  1. Yes it must be restricted to tourist cities and areas then.

I just used my card now at Krungsi exchange booth. No fee's and had cash in hand within 3 minutes. I'll find out tomorrow what the MasterCard exchange rate was once I check my account. XE states 44.3.

I haven't used an ATM for over 6 months.

My GBP a/c that I opened has never been used. Opened it to transfer GBP but charges are made for this.

  2. .....Always Bangkok bank?

I use Bangkok bank often but have also used Krungsi, kasikorn, SCB.

You will find that some branches may not have counter withdrawal facilities for various reasons but mostly all do.

Just a few days ago a Bangkok bank branch advised me they had run out of cash. I then just used a Krungsi currency exchange booth in the same shopping mall.

  3. I've been using my UK clarity credit card weekly for the past 6 months and always get free counter withdrawals with no limit at all banks and exchange booths.

I once withdrew 75,000 baht from Bangkok bank to buy a bike. I usually withdraw 40,000 at a time.

No Thai bank fees and no foreign transaction fees. I also get the MasterCard exchange rate which is better than Thai banks and exchange booths.

The only time I was charged was at SCB. 300 baht but I complained and got the cash back in my hand(after a lot of debate).

  4. Fact is, the vast majority of potential muslim extremist attacks within the UK are halted before these attrocities can take place.

Counter terrorism efforts are very effective in stopping UK Islamist threats.

Sadly, no matter how effective these efforts are, they cannot stop them all.

It is indeed very worrying to think about the number of Islamist fanatics living within the UK.

  5. I noticed the few Indian restaurants south Pattaya were not busy at all one day last week as I was passing but as someone mentioned, they apparently eat very late at night.

The 4 or 5 on 2nd rd heading south:-

    1st one - empty

    2nd one - 1 table(2 customers)

    3rd one - 1 table(2 customers)

    4th one - 1 tables(2 customers)

    5th one - empty

    Lebanese one - empty

  6. You have to take into consideration the purchase price.  Also you don't think your maintenance costs will ever exceed the 20 Baht bulb you bought? As far as car prices go in Thailand I don't know of anybody who thinks cars are a great value here. In many cases people say they are double the price back home.

The ferry is what a 150 km trip? So for 1,250 it is less than 10 Baht per kilo. If you do not consider the purchase price of your car you are not making a valid comparison.

You may have got a very good deal or whatever but in general my reasoning about car prices in general is the reality. Owning a car in Thailand for most people is one of their biggest expenses living over here and for most any other type of transport in comparison is very cheap.

So I am just not certain you can actually reason that buying a car in Thailand is a far better value than the ferry.

Cars are ridiculously expensive here but I'm not comparing car ownership to a ferry trip. I'm only talking about a bike which most people own here & its cost per mile.

In my calculations I have taken purchase price on a used bike. Yearly servicing costs, new tyres, insurance, tax, fuel, mileage etc.

Ferries in Europe are cheaper & can also accommodate bikes & cars onboard.

  7.
Plus, people just add up the cost of fuel, forgetting that's a small portion of the total cost of owning and operating a vehicle.  There's depreciation, maintenance, insurance,  finance costs, living in a place where you have a parking spot and on and on.  It still may be cheaper than the cost of the boat ride, but not as cheap as some folks make it out to be.

And they all seem to remember that one trip where they made it in 3 hours, forgetting about all the other times when they got stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours just getting through Bangkok.

Depreciation? No, my vehicle bought used & has actually increased in value.
Maintenance? 20 baht for a bulb.
    Insurance? 300 baht.
    Finance costs? None, paid cash.
    Parking spot? Free

And on and on? Please elaborate?

For me, fuel is largest cost of owning a vehicle.

  8. Yes, unlimited to mean unlimited wifi but once you exceed your data limit, the speed slows down.

I just bought new notebook to stream tv. I have unlimited 3G wifi with true.

I watched couple hours of HD content on YouTube & received a text from true "you have used 9gb of 16gb".

I watched just over another hour of YouTube & another text from true "you have used 12gb of 16gb".

    Wow, 3gb in an hour!

Went to true & asked for advice. They told me I get 100mbps speed but once I've used my 16gb it drops to 128kbps.

So correct me if I'm wrong but I only receive a thousandth of the speed?

Ive checked websites & some say I can still stream tv whilst others tell me I can't.

From experience here in Thailand, can anyone tell me if 128kbps is enough to stream tv?

  9. We don't yet know the reasons for this attack.

If it was a business dispute, why were the bombs detonated mid afternoon in the knowledge of innocent people being killed or injured?

Why didnt they do this when the store was closed?

  10. It seems like Thais do not know where they are going, before getting into their vehicle.

They decide once on the move or change their mind at the last minute.

This can only explain why they sit stationary on the right hand lane, ready to turn right at the lights, before suddenly pulling out across 2 lanes & then turning left. Why wait to turn right & then suddenly go in the opposite direction?

Or when they overtake before pulling straight in front of you, making your brake and then indicating and turning left.

  11. Most ferries all over the world do not allow cars. Also don't forget this new line is on a temporary solution. They have announced 2 bigger boats (with cars!) to come, for when Hua Hin pier will be able to receive them.

The actual price seems ok to me, as I would probably use it just for 1 or 2 persons for a week-end, not for a full family or tribe.

Suppose it depends on where you come from. In Europe all ferries are equipped to carry cars & bikes, and most of them even large trucks & lorries.

I have travelled from UK on an overnight ferry to Holland & Belgium with my bike for the equivalent of 3000 baht return. That includes a bed in a shared cabin!

I find the price ridiculous as is the fact that it doesn't allow cars (which to me is what "ferry" means, otherwise it is just a boat).

My only interest in this service would be not as a way to get to Hua Hin but as a short cut in driving to points further south - which of course only works if it takes car. Even with a car, 1200 baht would be overprices IMO.

Exactly. My only reason for using this service would be to travel south by bike.

Big mistake running a ferry without bike or car access.

  13. Is this the latest farang scam ? 18 million baht for a year training one of the worst teams in the world that will never qualify to any WC. .  No wonder he looks happy .

Thailand have improved vastly over the past few years.

SE Asia cup winners twice in a row & winning thru to the final qualifying round of the World Cup this campaign, show they are within distance of a potential 1st appearance at the World Cup finals in the future.

  14. 18m thb a year... About 500k usd a year... That's jack squat for a national football team manager. No wonder thailand won't ever reach the WC finals, even a 48 team one!

There's no structure at school level to identify talented athletes, don't think they even do sport or PE at Thai schools.

    Sport/PE in Thai schools?

It's a pity that her school couldn't have given her some sound advice about riding a motorbike in Thailand, ['don't'], really essential if they valued her as an employee. Many teaching agencies in Thailand, especially the top-end ones, which supply teachers to good schools, won't allow their teachers to ride a motorbike here, it's written into the contract, and with good reason.

Written into the contract? That's ridiculous.

How otherwise would teachers get to school?

The schools should educate not only the students but also the teachers the importance of road safety including the wearing of helmets.

Police do nothing to stop speeding motorists.
