for the last 3 years we have had the effects of La Nina so what is the difference? El Niño and La Niña affect not only ocean temperatures, but also how much it rains on land. Depending on which cycle occurs (and when), this can mean either droughts or flooding. Typically, El Niño and its warm waters are associated with drought, while La Niña is linked to increased flooding.. La Niña and El Niño are opposite phases of a naturally occurring climate pattern known as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). The primary difference between La Niña and El Niño is the pattern of sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the tropical Pacific Ocean. During El Niño, SSTs in the central and eastern tropical Pacific become warmer than usual, while during La Niña, these same waters become colder than usual. In addition, El Niño tends to result in weaker trade winds and more rainfall over the central and eastern Pacific, while La Niña typically results in stronger trade winds and drier conditions over this region. These changes in SSTs and atmospheric conditions can have significant impacts on weather patterns around the globe, affecting everything from rainfall and temperature patterns to agricultural productivity, fisheries, and natural disasters such as floods and droughts.

When can we blame climate change? The tricky science of attribution
kwilco replied to Social Media's topic in The Green Forum
People need to get up to speed on climate change - doubters are so out of date it is unbelievable. The scientific consensus is that climate change is occurring and that human activities, particularly the emission of greenhouse gases, are contributing significantly to this phenomenon. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change, has concluded that it is extremely likely (95-100% probability) that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century. The consequences of climate change are numerous and include rising temperatures, sea level rise, more frequent and intense extreme weather events, and changes in precipitation patterns, among others. These impacts pose significant risks to human societies and natural ecosystems, with the potential for severe economic, social, and environmental consequences. While it may be challenging to reverse the effects of climate change entirely, taking actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and adopting sustainable land-use practices, can help to mitigate the severity of the problem. -

When can we blame climate change? The tricky science of attribution

Most of these sites do... whether it's "best food" "best city" or "most dangerous roads" whatever. I find it amusing that people don't know what a stew is, though.
-
How to spot a fool... someone who says "there have been fluctuations in climate before" - and thinks that climate scientists haven't considered that.
-
Yes...you are referring to the 5 Es of road safety. The "Safe System" or variations thereof, has been adopted without exception by countries with the best road safety records. The system has to be adopted 100 % or it won't work....you can't pick and choose . Enforcement Education Engineering Emergency Evaluation Without adopting all these, Thailand will NEVER have significant improvement in their road safety statistics.

It's. a realisation of a general shift in UK mentality.... being aware is not being obsessed. There isa shift away from critical thinking towards rightwing non-scientifically reasoned thought. THis is precisely the sort of thing that dominates people's thinking when it comes to understanding their insurance policies

It was that situation of mindset changing that led to Brexit. Similar to the Trump disease but without health care insurance. Before those travelling anywhere in the EU travellers could at least rely on local health care there... they now have to get a new less comprehensive card.... I doubt if many do. This arrogant and racist "I'm British and don't need any foreign help" is a mindset that can leave British people in a real mess when in Thailand they find they weren't quite as good a motorcyclist as they thought they were.

They used to be...Thailands situation re the Vienna convention of 1968 changes in 2020. It could be argued that an IDP wasn't needed before then but now I wouldn't want to argue the point. In Thailand many insurers don't cover you or your vehicle after 3 months if you don't have a Thai driving licence. People on long term visas are expected to have one too. Insurance is a contract, not some nebulous promise and however obscure some may think it is, there is usually a big clear section outlining what's not insured
-
That's not what you said... you were implying that comparison sites show this detail...they don't. I had to ring/ email my insurer directly to sort out finer details and even then they couldn't answer straight away either. My most recent query was about size of M/C the limit was 125cc. I also got extra excess waiver on my car hire. I was covered for a preexisting condition and and any delays due to Covid. Each trip is limited to so many days at a time, the length of which depends on your age. These are simple declarations and easily verified by insurance companies. Usually one "failure to declare" voids ALL cover, not just the one item. Some people don't even realise what countries they are covered for.

Why is it the British more than any other nationality? Is it because they have the NHS and don't consider health insurance as back home its already included in their deductions and benefits? Or is it because the country is going through a mental aberration? Like Brexit they don't think they are part of the rest of the world and simp,y think they don't need I surance or are too dim to work out what good cover is? ..or are they just the kind of people who irresponsibly engage in reckless or drunk activities?

Hardly think that is relevant, is it? I've been in Thailand longer than you....this is also irrelevant. That I have worked with medical staff has more relevance and that I have a good working knowledge of how hospitals are run may be more relevant Mostly it is down to how seriously you look at the situation and understand it.
