  1. I went to the US to study then I'll go back home. I didn't go to the US because I thought the US was a lot cheaper and had a lot of cheap prostitutes. :o

Why on earth do you need prostitutes, cheap or otherwise? :D

I lived in the US for 3 and a half years and never discussed such matters. Shame on you!

:D Oh well. I guess that was too subtle for bkkandrew. :D

Hmm, so let me get this straight... I was not subtle enough to seek out the price of prostitutes whilst living in the US...

Got to hand it to you! If that is the result of Subtlety, then you are welcome! :o

You still don't get it. :bah: This is getting funny. :D

Indeed, with all the laughs (as usual) directed at you! :bah:

  4. Is it worth moving to Thailand, you will only know after the experience of moving to Thailand.

If your life works out great, you will say "moving to Thailand is a great thing to do".

If your life after moving to Thailand turns to Shi-te, you will be blaming Thailand and advising that Thailand is not a good place.

    :D :D

So the natural reaction of Thaigoon (a Thai national) is to move to the US... :o

  5. Could someone let me know what the aircraft are like flying from london to bangkok direct with Thai?

I have not flown with them before but the price of the flight was excellent,

    Entertainment, etc

    Thanks

    Hi

As has been said before there is only the large screen on the LHR-BKK routes, I dont really mind this as you are probably asleep most of the time anyway. I find the leg room greater than other airlines, I'm nearly 6 foot and dont feel squashed at all with plenty of room between my legs and the seat in front.

You will almost certainly fly the Boeing 747-400 which only came out 18yrs ago not 30 as was said by another poster.

I fly thai all the time and have no complaints.

    Warwick

Clearly you are not used to decent craft, service etc...

In respect of the 30 years vs 18, I was giving an impression, but even THAI now admit that 18 YO is far too old...

Do you drive an 18 year old car? :o

  6. Will there be seat back tvs on my flight though?

Do all direct flights on thai have this?

Read my post further up the thread. LHR - BKK is rubbish. No TVs (save for the communal one they no longer have the shame to switch on), a 30 year old 747, dirty, smelly, need I go on?

  7. I will believe it when I see it. Remember - this is the 'airline' that cancelled an Airbus order about 4 years ago as Thai shrimps were banned from the EU due to high toxicity levels and THAI claimed that they "were going to pay in shrimps, so the deal was off".

The old crate they use on BKK to LHR is shameful and the reason I no longer consider using them.

  8. I am looking to change a substantial amount of uk pounds into thai baht, anybody can recomend somewhere who can beat most banks...?

Super Rich in Pratunam. On the Big C side of the river, down the first sub-soi. 02 655 0155.

Rates usually 1 baht better than banks.

Take passport. No daily limit, but would recommend calling first if over 10K sterling.

  9. Can anyone tell me the prefix number to dial using a 1-2-call sim from uk before the thai number? If not what about a number i can call from uk to contact 1-2-call to find out. My phone recieves international calls, but won't let me dial out. Looked on AIS website, but can't find anything..........

Beats me why you would want to use a Thai SIM to call out from UK, as a 5 quid UK SIM and one of the numerous 3p/min services for calls to Thailand would do the trick, eg. 08445662662 - then dial 0066+thai number.

However, if money wasting is your thing, simply dial +66 instead of the initail '0' and then the thai number. This will get you through and run up that bill!

  10. You really need some help.

The law states that you should have an onward ticket so that you are able to comply with the 30 visa exeption program. Having the ticket, whether you use it or not, is in compliance with the law. It is not nefarious, or lies, but compliance.

You, on the other hand, are a pedantic zealot, who presumably comes to the forum just pick a holier-than-thou fight with others.

Are you one of the guys that hands out bibles at the end of Cowboy on an occasional basis? :o

  11. 6million Bht, a bit more than I spent on an extension to my house and more or less what we plan to spend on building our next house (minus land costs).

In national terms A tiny amount of money in national terms, probably a bargain in terms of a good will gesture.

    210,000,000 BAHT

Also, when you consider that many Thai Civil Servants (Teachers among them) get paid late (sometimes 2-3 months behind), I am sure they will be happy that a palace a long way away looks good... :o

  12. If I buy a ticket out of thailand to get past immigration for a '30 day visa on demand', and then I cancel it... ok, so I have entered thailand. BUT,, now its cancelled and I will do yet another visa-run to poipet next week and I will do EXACTLY the same thing again, (buy a ticket and cancel it).

will they have on computer records that I was supposed to fly back to europe a week ago?

wil they realise I am doing a scam to get past immigration? or you reckon they dont bother making notes of your exit flight at immigration?

Why do you not do the decent thing.....and BUY a visa?

Does it make you feel good to act the cheapskate, in order to cheat the system?...if so....I feel sorry for your moral health!

do you realise that you are publicly declaring that you are a liar and a cheat?

Do you realise that you are publicly declaring that you are a tosser and a prat?

Back to the OP - have used 'onward' ticket for 7 years, which usually is cancelled or varied, but never broke the 30-day rule, or now the 90/180 day rule. I don't think that this will change, as there is no method Immigration can use to ensure you actually travel on the onward ticket you present to them.

  13. And since you can't legally own it unless it is part of the 49% of the block that is allowed, I would wonder if foreign banks would entertain this...

Not true. I know several people who have purchased condos in this way. Furthermore, I know of at least one person - married to a Thai - who has financed a house and land sale (in his wife's name) using their bank in the UK, while they are still living and working in the UK.

No UK bank will allow security of a non-EC property for a loan. If you know of one, feel free to share...

  15. We also wish to finance this purchase through a lending institution in Thailand. I believe this is possible, through a couple of website I have visited. We would look at obtaining pre-approval for finance before leaving Melbourne and hopefully have 7 or 8 units chosen to inspect upon arrival in bangkok.

Since you haven't received any replies I will bump your post.

I believe obtaining finance in Thailand for buying a condo to very difficult. And if you are not living and working in Thailand I don't think it is possible, at all, at least I have never heard of anyone having done it.

Your best bet will probably be to get the finance in place from a bank back home before you come to Thailand.

  16. Man, I care so much about the future of this country that I need to come to an internet board everyday to tell everyone that Thai economy is in crisis, even when the reality says otherwise. (It's an economic downturn because of the polictical uncertainty, not a crisis.) And I'm not gonna tell anyone that the reason I'm doing this is actually because my life in Thailand has been a completely sad and pathetic failure. So I need somewhere on the internet to help make me feel a bit better about my sad pathetic self, even if that's based on delusions. :D )

    :D

PS. Bkkandrew, you prepared one application for BOI 6 years ago?? :o (One of the funniest claims I've ever read on this forum. :D )

PPS - yes. spent two years working on setting up production in Bangkok for the corporate I used to work for - first (I.E. NOT LAST!!!) meeting at BOI September 03, thus proving my point that BOI projects from corporates take time from initial planning to formal meetings to applications etc. etc....

PPPS - Go back and study more rather than hurl insults about matters you know little of.

PPPPS - what is so funny about the BOI? Is it that you cannot stand the thought of us white-faced types there? I believe you had a choice word for our "types" in previous posts, but I won't repeat it as it is racist and got you suspended last time...

  17. well, it is now time for the updated list, of what has transpired since the glorious coup

all items mentioned below have been listed in this thread so refer back for specific articles. now i am sure the "defenders of the realm" (lollipops and rainbow brigade) can refute/counter 25% even 50% of the items listed, but alas, it is obvious the economy is taking it on the chin in all areas......point is negatives are outweighing the positives (there are some positives, but not many)......so flame away

i will expand the list as needed.......

Quite so, keep the FACTS rolling, so that we don't get obscured by the ramblings of the Expat Thai Goon, pontificating from afar, luxuriating in the knowledge that he is insulated from events here...

BOI numbers are largely the result of multi-year planning by companies. I know I prepared one about 6-years ago. Numbers now reflect sentiment some time ago. But there again, I guess you haven't submitted a BOI app. yourself have you Mr Goon?

  18. The only experience I have of this was my cheatin ex about 5-years ago claimed she was going to become a nun as she had an old flame coming back into town. She, in turn got the idea off her friend, who was seeing my mate. She shacked up with a customer in Seoul, whilst telling my mate she was in the temple (and therefore uncontactable) for 2-weeks... :o

a result of too much "Private Eye" magazine

But my mate has never read it - how do you account for that? :D

  20. or do certain groups give certain spins again?

i consider a new coup as highly unlikely - but what do i know?

anybody with a better feeling about it?

It will happen on Wednesday the 30th/Thursday 31st May.

I intend to fly out on the 27th... :o
