The airline, they are supposed to check visa at check in.

He was out on bail 6+ months. Got before a judge and got fined, then sent to IDC (immigration detention center) for deportation. Took two months for NZ embassy to schedule a flight home. He could have gone home in one day if he could afford to buy a ticket himself.

I did this in 2007 on Samui. I had to drive around the parking while lady boss checking out from her office window. She only checked if I wore a helmet.

I have the same DTAC plan, I use the phone as wifi hotspot and connect my tab with it. -
It's better now, The Thai bars have been told to keep the music low now. My balcony is facing soi3 so I had probably more noise than Euro. I'm very high up so not sheltered from the noice. I've lived in Thailand for 17 years so I'm used to it. Now it's so quiet I can't sleep ????
