  1. OP.  I actually keep pet pigeons (or rather the white racing pigeons / doves).

Once pigeons start nesting and roosting in one place it is very difficult to discourage them to move on!

Mine live in a coop most of the time, but are let out to fly each afternoon.  Some decided they liked to sit on the air con extractor units, and I did not want them pooping all over them.  A couple also liked to sit on the window ledge and poop down the walls.  Once one starts to use an area it will attract others to try the same place!!!

I tried pigeon spikes.  They did not work. The birds actually just sat on them (even through they appeared not too comfy lol).  The rubber snakes worked for the nesting mynah birds.. but the pigeons did not care about them and they liked to stand on them (soft on their feet).  Scaring them off with a broom or mop did not work either.  Only for a few hours. Insect spray has NO effect on them... as they don't have much of a sense of smell.

Okay, maybe just removing their nest was enough to move them on and the spray was just a coincidence.

Pigeons are not a problem for me anymore but birds in general are a nuisance, bird crap in a few different places.

Today in Big C I saw “ anti bird gel “ , in a silicone type of tube, anyone any experience ?
  2. Thanks but this does not answer my question . My friend obtained his first type 0 based on retirement in Bangkok last year. Is he eligible to get a re-entry permit before expiration date which would give him a second year without applying for extension of stay ?

No, the second year “ freebie “ is only available with an OA . A handy little loophole that enabled relatively worry free living for two years.

    I will miss it [emoji20]
  3. When I moved into this house, almost 2 years ago, pigeons were nesting under my eaves ( bungalow ) and from the amount of droppings had been there for a while.
I removed their nest ( no eggs ) and sprayed the area liberally with Chaindrite insect spray. They never came back but I have seen that they, might be others [emoji51], have made a home in a neighbours house .

Thanks for the clarification, always best to get 'actual experience' even in the face of contradictory 'official' website directives, and allowing for the variances we all experience between individual local IO's.

Incidentally and out of interest, presumably your first O-A was obtained at home, with the Medical/Police Clearance certification.   When you're extending (in your case Ayutthaya), do you have to provide new certification?

Given that local IO's are able to process O-A extensions, and as it appears that that category is the only one affected by the proposed medical insurance mandate, I can foresee much wailing and gnashing of teeth by IO's at checking individual insurance documentation, not all of which will be of local (Thai) origin.   They are unable to verify income sources other than Embassy letters, which doesn't bode well when you throw multi lingual health insurance policies into the mix.

Yup, if the MFA website can’t get the rulings correct what hope do we have ?? ????

Yes my OA was obtained in London, police check ( ACRO ) done online and the medical certificate done in Thailand ( a lot easier and cheaper, not many do it that way ).

Basically when your visa expires ( after 1 year ) , and if you have been prudent and obtained a second year, you are then on permission to stay based on retirement which is then extended the same as other extensions ( not marriage which is more involved ). No more requirements, police, medical etc .

Sooo, your OA is gone and forgotten, now you are on permission to stay , although on extension the form asks you what visa you entered Thailand on it has been reported on TVF that they don’t distinguish between non imm B, O or OA and you can write Non Imm.

  5. That was my impression also, but apparently not true.    I believed that Non Imm O-A could only be obtained from Thai Embassies/Consulates in home countries/permanent residence countries.   That appears not to be the case.   This from the MFA website (http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908/15385-Non-Immigrant-Visa-"O-A"-(Long-Stay).html[emoji20]

    3. Channels to submit application

Applicant may submit their application at the Royal Thai embassy or Royal Thai Consulate-General in their home/residence country or at the Office of the Immigration Bureau in Thailand located onGovernment Center B, Chaengwattana Soi 7, Laksi, Bangkok 10210, Tel 0-2141-9889.

So it appears that the main Immigration Office in Bangkok can issue them.   Again, my impression was that an O-A Visa had to be renewed when expired, not extended, and again through a home country Thai Embassy/Consulate.   Apparently it can be extended, though again specifically in Bangkok:

5.4  Foreigner who wishes to extend his or her stay shall submit a request for extension of stay at the Office of the Immigration Bureau with documented evidence of money transfer or a deposit account in Thailand or an income certificate showing an amount of not less than 800,000 Baht or an income certificate plus a deposit account showing a total amount of not less than 800,000 Baht.  A one-year extension of stay shall be granted at the discretion of the immigration officer to the foreigner as long as he or she meets the above requirements.

Whilst the initial visa application gives the option of home bank/income options, an extension within Thailand only mentions Thai banks.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but just so many contradictory statements/posts happening at the moment, as an example, the 'official' commencement of the Medical Insurance requirement being 1st July.   Only a Police Order and subsequent editing of the MFA website can confirm that, and I guess that will be reasonably imminent if it's going to happen at all.

Unfortunately this MFA website is incorrect !!

OA visa can only be obtained on your home country or a country you are classified as resident.

This information came from Ubonjoe and he’ll be along soon to verify it .

Plus you extend your permission to stay based on retirement from an OA visa at the IO where you are living, I did my extension at Ayutthaya.

  6. For what it’s worth......
I have been looking at Thai embassy and Thai consulate websites in Canada and USA searching for requirements for O-A and O-X visa applications.  The O-X requirements include the insurance policy.  The O-A requirements do NOT!

    Just sayin.

It all remains to be seen, eh?

The OA has been around many years and has never required health insurance.
The OX is relatively new ( less than 1 year ? ) and they introduced the health insurance requirement.

Now ( from July 1 ) all new OA visas require the health insurance, so it hasn’t happened yet therefore is not on Embassy websites.
  7. Indeed, must admit I wasn't aware of that.   I thought that it just expired and required a new visa, not extension.   This is the MFA edict:

Yup, this MFA website also states that you need a Thai police check as well as your home country, that wasn’t the case 2 1/2 years ago!!

Also never seen it in writing about squeezing a 2nd year from the OA .
I learnt that trick on TVF , and this week a poster with an OA was surprised to find that out .
