Thailand did an amazing job. I ask you all to compare the testing regime in Australia to Thailand. Remember from the beginning all experts (WHO) said the more you test, the more you find. TEST, TEST, TEST.

Who pays her salary? As for China's covid numbers and outbreaks, well the entire world (WHO) knows about CCP transperancy. Salmon? Absolutely pitiful. The CCP will do anything to divert attention away from what they have done to the world. I don't like the implications but the CCP should be completely isolated from the global community, brought to it's knees and overthrown in an uprising against a totalitarian, abhorrent bunch of complete .... . Governments dependent on CCP money should get together and find out ways to lesson their withdrawal pains.

Why would Songkran be so precious to farang or thai
You assume it will be a long weekend. Why? Apart from that Songkran is when families get together. It's the Thai New Year. Maybe this is why it's so "precious" as you say. Of course there is also a religious element to it and paying respect to your elders.
"Why would Songkran be so precious to farang or thai"
Sad man. Don't know how long you have been here or if you are here but really. You have just insulted every Thai person in the world by saying Songkran isn't a precious time for them. Well done.

Mine opposite to yours. For sure the rescheduled holidays should fall on a Fri or Monday. Think it's excellent idea. 3 long weekends over 3 months. Brilliant given current issues with Mr Covid
Basically it's not Songkran.

We will check to see if you have paid the appropriate amount to us. If you haven't please forward the money to our pockets immidiately.

What complete and utter nonsence from an obviously incompetent 'govt'. What if people have bought airline tickets already. I was close but decided against because I know I'm dealing with imbeciles who have bought their way to power. These idiots are saying near the weekend. Expect Thursdays and Tuesdays. Why do it at all? How can it be Songkran? I want to use a lot of words I would be banned for using.

I think you need to study up on what defines alcoholism and alcohol dependency. It's not black and white. Knew a brain surgeon who would have one shot of vodka every morning. That was it for the day. Had to have that shot though.

This is just a childish comment. Maybe you've been damaged somehow by alcohol but please not everyone that drinks alcohol is an alcoholic.

Is it free? Couldn't be bothered reading. Maybe if they did this 3 mths ago ok. But wait...no they wait until now because they know the numbers will be lower whereas before they would be higher. It's all about face which is all about lying. Thailand no.1 in covid fight. It's just so childish and puts the health of the population at risk. They're (Prayut) doing this now to find some more cases to justify unlimited extentions of the state of emergency. Beware the second wave.

Don't make light of this story. It's very serious. Impersonating a nurse is a capital offence in many countries.

NZ removed all restrictions this week because zero cases. Very low mask usage throughout.
Masks are one response in myriad responses to try and reduce spread but this doctor is simply trying to do a victory lap “I told you so”.
Almost no one went outside either. Everything was pretty well shut. Distancing was pushed hard. If everyone wore masks it may have been over sooner. Both countries also closed their borders very early ingnoring the WHO. Australia also was the first country to declare it a pandemic well before the WHO.

Actually the advice from all or most experts was 8 out of ten. Being that it seems to be lessening and NZ saying eradicated one would think the 9 out or 10 which as the R naught number would now be somewhat reduced.

"We need to find these patients so we can contain the spread of this disease as soon as possible," he said.
We all know that testing here was not very good so this is B*.
5 hours ago, webfact said:"If 90 per cent of people act in line with the government [health] measures, I can confirm that we will definitely win the battle against Covid-19."
This statement doesn't support the covid numbers. Indeed travelling home I saw plenty of restaurants open with plenty of people. Probably they could drink water or Coke etc but not alcohol because as has already been stated drinking alcohol encourages the spread of the virus. Sit eating with family or friends and drink water is ok. Do the same with a beer or two isn't. This is just the ultra-conservatives in power forcing people to their ways which has absolutely no scienfic basis backed by a state of emergency .

Indeed. What this shows is once again an absolute inabilty for the empty heads running the show to apply even a modicum of logic. It will have already been 1.5 months missed so what difference will another 4 days make. Go back to school Wed 1. Then school Thurs and Friday. Then Songkran. Then come back to school Fri 10. Then Sat and Sun off. Then back to school on the 13th. This is when schools should open. July the 13th. I dout this will happen because it would be the logical thing to do. TIT. Think of the logical solution, reverse it and that's what will happen.

There are loads of people who have been working throughout the pandemic, they would like a holiday.
The state of emergency everyone knows has nothing to do with health and has everything to do with almost unlimited powers in the hands of one person. The so-called PM.
This paper explains this very well and is worth a read. It's old and may have changed to give the gerneral even more power. Still you'll get the idea.

I think you'll find that they're not as utterly brainless, empty-headed and foolish as you claim, eating is a necessity for life, alcohol isn't.
I think you'll find you missed my point completely. People gather to eat. Thailand is a culture of social eating. Thailand is a culture of the extended family. Alcohol has nothing to do with people gathering to share meals although most cultured societies have no problem with having a drink and eating. Can't post anymore. Time to make my beer battered fish and chips. Alcohol in the form of beer IS a necessity for this.

Rubbish. Pure and simple and if you're drinking that much to lower your immunity then take supplements.

So does eating.

Tourism is an export and is 20% of all exports, tourism is 12% of GDP overall.
Not all of the 12% has been lost, remember, that's an annual figure. January saw about normal numbers, February and March saw a decrease, April saw zero. It might be that later in the year there is an upturn in the numbers, overall the decline in GDP for the year is estimated to be about 5.5%.
Pity January wasn't zero tourism and that CCP suck up of a PM closed the borders. Then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Just now, Trillian said:
Not really! The economy doesn't rely on tourism, tourism is only 12% of GDP. The country does rely on exports which is 60% of GDP.
As things stand today last months export figures were pretty good, surprisingly so, tourism numbers were however very low. But the underlying health of the Thai economy is pretty strong, low government borrowings (42% of GDP), high foreign currency reserves (USD 220 bill.) and low social care overheads. And this is a comparative issue, the Thai economy may not look great currently but the fundamentals mentioned previously are very strong and by comparison to some other larger western economies who are borrowing trillions of dollars, Thailand is in great shape.
I want a second opinion. Tourism is only 12% of GDP. Seems a lot. Military spending in USA as a percentage of GDP is around 3% and that's a lot. 12% loss you're saying isn't much.
-
Basically the Thai baht is strengthening because the economy is shot, the economy relies on tourism and there is no tourism, there's massive unemployment, exports are down, negative GDP and I think there's a lot more. How can this be a safe haven? How can the baht remain strong? Never did quite understand economics. Maybe someone can help me.

Still don't understand. Last wk it was 123, 125 cases tested positive out of those repatriated can't remember how many who tested positive. Are they just dribbling out the numbers at their own convenience? An aside. Let's see what happens in the USA in the nxt 14 days or so. Then we should have a good idea if this virus is petering out.

The daughter said that she reported the incident to police, but was told that the victim had to file the complaint in person.
So it's ok to stab someone if they don't make a complaint. A logical extension is to kill them so they can't make a complaint. Utter nonsence to once again protect privilage.
