  1. Undertaking is illegal in Thailand so was she aware ?  Was she wearing a seatbelt and had she passed her driving test legally.  These questions never appear to be answered in most traffic accidents highlighted. So if the answer is no to any one of those questions then all I would say is "what goes round comes round"

Undertaking isn't illegal in Thailand, on this type of road at least, but I think it bloody well should be !!

The people treat it like they can drive at any speed in any lane !! Hence all the zigzagging, we all see it every day.

Undertaking isn't illegal in the US and yet people have the common sense to make it work.

Yet, here ...... well as we all see....disrespect for other road users ending in carnage !!

I hope the young lady recovers and takes some driving lessons before getting behind the wheel again .

  2. I just want to say how impressed I am by the cheapness of car repairs in Thailand compared to UK. The car, Mazda CX5 has just been repaired at Mazda. Two new doors 14000 Bt. I paid 300 GBP (12600) here in England to have a bonnet repainted!
I am glad now that I didn't make much fuss when the accident occured and subsequently at the police station.

I had my white Honda scraped in a car park, got it fixed at Honda dealership for 1000 baht.
I was happy for a month until it went yellow !!
    Had it redone last week.

    I'll repost in a month [emoji53]
  3. Tesco have the worst till displays, Big C the best. Items on offer do not always come up on screen as they are checked it gets deducted at the end. Lots of times higher price at check outs than on the shelf, but Tesco and Tops still give you the item free if it happens and you complain, got free wine last time in Tesco. Big C stopped that as it happens too often, probably the shop with least problems and best staff is 7/11. I like Foodland as all items are usually price marked and no long queue at the checkouts.

Happened to me twice this week !

Bought a deodorant at Big C , shelf price 89 baht, cashier price 95 baht, I commented but it fell on deaf ears, I'm not gonna get stressed over 6 baht !

Then yesterday gf wanted to buy an electric cooker pot at Home Pro, 599 baht on the shelf, 679 at the checkout, pointed it out to cashier who " radioed " an assistant who just bought another one which scanned at 679 baht.
I was not having it so a supervisor came and after a few minutes of chit chat with the gf offered me it at 645 baht !!
I declined and went home empty handed ☹️

Of course today will look for the same pot in other shops and probably end up paying 750 baht !!

  4. My turn:-
    1)
    Gold watch, diamond ring,
    I ain't missin' not a single thing.
    And cuff links, stick pin,
When I step out I'm gonna do you in.
    2)
I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
    If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
    3)
In my heart the fires burning
Choose my colour find a star
    Precious people always tell me
    That's a step a step too far
    4)
And a crowd of young boys, they're fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles
    5)
I met a hula mistress somewhere in Waikiki
Well she was sellin' pineapple, playin' ukulele
And when I went to the girl, come on and teach me to sway
She laughed and whispered to me, yes come tonight to the bay

  6. A lot depends on what you want to do on your phone with internet .

Most of the AIS packages reduce speed when hit the download limit and then drops down to 128 Kbps which is really slow.

    For example:

I had a 89 baht package with unlimited internet for 7 days but download speed of 512 Kbps which is still a bit slow for playing a YouTube video for example. ( need to wait for buffering)

I currently use a 99 baht u/limited for 7 days with speed of 1mb and its enough for my needs.

I've also tried 5gb for 30 days at 499 baht and 4 gb for 30 days at 399 baht but when the limits were hit then speed reduced and I found I was limiting my usage for the last week.

I suggest you decide how much you gonna use before signing for a 12 month cycle.

I'm happy with my 99 baht ( 106 with tax) 7 days, 1 mb speed unlimited internet.

Mine is prepaid, just top up at machines outside 7-11. Any additional money can be used for phone calls, but I rarely use it as a phone nowadays, can make calls using iMessenger or WhatsApp or FaceTime free on my internet.

  7. I was very disappointed with the Jack Reacher film....was crap....Then I found a film called "John Wick'....Yes it is very tongue in cheek regarding the action stuff but if you like cars and non stop action then it might be worth a look...I did watch it till the end, so it must have been entertaining...

Yeah, it's a great movie, some dark humour in there as well !

Viggo: I heard you struck my son. May I ask why?

Aureilo: Because he stole John Wick's car and killed his dog.

    Viggo: Oh.

  8. One could almost be excused for profiling here.

As you approach a break in the upcountry highway on the left, and a yellow, reflective sign for a center-divide U-Turn 300 meters ahead, put there by a road "engineer" with a mail-order degree in livestock management and a sadistic sense of humor, you observe a half-rusted, mud encrusted mid-1980's model Mitsu Space Cab pick up with its pitch black tinted windows rolled down (a/c doesn't work), manned by a Thai male driver of unknown advanced age clinging to a steering wheel he can barely see over, idling on the left shoulder, mouth open, licking lips, staring repeatedly in rapid succession in your general direction then across to the far right lane as you you approach the perpendicular Fatal Funnel.  You groan, ease off the petrol to engine brake decel whilst flashing your high-beams and muttering something about The Bleeping Muppets to your Thai wife, whose knuckles are losing pigmentation from gripping the sides of her seat in escalating anxiety.

    What will he do?

A). Nothing, wait for you to pass.
B). Wait until you are 100 meters closer.
C). Clutch amulet, Wai, then smash the accelerator and sprint across all lanes of traffic at a mind blowing 3khp in a trailing cloud of black diesel exhaust.
    D).  Both B and C.
