    Isn't that a bit exaggerated?

I am sure I remember quarantine hotels for 2000 baht a night. Covid is just a disease and included in my standard health insurance. The insurance company promised me a letter confirming this.

No exaggeration. The hotel on booking.com for 2 weeks normally cost CAD$400-450. But he paid CAD$2,500 for the same hotel in the "quarantine" section. Same with the one way flight, you can get one for about CAD$1,500 premium economy, but it has to be a designated flight by the Embassy and now its CAD$2,500.

Did the Egyptian group bypass Immigration, a branch under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

It would seem that immigration under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be responsible to verify lodging, any covid 19 testing & quarantine stay and movement among the public, not the general airport employees.

Best case scenario would have been, presumably knowing the Egyptian filed flight plans in-out-in-out Thailand within a 24-48 hour period, to house the 30-person  mission at or near the airport, preferably in a Thai military secured facility. This mission was not a tourist group!

Thus responsibility for the mission's stay should fall to Ministry of Defense (Prayut) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The original flight plan was not to UTP is was to BKK and was altered in flight. The Egyptian Embassy made the transportation arrangements and hotel reservations to an unauthorized hotel.

Saw rooms here for $40 USD or about 1200 THB around December time frame.  Pretty amazing, doubt they'll be much to celebrate this year though.

Usually the cheapest room was about 3,500 baht and maybe 3,000- 2,600 per room for groups, depending on the size.

I think they want the hotel to get to at least 80% capacity before starting to raise the prices.

Sounds like a good kick start, but is it sustainable with heavy discounts?

Some guests had a free food and beverage coupon for 1,000 baht. I wonder how they got the coupon?? Super busy at the hotel on Saturday, should be the same on Sunday. The pool and restaurants were overflowing with guests.  This is probably because the special holidays next week.

Don't know if the discounts are sustainable. Don't know if they are making a profit but any contribution to reducing fixed costs/overhead is good.

Isn't the Government fronting up for the discounts  ...  and discounted flights?

Government discount program registration starts July 15, so no government fronting at this point.

  6. Are there any viable modem/routers available that are suitable replacements for a TMN cable provided modem and router, model HiInternet RL804W? This modem/router has fiber optic cable input into the internet, wifi, and 4 Ethernet ports, so a replacement would need fiber input.

I'd like to get something more modern, with dual band wifi, firewall, virus checking, VPN capable, etc.. Possibly just replace the modem part of the RL804W, and then use an ASUS AC1900, or something similar.

Also, would I need to extract the login password and id from the existing router and input it to the new one? Has anyone any experience in replacing ISP provided modems?

Just FYI, even Thai immigration, bless their inept heart, understands that many people cannot return to their countries because their borders are closed just like Thailand did to its citizens.

Try sugar in your coffee sweetheart.  It helps.

Most countries, even though the border is closed, allow its own citizens to enter.

What country is not allowing its own citizens back in?

  8. Pattaya Hard Rock Hotel opened today July 1, and some guests are already checked in. Looks like the bottom has been reached and business will just get better from here. Hard Rock cafe and Soul lounge are still closed, but the pizzeria and star diner are open, as well as the main bar. Rooms are heavily discounted!

  9. With the current economic downturn due to the lock-down and lack of tourists, are there many people unable to make car/truck payments? How long do banks, lenders and leasing companies wait after the payments stop before repossessing a vehicle? Where are the repossessed vehicle sold? Has anyone every bought a repo vehicle?

My favourite places haven't increased their prices in the last few years and certainly for alcohol the last increase I remember was a direct result of the government increasing the tax level. I guess they must have good landlords. Som.emay see this as an opportunity to lock into a good future deal if the Covid crisis results in a lot of vacant units, as you say better to rent than buy.

Don't forget another silent major expense. My friend had to close his bar after 4 entities asked for payment to avoid business disruptions. Just couldn't make enough to care for his wife and child.
