  1. Same for me. 6m thb, Bangkok Bank acct in Huahin. Transferred using Wise. No questions ever asked. I regularly transfer 10k USD with no questions ever. YMMV
  2. Of course this is nonsense but it does raise the question of who brainwashed you. BTW, the dollar is under pressure, and has been for decades, but the idea of any country "rapidly de-dollarising" is simply silly. What currency would you like to see become the world's reserve currency instead? Wait, let me guess.......
  3. Phalanges are fingers. I think that what he meant. ????
  4. Sorry, the minimum requirement is 15 cows. So close yet so far!
  5. The real question is whether the power poles acted in individual volition to wreck the van or was it a conspiracy. Either way it's scary. From now on I will avoid any Thai roads with power poles lurking nearby. (the jury is still out on whether roadside trees also harbor such vicious intentions).
  6. Agreed. I do all I can to remain not only a closed book but an empty book to the internet. Anybody that reveals any more of their personal details, especially pictures, than necessary on any social medium is living dangerously. I highly recommend the documentary "Social Dilemma". If you use any of the popular social media and can watch this without squirming, then you aren't paying attention.
  7. These stories keep coming about chasing landlords. Eventually somebody like you tells the true story. The renter can submit the form themselves. I did it several times myself. It is totally legitimate as others like UbonJoe regularly explain. Next week we'll see yet another such inquiry. Thanks.
  8. Actually BritManToo you've made a seminal point. If anything sets us apart from our home countrymen (persons?) it is that we made a move that few of them can/will/should make, and we've sustained it for several years or more. Now, some of us are here because we simply couldn't make it at home for various reasons, and we tend to hear from them daily on this site. I've only been here for 6 years but I know very clearly why I came, why I've stayed, and why I have no plans to exit. The sacrifices I made over my career enabled me to live financially comfortably here until my demise while leaving my loving Thai Lady a house and comfortable retirement. I would venture to guess that the vast majority of longterm expats here have a similar story. You won't see us on the streets at night, or in bars, or clubs, or police stations. That's because we saw a possibility of greater happiness, grabbed our n*ts, made the leap, worked through the pains of cultural acclimation, and finally achieved an acceptable level of contentment, if not total peace, in our new homes. I'm posting this to emphasize that it is possibleto do and there is a large number of us who have done it successfully. Maybe we just don't vocalize much about it because it is irrelevant to us now. The best answer to the OP might be found from the response to my repost : either I'm delusional (always a possibility) or I'm right. What say you fellow risk-takers?
  9. Lacking any evidence to the contrary we might assume that he is speaking from personal experience. His or somebody he knows perhaps? In any event, his personal and tragic experience is clearly not wide enough to contravene the many decades of national and global experience to the contrary. The 'stepping stone' mythology lost respect soon after it appeared in the government propaganda film "Reefer Madness". Nonetheless, I recommend viewing it again. The laughs are never-ending, especially if one has just indulged in a hit of 'personal enjoyment'.
  10. Clinging to this decades-old mythology is like sweeping sand off the beach: your job is never done and your efforts go unnoticed. Maybe beating a dead horse would be a more fulfilling hobby.
  11. Yes. I noticed that too. I have to crank my phone volume to max and put on a headset. Not worth the trouble. Worst of all, I get the distinct impression that Rooster himself doesn't care for this medium.
  12. I've only watched a couple of his videos but prefer the written reports, for what that's worth.
  13. Yes, I have seen a decline. Are you serious? Asking for a friend.
  14. Wheat and its products can be stored for decades in containers filled with nitrogen gas, but hardly worth the trouble. Even weevils need oxygen after all.
  15. Ah yes, the sweet smell of crematorium smoke in the morning. I lived only a few blocks from a Wat in Chaam and always wonders where the smoke came from. That is until I went to a funeral there for a neighbor. It was kind of a shock to realize I'd been huffing dead bodies for a year. ????????
  16. Excellent point. Forest fires, floods, avalanches, tsunamis, and volcanoes are equally 'natural', but given the option I will avoid them. I met my Lady in Phuket 6 years ago but after a short courtship I told her she had a choice: Move to Chaam and live with me or break it off. No way I was living in Phuket. She came with me and we're both happy living in the middle of a pineapple plantation west of Hua Hin. ????
  17. Or build your own. A few decades ago I made one from an old dishwasher. Two months ago I bought a cold drink cabinet from a scrap dealer and made a much better one. Smaller space heater thru the bottom back wall, simple vent hole in upper back wall, and digital controller for the heater. Used the existing internal fan from the cooler to churn air inside. PVC pipe frames for stainless steel mesh for trays. I'm glad to share details; PM me. I bought some parts on Lazada. Cabinet 1000฿, total cost about 2000. I love my 'tomato chips' and other dried fruits and veggies.
  18. The former president reminds me of Wiley Coyote, after finding himself beyond the edge of the cliff, windmills his arms and legs in a futile effort to avoid the long fall he knows is surely coming. It's all part of the show. American bought the tickets to this show in 2016, and paid dearly for them. Let us all relish the suspenseful buildup to the inevitable climax; this is only the beginning.
  19. 80‰ of Americans support a woman's choice. You listed several of the examples of the twisted logic that abortion foes display. We are as confused as you are. In the end it always seems to come back to religion. Religion is an just a way to justify controlling another person's choices. Eventually it will considered the mental disorder that it is.
  20. Yes. The department abbreviation is DOPe.
  21. Naturally you would like to change that too I assume? "It takes a village" after all to agree on such private matters. Should the outcome be decided by simple majority or should it legally be unanimous in a county forum.? Power to the people!
  22. How did it get to the point that a woman cannot choose to have a 1cm lump of cells (look it up) removed from her body? If it was a common lipoma under her skin a clinic would remove it, do a few stitches, and she would leave relieved. Too many folks spending too much time worrying about somebody else's womb. Find a another hobby , or at least keep your nose out of someone else's private parts.
  23. No worries. You get your reward in heaven for this persecution. Better than Daniel and the lions. Right? Of course, it's all a matter of faith they tell me. Personally, I have none.
