Primarily it failed because they had a very weak candidate, a campaign that was heavily negative, she was the incumbent in an administration seen as moving the country in the wrong direction by around 70% of the nation, she was blamed for the border problem and was the VP of the administration blamed for high inflation/cost of living, the wedge politics backfired and people are sick of the radical progressive woke left policies. You are correct. Getting more votes in both the popular vote and the Electoral College isn't a basis to ignore the votes for Harris but what it is is a basis to declare victory. As for Harris her votes across the board are much worse than that of Biden's numbers in 2020.

Harris failed because people saw that she was simply an empty vessel of the Democratic elitist machine and saw through the propaganda pushed by the legacy media. She also failed because of the previous fours years of Biden's and her failures. She said she was going to "turn the page" but the problem was that page was still within the same book.
