  1. Why not really commit and go with "a fund to be funded by funds collect from foreign visitors"?
  2. It's so ridiculously worded. "Those tourists pay nothing", like they aren't paying over the odds for everything, paying handsomely for every service they use, buying all sorts of souvenirs and other goods, paying prices the locals would rarely pay, and even charged extra I many places. He speaks as though they are getting away with something and must be held to account. Using up all the lovely sidewalks and pristine air that should be for the sole use of good Thai people! Pretty racist.
  3. I wonder if those "many people" also see most rules as being advisory only...
  4. And if the receptionist greets them with a friendly wai and says "if you don't like it then go home", their experience will be complete.
  5. No, no, no. You misunderstand. Foreigners are bad and Thais should hate them and take as much money from them as possible. This is the way!
  6. You know exactly how it would work. These things are foreigner taxes not tourist taxes. And, of course, Thais far wealthier than most foreigners would not have to pay...
  7. In case anyone is curious: hackneyed (adj.) "trite, so overused as to have become uninteresting," 1749, figurative use of past-participle adjective from hackney (v.) "use a horse for riding" (1570s), hence "make common by indiscriminate use" (1590s), from hackney (n.), and compare hack (n.2) in its specialized sense of "one who writes anything for hire." From 1769 as "kept for hire."
  8. I can understand how being stabbed to death might spoil their holiday. At least they have ignorance to claim in their defence. Perhaps the husband is OK with it, or perhaps he doesn't know. Apply caveats if you wish, but my statement still stands. Play stupid games, etc..
  9. I would say don't have sex with another man's wife, even if there are not such severe consequences.
  10. Do you actually know if the scheme was bonafide and effective, or was it just another scam by Pheu Thai?
  11. Well, she still bought her way into power. It's well established that her and her brother followed this route. How did the yellows manage to manufacture the rice pledging/vote buying scheme? How did they fool independent news services and academia? Curious to know how they managed this level of global control...
  12. Given the fact that Yingluck bought her way into power, that seems a little hypocritical.
  13. Literally just wrote the same thing. The original article is in Thai, so I'm wondering if there's a slight translation error.
  14. Sacked and let go are the same thing. Is this a translation issue? Can anyone explain what the original Thai is?
  15. How do you imagine Thai society functioning if just the police force was "made proper"? Presumably "fixing" the police would mean an end to any corruption that they facilitate. Do you think the Thai populace would be happy with that? How long would it take for people and businesses to adapt? Of particular interest would be how the Thai people would deal with suddenly facing the consequences of their actions and being lumbered with considerable fines, criminal records that leave them unable to work, and the loss of many people's driving licences almost instantly. ????
  16. True. The "don't get involved with other people's business" attitude so common in Thailand is not solely about being chilled out. It's to protect people from liability, blame and psychopaths.
  17. No, but what he is saying is "I don't think you would have any protection now, let alone after two, three or four doses". I do. He doesn't. ????‍♂️
  18. Obviously, yes, they have. I'm not sure how you don't know that. Have you simply avoided all news and media platforms for the past two years? What are you talking about? There were clinical trials before the vaccines were used and there is "real world data" that shows they are having a positive effect and protecting people from the covid viruses.
  19. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Vaccines have been shown to reduce the chance of catching the virus, reduce the symptoms and reduce the chance of dying. Surely that is self explaining that they work?
  20. The antiwhatevers reduce over time so, potentially, after a certain amount of time has elapsed since your last dose of vaccine, you might not have enough protection for people to consider you to be adequately protected.
