  1. I know of some but they are in industrial areas so they cater to night workers also, but you are right. On the whole they are around the 6-10 mark. Sometimes there are none around at all and 711's are the most local shop.
  2. Context. Context is about alcohol sales hrs and the poster says that locals know where to buy booze 24/7. My reply is in response to this. Sorry you misunderstood. I'd like to know where. M&P shops aren't open 24/7 (there are expetions but few and far between). 711's etc only 10 hrs a day so where can alcohol be bought 24/7? Again it's the context in which the 10 hrs a day is being used. Obviously it is in reference to the alcohol sales hours as this is what this thread is about. Sure I could have said that 711's etc. only sell alcohol for 10 hrs a day but in the context this is not necessary.
  3. Article 112 took care of a lot of them. The army took care of some others. RIP.
  4. As I've been saying every time this comes up now it's only the 2-5 pm being mentioned. Seems they are going to ignore the midnight to 11 prohibition.
  5. This is an assumption. My closest M&P sells beer cheaper than my closest 711. Distance between the two is around 25m. Hard to say definitely there will be a financial hit to the M&P shops. Of course some M&P are more expensive.
  6. I did not say 711's are open for 10 hours per day. Nobody on earth is going to say this. Alcohol sales, however, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 12:00 am IS 10 hours.
  7. And some countries no alcohol sales at all but this has nothing to do with the insane and without justification 12:00 am - 11:00 am and 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm prohibition (only in 7's, BigC, some pubs and restaurants etc) here. It is THE most stupid thing ever. Friends back home think I'm pulling their leg when I mention it. I'd settle for a midnight - 5:00 am ban but no restrictions is probably the way to go.
  8. Feeling like a can of beer at 10:30 in the morning is a choice for most and has nothing to do with alcoholism (espicially if on a holiday). Not being able to do this at a 711 is insane.
  9. I'd like to know where. M&P shops aren't open 24/7 (there are expetions but few and far between). 711's etc only 10 hrs a day so where can alcohol be bought 24/7?
  10. So drop the 2-5 but leave midnight to 11 in place? Insane law that needs to be scrapped entirely. And what about the tax reduction?
  11. You are very much entitled to your opinions. As for me I'm off to buy some eggs, some rice and have a couple of beers at the M&P shop. Alcohol is bad you say but much of western society is based on the works of ..... Immanuel Kant was a real pissant Who was very rarely stable. Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar Who could think you under the table. David Hume could out-consume Schopenhauer and Hegel, And Wittgenstein was a beery swine Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel. There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya 'Bout the raising of the wrist. John Stuart Mill, of his own free will, On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill. Plato, they say, could stick it away Half a crate of whiskey every day. Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle, Hobbes was fond of his dram, And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart: 'I drink, therefore I am' Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed; A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed! https://mojim.com/usy143475x5x6.htm Thank you Monty Python.
  12. Nobody can be this stupid.
  13. The article you linked is about binge drinking in the morning NOT moderate consumption. What about if a person is a night shift worker. Plenty I've known (including myself) that will have a beer or two after the finish work in the MORNING. You are a entitled as much to your teatotalism as I am to treat my body the way I deem fit so again please keep your sanctimonious comments to yourself.
  14. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6804046/ "Wine is a popular alcoholic beverage that has been consumed for hundreds of years. Benefits from moderate alcohol consumption have been widely supported by the scientific literature and, in this line, red wine intake has been related to a lesser risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). Experimental studies and meta-analyses have mainly attributed this outcome to the presence in red wine of a great variety of polyphenolic compounds such as resveratrol, catechin, epicatechin, quercetin, and anthocyanin. Resveratrol is considered the most effective wine compound with respect to the prevention of CHD because of its antioxidant properties. The mechanisms responsible for its putative cardioprotective effects would include changes in lipid profiles, reduction of insulin resistance, and decrease in oxidative stress of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). The aim of this review is to summarize the accumulated evidence correlating moderate red wine consumption with prevention of CHD by focusing on the different mechanisms underlying this relationship. Furthermore, the chemistry of wine as well as chemical factors that influence the composition of the bioactive components of red wine are also discussed."
  15. Devilled kidneys on toast with a well chilled bottle of a good semillon desert wine on a warm morning is just a wonderful breakfast. Sok lek and lao khao for breakfast is insane but great. Not too much lao khao though. That <deleted> is dangerous. Actually the raw beef isn't the best idea either BUT it's a good way to start the day. (Songkran in the village)
  16. Your attempt at Cartisian logic is flawed. Apart from that I was showing, not cherry picking, an example to show that the label of alcoholic is not straightfoward as often used by those ignorant of the facts.
  17. Did you actually read the article past the headline? "Early morning binge-drinking sessions" https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/lifestyle/news-doctor-reveals-why-you-shouldn’t-drink-alcohol-in-morning-482956
  18. My uncle had a friend who was a brain surgeon. This person would have a shot of vodka every morning. That was it. One shot every morning and no more for the rest of the day. Couldn't function without it. This is one example of why the alcoholism/alcohol dependency debate is not as straight forward as many think.
  19. You have absolutely no right or knowledge to espouse this drivel. This paricular law I hate as does everyone else who is affected by it. It's complete nonsense. Stay away from Thailand? Please keep your sanctimononius comments to yourself. This law which has been around for decades was only really enforced by Thaksin in 2004. I hated it then and I've hated it for each of the 19 years I've been here. I work here and I have a family here so again please keep your illinformed comments to yourself.
  20. I certainly go to my closest M&P shop which is situated directly behind my closest 711. The beer is actually cheaper. Last Sat I went to buy some rice there and sit down and relax with a beer. Shop was shut (very rare) and it was 10:40 in the morning. Option of a relaxing beer was therefore impossible due to prohibition. Just complete and utter insanity with no reason whatsoever for it's existence.
  21. Damn I've done it again. Ridiculous. Happy now. Your argument is ridiculous and continues to be. It's not about managing shopping habits. What's this got to do with restaurants. Again your argument is flawed. If I want to buy ONE can of beer at a 711 I pop into at 10:30 in the morning or 3:30 in the afternoon I should be able to but cannot because of what as I stated is somre form of a bizaare prohibition. There really is no sane or logical argument for this nonsense.
  22. Your idea is somewhat correct but the hours you state are far from the reality of school hours. Apart from that students in school uniform will not purchase alcohol. Not that I've seen.
  23. This is a rediculous argument. This is about the availability of a product to adults not about alcoholism or alcohol dependancy. This is about some bizaare form of prohibition not about people's drinking habits.
