Decisions, decisions, where to stay in retirement?
Randy99 replied to simon43's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I retired, came to Thailand, bought a 250cc Honda mb and have not really stopped touring on it for 5 years. I stop in nice places here and there, usually rural and hang out for a month or two, make a few friends and move on. I find it very satisfying. Have a rented bedroom in Phan Thong as my home base to keep immigration happy. -
Getting a 5 year motorbike license requirements
Randy99 replied to berro's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
I just read within the last few days that renewals will be done online soon. Unfortunately the article didn't have a implementation date. -
Use WattsApp, LINE etc. They're free and many banks have LINE accounts now although they don't advertise that fact.

A long shot but the functioning of a barometer is the same as an aircraft altimeter, except that the altimeter has a much greater pressure range. A decent aircraft instrument repair shop should be able to at least diagnose the problem for you. Not sure if there are any such shops in Thailand that will do that kind of outside work due to the lack of general (light) aviation Thai Airways undoubtedly has a instrument shop but doubtful that they would accept your project. You might search Singapore on the net for a shop, otherwise Europe or Australia have many shops. Best of luck, Randizzle

Vietnam Tourist Visa - why not easier?
Randy99 replied to ronnie50's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Obtained a e-visa for Vietnam recently. Applied online two weeks before departure. My application was rejected 5 times for me not specifying where I'd be staying. I did provide that information. Couldn't understand the issue so I just kept sending it back unchanged. Finally, 4 hours before before departure time it arrived. We barely made the flight. Don't know what the grudge is against Canadians. Loved Vietnam by the way. -
Thai Tourism Grapples with Declining Chinese Visitors
Randy99 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Twice in the last year I've seen a China lady squatting on the Soi in broad daylight taking a piss. Hope they holiday somewhere like India where pissing anywhere is accepted. Yuck! -
One more option for moving large cash sums that I've never seen mentioned here is Bangkok Bank. Online banking offers to transfer up to 2 million baht via Swift or Prompt Pay. There is a fee, about 400B if I recall.

Mail / Postal service, domestic and international mail from Bangkok.

I'm having difficulty getting outbound mail delivered to Canada. Sent 2 first class airmail letters almost a month ago. Neither has arrived. Mind you it could be Canada Post is the problem. -
Tourist’s Hands Bitten Off by Shark in Photo Stunt Gone Wrong!
Randy99 replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Bull sharks are among the most aggressive but are not hard to identify because of their bull head. Too bad she wasn't aware. Poor lady. One in a billion chances of that happening. -
Insurance company only want to pay 50% of the claim
Randy99 replied to advancebooking's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Suck it up. All insurance companies pay 50% of what they owe. This is particularly true healthcare insurers. Ultimately your only recourse is to sue in court but don't hold your breath. You are most likely to spend good money on a lawyer and loose in court. Rigged game. -
Only used an agent once. Went there based on a recommendation from a reply on this forum. Got ripped off for 7,000 Baht. Didn't see it coming before I was preyed upon as the scheme was elaborate. Live and learn.

Phaya Thai hospital in Si Racha has been my worst nightmare. Had two, yes 2 stiches removed there. In attendance for this highly dangerous and life saving procedure were a Plastic Surgeon and two nurses. It took all of two minutes, if that. They charged an obscene amount. Had an operation there too. Insurance only paid half because of what they called inflated prices and un-necessary procedures. Never going back!

It's my opinion that there are no fair and honest vendors in the phone business at Tuc Com. I learned my lesson buying a new phone at one of the alleged Samsung phone dealers. Got scammed quite badly.

Where To Buy Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey In Thailand
Randy99 replied to sangtip2's topic in General Topics
No. I've looked in duty free in a dozen or so airport terminals. None of the vendors had it. Most never heard of it. Same with Drambui for my Rusty Nails. Uggg -
I was just quoted $25,000 Cdn funds to remove a kidney stone at a hospital in Sri Racha. That was the minimum price. The private health sector in Thailand is ridiculous. Thieves, all of them in my opinion.

Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats

If they enact this tax, I'm gone! -
British yoga teacher stranded in Bangkok airport over passport tear
Randy99 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
My pp got soaked and the ink stamps ran plus some water got under the plastic film on the identity page which blurred the photo. Canadian embassy in Bkk said it was fine. I had it replaced regardless. -

My son is coming to visit from Canada. We're planning to spend a couple of weeks at Mae Rumphueng Beach, just down the road a bit from Rayong. Does anyone know if there is a scheduled bus running between the airport and Rayong? Thanks in advance

Refused exit with multiple entry with non O
Randy99 replied to kidneyw's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had exactly the same issue at the same place about 8 months ago. Refused exit. They told me their refusal was due to me having remained in Tland for 7 consecutive years and that I would have to fly out. I believe now that Immigration was in cahoots with one particular visa agent in Pattaya although I have no proof of that. Uggg. I raised my experience at that time on this forum and the overwhelming response was that no one had ever heard of such a rule. -
What is considered a "certified" copy/letter?
Randy99 replied to ubonrthai's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It is entirely up to the organization asking for certified copies to tell you precisely what constitutes "certified" So you need to go go back and ask them.
