraine to target with shorter-range systems like NASAMs. The Russian planes the Patriot targeted were on a bombing run to fire missiles against Ukrainian targets, US officials said, which Russia has been doing throughout the past year to maximize civilian casualties. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/18/politics/us-allies-f-16-jets-ukraine/index.html -
Perhaps you need to read my post again then. The juries are picked based on representing a cross section of the community. Regardless of race, gender, national origin, age, or political affiliation. That's plain enough right? Its also the law. So if you believe in this system then the same should also be applied to the judges, that's what the OP study is advocating. https://www.uscourts.gov/services-forms/jury-service/learn-about-jury-service "Judicial diversity is key to ensuring the legitimacy and efficacy of our court system. A diverse bench leads to increased public confidence in the courts and richer judicial deliberations. However, many state supreme court benches fail to reflect the diversity of the populations they serve." Black, Latino, Asian American, Native American and multiracial people make up 40% of the US population. So surely in those 18 states where it is all white judges there should be some attempt at diversity to reflect what that particular state is. This is what I am saying, its not like there is a shortage of excellent qualified people from those backgrounds.

Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital

Good news, the damage was not serious but worrying that they managed to get its location for the strike. US officials say damage to Patriot missile defense system was minimal following Russian attack near Kyiv The damage to a Patriot air defense system following a Russian missile attack near Kyiv on Tuesday morning is minimal, three US officials tell CNN, with one official describing it as “minor” damage. The US sent inspectors to examine the system on Tuesday after being told by Ukrainian forces that the system appeared to have been damaged, one official said. The system itself is still operational, the officials said, and the radar component of the Patriot, one of its most important elements, was not damaged. US officials do not believe the Patriot will need to be removed from the battlefield for repairs. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/16/politics/patriot-missile-damage-ukraine/index.html -
Ok, so in US jury selection the selection process helps to make sure that jurors represent a cross section of the community, without regard to race, gender, national origin, age, or political affiliation. So what does the community of the US consist of? Black, Latino, Asian American, Native American and multiracial people make up 40% of the US population. So when you have 18 states, where all state supreme court justices were White, that is clearly not representative of the community.

Care to provide a link to disprove this claim from the study? "Even when murders in the largest cities in red states are removed, overall murder rates in Trump-voting states were 12% higher than Biden-voting states across this 21-year period and were higher in 18 of the 21 years observed." -

US assessing potential damage of Patriot missile defense system following Russian attack near Kyiv A US-made Patriot air defense system was likely damaged, but not destroyed, as the result of a Russian missile barrage in and around Kyiv early Tuesday morning local time, a US official tells CNN. The US is still assessing to what degree the system was damaged, the official said. That will determine whether the system needs to be pulled back entirely or simply repaired on the spot by Ukrainians forces. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/16/politics/patriot-missile-damage-ukraine/index.html -

Isn't that the case with just about every city, not just in the US but in the world, there are area's that its probably best not to travel to. You obviously weren't one of the 56 million tourists who did visit New York in 2022. Lots of people visit New York, S.F and L.A. as tourists. -
“I'm not an alcoholic. I'm a functioning — I probably function more effectively than 90 percent of the population.”................... To the case however: New: Rudy Giuliani hit with stomach-churning sexual abuse claims in $10M+ assault, civil rights, labor, contract suit by fmr assoc Noelle Dunphy. She's got recordings of (pretty vile) statements and had 23,000 Rudy emails, she says, bc worked for him but he refused to pay her. The lawsuit cites multiple audio recordings, including Giuliani referring to his accuser as his “daughter” in a sexual context. Subjecting her to sexual assault and harassment throughout her employment, forcing her to engage in “violent sex” and attend video conferences naked and work in shorts he bought printed with an American flag. Other bombshell accusations include Giuliani trying to force Dunphy to lie to FBI agents seeking to question her about what she had witnessed while working for him. Among Giuliani’s 23K emails Dunphy had access to were from Trump’s kids, Jared Kushner, former FBI director Louis Freeh, various Trump aides, secretaries of state, attorneys general, and Ukrainian officials, per the suit, which accuses Giuliani of using technology recklessly. In *Feb. 2019*, Giuliani had "voter fraud" claim planned if Donald Trump lost the election, according to the complaint. "Giuliani told Ms. Dunphy that Trump’s team would claim that there was 'voter fraud' and that Trump had actually won the election." Giuliani told alleged victim he was "SELLING PARDONS" for $2,000,000 each "which he and Trump would split" AND SHE HAS RECORDINGS AND EMAILS Noelle Dunphy is seeking at least $10 million in damages for the cause she claims to have suffered at the hands of the former Mayor. The former employee said she made numerous audio recordings of Giuliani including some in which she says he can be heard making sexual comments, demanding sex and making sexist, racist, and antisemitic remarks. The lawsuit says: "Giuliani became drunk, and fantasized about visiting a hotel with Ms Dunphy, bizarrely saying during a recorded conversation that he would tell the doorman to wait outside with the luggage so that ‘we do it on the floor in the living room … we don’t even make it to the bedroom. All the clothes come off,’ and telling the doorman, ‘I need time alone with my girlfriend, with my daughter. With my little girl. https://www.express.co.uk/news/us/1770605/Rudy-Giuliani-sexual-assault-employee-trump-dxus

She's not saying that though, she's dodging the issue by saying they've not got enough votes to pass it anyway. She noted the political realities of passing federal legislation through Congress: "In order to do a national standard, you’d have to have a majority of the House, 60 Senate votes and a president. We haven’t had 60 pro-life senators in 100 years.

You missed this, don't worry I don't cast accusations on how smart or not you are. You did a critical analysis......really....lol So tell me what did you analysis from this, just one of over a dozen links provided in the article................... The murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Donald Trump has exceeded the murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Joe Biden in every year from 2000 to 2020. Over this 21-year span, this Red State murder gap has steadily widened from a low of 9% more per capita red state murders in 2003 and 2004 to 44% more per capita red state murders in 2019, before settling back to 43% in 2020. Altogether, the per capita Red State murder rate was 23% higher than the Blue State murder rate when all 21 years were combined. https://www.thirdway.org/report/the-two-decade-red-state-murder-problem -

Then there's the facts that Republicans prefer to ignore. From the OP: Ironically, given the accusation from the right that Democrats are too soft on crime, it appears to be traditionally “red states” that have the more serious crime problem. “The murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Donald Trump has exceeded the murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Joe Biden in every year from 2000 to 2020,” Third Way, a US thinktank, reported in January. Third Way also found that in 2020 murder rates “were 40% higher in Trump-voting states than Biden-voting states”. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/may/14/republican-tough-on-crime-us-elections-2010 -
Actually it was a speech to the 2023 graduating class at Howard University, the same University that Kamala Harris attended. Its a pity Fox cut and edited the video, because it was a great speech for those that read it all rather then take such a small snippet for their audience to jump on. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2023/05/13/remarks-by-president-biden-at-the-howard-university-class-of-2023-commencement-address/ I won't bother cherry picking quotes from it..............

Just catching up on some info on this tragic event: Jordan had a number of interventions from mental health with the last one being in Feb of this year where to avoid prison the judge told him go from court to live at a treatment facility in the Bronx, and stay clean for 15 months. In return, his felony conviction would be reduced. The prosecutor also agreed. "Mary Weisgerber, a prosecutor, said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to turn things around, and we’re glad to give it to you,” He lasted just 13 days before leaving the center. After that he had various interactions with out reach workers but they are not notified of arrest warrants. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/07/nyregion/jordan-neely-daniel-penny-nyc-subway.html In the video of the struggle and strangle hold another passenger can be heard saying: “You don’t have to catch a murder charge,” he said. “You got a hell of a chokehold, man.” https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/11/nyregion/daniel-penny-charges-jordan-neely-subway-death.html
