  1. I think that is it's forte. That it's more like eating with an average Italian family than a formal restaurant. So one doesn't feel uncomfortable eating alone. Not gourmet, just simple fare.

The main issue in Thailand is that you can't obtain the highest quality ingredients without paying through the nose and therefore that would be reflected in the prices.

So most of the restaurants I have visited in Pattaya have to compromise.

You don't see too much Mozzarella di bufala  and decent Parmigiano-Reggiano  is expensive.

So these ingredients and others are often substituted with inferior products.

I take my own ingredients with me when on holiday for a longer term, so my home made Italian food is invariably better than what is offered in restaurants in Pattaya.

But there are some things I cannot or don't want to make at home, so they still have a use for me.

Because they are, simple. I've flown pretty much all the airlines that serve Europe and those two that I mentioned just stand out.

Why? A combination of different reasons. Punctuality, airport lounges, menus, modern fleets, service, regional destinations in UK, IFE etc etc. Just my opinion. You, of course are entitled to yours.

How is any of that relevant to the OP's question?

He didn't request a regional airport, lounge access would depend on FF level or Business Class and up booking. Modern fleet is  no argument, as I flew upstairs on a THAI A380 too and fro BKK.....and their service was excellent.

We aren't referring to the overall fleet, but London to Bangkok. Emirates and Qatar have no advantage over THAI when it comes to that route.

I too have flown with all of the premium airlines in both Economy and Club/Business and for this particular combo, neither Qatar or Emirates offer any advantage to the OP, unless you want to have a break in the journey.

Since the OP did not, Qatar and Emirates offer a distinct disadvantage.

In addition, you cannot select your seats at the time of booking with Emirates, another distinct disadvantage in comparison with THAI.

    Quote

Complimentary for Emirates Skywards members tier Silver and above, for families travelling with infants and all passengers choosing a seat after check-in opens.

So unless you have Emirates Silver, you'll need to wait until you check in in order to select a seat.

With Qatar, you have to de-plane in Doha and have to go through the usual rigmarole in order to get on your second flight.

All this may be fine if you have lounge access/flying Business Class and above as you can take advantage of the facilities, have a massage etc. But you can do the same in the BA/THAI business Class lounges.

So...Emirates/Qatar are really not better on this particular route and it was to this route we were referring.

I would only chose them when they are substantially cheaper.

If you talk about Pizza Italy, it moved a bit South in a small Soi opposite Pattaya City Hospital, just North of Soi 15. Unsure if it's still running because its new location was a very bad one. It clearly lacked of customers at my last visits (about 2 years ago) and - consequence? - I found the quality went down a lot, so I stopped to go there.

La Taverna del Passatore is also in a soi opposite Pattaya City hospital.  Almost at the end of the soi that has Mai Thai at the head. Yet they always seem to have Italian customers there.

exactly. in the usa returning without "credit" is a significant problem if you have been gone a long time. credit is king, not cash like in thailand.

getting an apartment, a job in any field, even cable tv is quite difficult without the credit history and score of paying bills over time. everybody looks at your credit history and extends services based on that, they are not interested in bank balances etc.

with a gap your looking at low class services like inability to rent a place, check cashing scams, anything can be done with big assets of course, but your still looking at big cash deposits for everything and the kind of hassles you dont get in thailand.

just this one point is worse then any visa hassle you may have here.

theres no winning. your just trading one basket of hassles for another. changing the topic of complaint if you will. oh well thats life.

We aren't talking about the USA.

OP can get a basic bank account without an overdraft facility.  https://uk.virginmoney.com/virgin/current-account/essential-current-account.jsp

I'm sure he has most things lined up already.

  5. Business or Economy?

BA has the smallest seat pitch and TV monitor unless something has changed.

I just flew with THAI and was pleasantly surprised, as for so long their product was under par.

Partner flew with EVA and she too was impressed.

Since tickets bought direct with EVA will have the best ticket conditions, i.e.; change fees, my choice would be EVA, THAI, BA in that order prices being equal.

I see something scary on their website...

    Upgrade options for Tourist SIM

    And it's like 1000 bahts for 30 days ?!...

    Edit... Not sure...

    Nowhere i see a limit of 3 months, that's sound good ?

I just have to undestand the TopUp, but it's written : "get at least 30 days more validity for every top-up" on my enveloppe. So ten minimal top-up should give me a +10 months validity right ?

No...it won't extend beyond three months ahead, no matter how much you top up. You can just top up every month to keep it going.

Changing the promotion might work. http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/topping/service_number_en.html

Otherwise you'll just have to remember to top up. Make sure Roaming is on and Data Roaming is off whilst abroad. Buy ten True Money card/slips before leaving and apply one each month.

You can also top up online here: http://hlife.truecorp.co.th/verify_otp_4g?ln=en

There is very few companies that specifically cover motorcycles and most are limited to under 125cc. They also stipulate you must have a license, be alcohol and drug free, wear all safety gear and not be breaking any laws at the time.

A lot of policies have transport cover as an option which relates to being a passenger in or on most vehicles. A large number of policies I have seen only have this at higher levels of cover.

without knowing what his policy is, the company that provided it and his level of cover it's all just speculation

Seems that too many people are posting without having read what has gone before.

The name of the insurer has been posted, as well as the relevant clause.

Check your policy.u need to have a motorbike license from here.then u are covered.if u don't have a bike license, then u in trouble.i get travel insurance everytime and I check  the policy I,am covered.very easy to ride a bike in the LOS but a license is what u need to be covered for up too a 125.that is why the police have a field day, everyday and get lots of tea money for no license from a farang.i have watched it many times from the bars on beach  road.just outside the police station in pattaya.a international license is needed too.it happens everyday somewhere in Thailand a motorbike death

Calm down folks, tragic what has happened to the lad.

I know i have been there in a similar situation.

Please stop screaming about his insurance company, as we all know travel insurance does not cover riding motorbikes.

Compassion does not come into it with insurance companies, just hard facts.

I hope the lad gets the best treatment possible, yes there is good care provided in Thai hospitals.

Chin up lad be positive, my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I have the premium policy with this company, so know what they cover.

    They exclude;

    Quote

Any claim that results from you riding a motorcycle with an engine over 125cc (as either the driver or a passenger) unless we have agreed in writing to cover the activity, as shown on an endorsement with your validation certificate, and you have paid the appropriate premium.

So likely covered if on a scooter. But we don't know the extenuating circumstances.

  10. I remember warning a acquaintance from school about investing his money in the Suan Sawarn project. As far as I know, he didn't take heed.

At least the exchange rate at the time was more favourable.

    Haven't seen anything since these were posted;

I bought a dtac tourist card a year or so ago and keep getting extensions, no problem. As of yesterday had it extended to April next year - the system seems to be that you have to buy a minimum amount of time for each month as I note them printing out about 10 receipts when I do it but I bung them 300 baht which covers the extension. For international I dial 004 then the country code. To check balance, it's *101*9#. Any other drama, dial 1678 and press 9 for English.

24 baht max would have done it.....
