I've got only two days left on my current permission to stay.  I'm not too excited about playing immigration officer roulette.  Perhaps the most ridiculous part is that they are the ones who should be keeping records.  THAT'S WHY THERE'S AN IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT.  If all those bank letters and copies I supplied at prior immigration visits are unavailable for checking, then what good are they in the first place?  Why even bother collecting them?

Imagine this level of competency at any other place of business.  Imagine going to the bank and having them ask you to bring in your past year's records because they're not quite sure how much money you've got in their bank!

Certainly a ridiculous requirement from them !!
Other than trying a different imm officer I have no other suggestions.

I wish you luck and hopefully this is not what is next on the cards for the rest of us !!

I'm back and will update as promised.  The 2 month seasoning was accepted without question.  I had my 800K in the bank on March 22nd and today is May 22nd, which is two months and one day.

However, I ended up not getting my extension for another reason: The immigration officer noticed that this was my 4th retirement extension and wanted to see my financial proof going back those three prior years.  Basically she wants to do an audit of my entire history of retirement extensions before granting me another one.

Of course I didn't expect that so I had nothing to show her.  Now that I am home and looking back through old bank registers, there isn't enough detail to satisfy the officer because I rarely got the book updated.  I would have to go into the branch and ask for a detailed statement and the last time I did that, it took nearly ten business days to get it back and I've got only two days remaining on my current extension.  The immigration officer has made a demand that places me in an impossible situation.

So I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I've got two days to think about it.

    Well, that’s a new one !!

Not sure what you can do about that if your financial records are not available for the last four years .
Maybe go back and see a different IO, cos the one you saw is surely making up the rules for fun !!

  3. Yes I have to agree, how could the Farangs represent more than half the Thai population?
Perhaps they should change the country name from Thailand to "Farangland" on those figures.
It seems to suggest a long held feeling that Thai forward planning is what am I having for lunch?
    Blame anybody except yourself!

That error was cleared up, the 38 million were actual visitors in 2018, number of OA visa holders in 2018 was 80,950 .

  4. was this a bill to a thai or a farang ?

if farang, meh... he should have gotten 40k outpatient insurance

    just kidding

who here thinks the overpricing will only increase with the forced insurance SCAM upon us

don't be stupid and blind to think this over 50 will only be to O-A ... and 33 million O-A visa's?  someone confused visa on arrival with retirement ?

That error was cleared up, turns out the 38 million was actually number of visitors in 2018, number of OA visa holders in 2018 was 80,950 .

  5. It depends. Usually amphur (district), but can tambon (subistrict). The administration of, and requirements for, the issue of a yellow book are so variable (even by the standards of Thai bureaucracy) from place to place that the only worthwhile advice is local advice. I suggest you go to your local district office as a starting point. If you don't speak Thai, take a Thai speaker with you.

Thanks, the reason I asked is, I went to my Amphur almost 2 years ago to get the yellow book, long story short: it didn’t work out !!

Someone on a thread on TVF suggested I went to the Tessabahn, which I did but don’t come under their jurisdiction as they cover only the city and I am in a district outside. ( I am on the outskirts of the city and 5 minutes from the Tessabahn but 30 minutes away from the Amphur [emoji849])

But, a new building has appeared recently and the gf tells me it’s the Tessabahn so I was wondering if it was worth my time trying there.

You are obviously correct, I need to go and ask them.

  6. Hope my posts have given you some idea of what you can do. You might have to change your bedroom window to a double glazed tinted one but I don't think there to expensive.

I might not be able to reply to any post for the next couple of weeks 3 as off to the UK via BKK tomorrow morning.
    Regards.

    Thanks Fred,
Yes, plenty of food for thought now.

    Safe travels .

  7. Working on it.  I'm deeply tanned, I've dyed my blonde hair black, shaved all of my body hair, but have yet to find a plastic surgeon who can slant my eyes, remove my nose bridge, and raise my cheekbones.  Other than that I also still have to work on getting rid of my gutteral German accent, or at least softening it somewhat.  So, at this point I'd say about 50% Thai.

Seriously, though, what characteristic(s) have I shown that might suggest I'm Thai?  I'm curious.  I'd guarantee that if you were to meet me in the flesh you'd swear I was an American.  Been an expat since I was 2 years old.  So long now that I don't think of myself as a member of any particular nationality but simply as another earthling who belongs equally anywhere in the world.  LOL  Technically, and officially, I'm this:

Absolutely hilarious . . . when I played this on YT the initial image was replaced by this, requiring my approval before I was allowed to proceed:

Vat ze fick????  Doesn't come up when I play the U.S. or British national anthems.  Must report this to Angela immediately . . .

  8. There’s a small HomePro in a Big C complex near me and it has to own the record for most employees !!
I go in the back door ( in my dreams too [emoji51]) to avoid the multitude of employees gathered around the main entrance.
You really have to run the gauntlet !!, it’s like going to the Beach Club in KL early doors, without the benefits of course [emoji849]

  9. 5555 very good Tippers. I'm learning new language every day - sock hop- sounds like we're all about 15. Speaking of which, i'm not sure you've quite got this age thing right. I believe you referred to us collectively as fossils but this is ignoring the laws of time that apply when one is in Thailand. The fact is once you step onto Thai soil you cease to age. This can be physical or mental or both, and is commonly attributed to various factors such as the balmy weather, nature in full bloom the whole year, the wonderful women, somtam, morlam, the convenience of life, cheap labour, ignoring all bye- laws etc.
Plus who can get old with the wonderful music we put up.
BTW, have you seen this guy's videos? He analyzes guitarists from the 50s. He's very perceptive, being a guitar tutor himself for 15 years, and what he says about how the players of the 50s, 60s and 70s had to learn their craft from listening, no Youtube, and had to gig and learn how to interact with audiences for years makes for interesting listening. Plus no one in the audience had a phone, and what with music, along with TV, pretty well being the sole medium, concerts were very important. He's got a whole series out.

Yup, I came across this guy about a week ago, I think it was related to a FB group about Free that I follow.
Anyhoo, here’s him dissecting Koss on Free’s Mr Big

  10. CharlieH has the best advice "The best you can do is to visit prior to actually applying and ask directly what they require, then hope you get the same person when you do apply. [emoji3] plus what happens on that day"

Since Amphur to Amphur requirements are different it would be helpful if some put which Amphur they applied at in their post.  As I was reading some of the easy/successful gaining of a yellow book I did not see what Amphur they applied at, what country they were from, married to Thai or not/visa held which may help those seeking information. I went to my Amphur in person with my Thai wife and asked what was required prior which prevented me multiple trips...plus a little luck.

I think most people visit first in the knowledge that the requirements of their Amphur could be different to those they have read about !

I visited mine for the requirements: excluding the copy of blue book and owners id, passport and usual copies i was informed of only 1 out of their 3 ( could have been more, I stopped before achieving yellow book ) requirements.

  11. Just had a thought. Have taken a snap of window into my Western kitchen. From same spot It'll give you more idea of tint and not being able to see through from the outside.

    That’s definitely tinted !!

So, I assume you got a local firm to come and do that ?
  12. Your window doesn't look very tinted to me. The double glazed ones I have look black from the outside but you can see out. You cant even see in at night with the lights on.

Give putting a car type tint on first then think about a lagging of some sort in the roof also the curtain backing, all will help a bit. I used to have a similar problem with my bedroom window That was tinted but the shading I put on with the roof lining has done the job. Mind you the last lot of 40c+ made me turn the Air on in the afternoon if I wanted to have a doze.

    Best of luck.

Yes, the window is single pane and has a slight green tint but not really UV proof just for looks, nothing like yours by the sounds of it .

Thanks for your help, it’s only been 2 months since I started this thread !! [emoji51] but I got waylaid having the tiling done outside and have been busy with the garden.
On top of this I’ve started painting the house, that green paint’s days are numbered !!

What’s the obsession with multicoloured stuff ??, my house is 5 different colours and the perimeter wall another !!
Will eliminate 3 of those colours, keep it simple is my motto !!
  13. How come you didn’t get the yellow book after all that arse ache?
i only got mine so I could officially own my car and bike, and get that pink ID card - which appears to have no use whatsoever [emoji38]

Well, I’ve done this rant on every yellow book thread for the last two years so shouldn’t do it again ........but........ here goes.

Went to the Amphur to enquire about yellow book and was told by some lady, after she checked with her boss, that only needed passport certified copy and translation.
Went to the Embassy, called in at MFA for translation, here the receptionist asked me if I wanted birth certificate translated also, this was news to me so gf called the Amphur and the lady, after checking with her boss ????, said yes !!

Left passport copy and copy of birth certificate, luckily I had one in my folder, with MFA to post to home.
When post arrived back to Amphur, lady looked at docs and said “ okay, just need to have an interview with my boss now “.
The “ boss “ talked to my gf , she looked quite embarrassed with his questions, I just nodded and smiled like a fool as I didn’t understand a word, he didn’t give her chance to translate for me and we left.

She told me he had asked her if I had been married, she replied yes, and he said he then needed a certified copy of decree nisi translated at the MFA !!
He also asked her if I did drugs as most farang do drugs !! <deleted>

I went back in , got my paperwork from the lady and that was that .

Luckily my Thai language skills are not good enough to understand him or for me to show him my disgust at his unprofessionalism as it would probably have ended badly for me.

The lowdown was that he didn’t like farang and was gonna make it as difficult as possible.
