Similar problems in the U.K., staff were laid of during Covid, they found better terms and conditions elsewhere so never returned. Brexit was another factor, a lot of foreigners returned home as they needed a visa but probably have found work in their home country now. One of the biggest shortage is collecting fruit and vegetables on farms. Years ago students used to do it but the foreigners mostly Eastern Europeans housed in port aka ins were recruited as they were cheaper.

Even if she got a 2 year visa she could only stay 6 months, I think she would have to stay in Thailand for 6 months before returning for the next 6 months.

I have had some Guinness in the Metro Sports Bar in LK Metro, 220 baht a pint, tbh the same as in the U.K., fully air conditioned and over 12. TVs, no girls pestering you. Around 30 farangs in the bar, the Thai lady knew exactly how to pour it albeit I think she was was frustrated she had to do 75% let it settle then 25% to top it up. i spoke with owner, very popular seller he sad, it was imported from Dublin unfortunately when the current stock runs it out it takes a month for the next delivery. I am not sure why they didn’t re order before they ran out ?

My local pub in the U.K. had 2 Guinness pumps. One was chilled the other was extra cold, they removed the chilled pump as they said there was no demand for it.

I used buy OSH in bottles in the U.K., I am sure The Punch and Judy pub opposite Caddy Shack sold it, I am not sure if it is still a pub though.

OSH, used to be leg collapsing stuff but they reduced ABV from 5.2% to 4.5% in the keg version to make it more sessionable according to Moreland brewery who brew it. Hi

So how is it served, Guinness is served as extra cold in the U.K., it goes through a double chilling process.

What does it matter how some one dresses, you are being very judgemental, every one in general wears flip flops and shorts in Thailand and Asia or do you wear. a 3 piece suite when you go out ? What do you drink Gin and Tonic with your pinky in the air.

A few years ago Guinness brought out a machine called a Nitrosurger,the cans didn’t have a widget, prior to opening you put the can on the machine which vibrated the Guinness, I believe they sell the the machine in the U.K. not sure how readily the cans are.

Well that was quite a session on Guinness, we will all be well oiled now !

Maggie May on Soi Pothole used to serve up a great pint of Guinness at a decent price and it come with a shamrock on the head. It’s now a Gentleman’s Club, I can think of other names what a Gentleman’s Club is though is and what goes on behind closed doors and the price of a pint has increased substantially. I just want to enjoy a decent pint with out the ‘extras’ !

Snakebite was Guinness and Cider where I come from, some bars refused to sell because of its potency. I worked with a fella his drink was Guinness and Drambuie.

I remember Watneys Red Barrel and the tv adverts, it was like Worthington E, horrible, I think both were more a southern drink ?

Cider and Guinness was used to be popular as was Guinness and Blackcurrant.

That might have been the original Guinness which was sold in bottles in the U.K., tastes nothing like Draught Guinness albeit I used to drink it before moving onto of Draught Guinness. I am sure at one time when you were in hospital Guinness or Mackeson was given to some patients to increase their iron levels.

I worked at Irish Steel in the late eighties for a couple of months lived in a hotel in Cobh, small family run pubs in the village, the best Guinness ever !

Not correct maybe for lager, but a good bar person fills Guinness 75% then let’s it settle before topping it up. The hand pulled was a bit more complex, it used to take 2/3 pulls, you had to order it when you were halfway down your previous one.

Nowadays all beers are served via pumps/gas etc, the old hand pulled pumps were excellent but the breweries decided it was quicker for gas/pumps and generate more revenue.

Years ago in Ireland when it was the old fashioned hand pulled pumps, you could have a choice, ‘warm’ or chilled or 50/50. Nowadays the trend is ice cold beer/lager including Guinness which is criminal, I hate ice cold beer/lager, it’s bland. I like craft beer.which is served at room temperature.

The only drink I ever put ice in is whisky, I have colleagues here who put ice in their beer, no idea why, it just dilutes it and ends up like water !
