  1. I am confused, during his first term, Trump negotiated a new trade deal with canada and Mexico. Turns out now that they have been rippin g USA off for years...so why didnt he strike a better bargain back then? PH
  2. Anybody managed to book an appointment recently? Need to renew my extension and trying to book online but the App (Imm Chonburi) fails to open and the website appears only to offfer online booking for Bangkok. Am I kissing something? PH
  3. A lot on that list could equally apply to many othe rnationalities, both in their own countries and here. We could, if we wanted to be flippant, say that the majority on the list apply to pretty much all BMW drivers worldwide. PH
  4. Clearly a comapny pension????Where does is say that? (Clue: It doesn;t.) You are clearly (!) not open to suggestion that you may be wrong; so I will not engage further. PH
  5. The wording is very clear. Why would the Thai Tax code need to explain it is the Thai social security system that it is taling about? In any event, the UK State Pesnion is not a social security benefit so would not qualify under this section even if it applied to foreign systems. PH
  6. Your reading is flawed. Pensions are specifically coverd in Section 40: Section 40 Assessable income is income of the following categories including any amount of tax paid by the payer of income or by any other person on behalf of a taxpayer. (1) Income derived from employment, whether in the form of salary, wage, per diem, bonus, bounty, gratuity, pension, house rent allowance, monetary value of rent-free residence provided by an employer, payment of debt liability of an employee made by an employer, or any money, property or benefit derived from employment. (Thai) social security benefit is different. The UK State Pension is a Pension and, while is now claased a a beneifit, is not a social security benefit. Section 19 of the UK/Thailand DTA (like the Aus version) specifies which types of Pension are exempt from assessment here. The State Pension is not included. There is a comprehensive list of HMRC website (cannot cuyrently find the link) of which pensions are exempt.. Heresay evidence of what individual people have been told by individual front office tax officers is not particularly helpful as they are unlikley to be fully up to speed on the nuances of foreign pensions especially as SOME (eg US) ARE exempt, PH
  7. I wish to be educated... I have looked, but cannot find it, so, can you point me to the section in the Thai Tax legislation that tells us that I, as tax resident in Thailand, am not liable to tax on my UK State Pension because it is exempt? PH
  8. Not true. The UK state pension (unlike US) is not covered byt he DTA. PH
  9. And while we are caught up in this change, we are not the targets. There is a huge difference and I truly wish tax resident expats would realise that they are actually not that high on the agenda of the Thai authorities. We are incidental to the scheme of things. PH
  10. How many times will this falsehood be trotted out? It is NOT targetted at expats. PH
  11. What do the US call those who are living in the country (legally) but are not US citizens? PH
  12. What is a "proud" military history? One where a Country invades, subjugates then pillages the natives and the natural resources of the invaded country, perhaps? PH
  13. To add to oldcpu's reply - look at the hoops any foreigner needs to go through to gain permanent residence in UK, then try taking the UK permanent residence written test and see how you get on. Pretty sure most UK expats would fail. PH
  14. The requirements to gain a long term visa to live in Vietnam are, I believe, much more onerous than here. PH
  15. Or to do your due diligence before buying to make sure that the estate is well run. PH
  16. Please remind us which president increased the US national debt by the most. Ever. PH
  17. Indeed they do, but cannabis is stronger and, to many, worse. It is all about recognising and respecting the rights and conditions of others. I had an incident a few years ago with a neighbour who smoked (cigarettes) with his door and patio door open. The smell permeated into the hallway so I asked him to keep his door closed "But I don't want my condo full of smoke" was the reply! Er........so don't smoke it it then! But to inflict his residue on others for his own comfort...sorry not on. Before that ,we had a guy who liked to cook a lot of deep fried food - again keeping condo door and patio open...result, smell into hallway. Asked to stop by several then reported to Juristic who told him to stop iaw Condo regulations. Enjoy your own condo by all means, and do whatever you wish inside those walls...but as soon as whatever you do impacts on others, you are affecting their enjoyment of their own condo. If you want to create smells, make loud noise, or anything else that impacts others, then go buy a big house where your actions will be contained. PH
  18. Pople do indeed have the right to enjoy the space within their condos...those who do not like the smell of other people's weed will be very happy that those who do cannot do so where it will impact that enjoyment. My condo commitee/Juristic has banned the smoking (not possesson - that would be silly) of cannabis on the estate; I commend their stance. PH
  19. Questions for you: 1..If you are going to keep them on death row for 20 years before execution, what is the point of executing them at all? 2..Given he was found guilty of murder, would you be happy for Derek Chauvin to be executred? PH
  20. I think we are in agreement but misunderstandings occur with being recognised as living in ones' own condo by different organisations. I pay property tax as I don't have a yellow book - but as City Hall sends the invoice to me, by name, at my condo, I (incorrectly) assumed that meant I was registered as living here per, as you say, TM47 and TM30.....I guess not as on reflection, I could actually be living pretty much anywhere and they would still send the invoice to me as the owner. PH
  21. She must, therefore have a UK NI Number - she should register on the HMRC website where she will be able to see her entitlement PH
  22. Maybe, I dunno. As far as I am aware, I am registered as living in my condo, but I have a Blue Book as I am told getting a yelow one at Pattaya City Hall is nigh on impossible....am I not registered? PH
  23. Due to the numerous DTAs, the vast, vast majority of foreigners who are tax resident here will have no, or only extremely small Thai tax liability. Once I start receiving my UK OAP (if I live that long!) I will not have any laibility due to the tax I will already have paid in the UK. I have heard that is is possible for those taxed here to receive UK OAP tax free (in UK) and pay tax on it here, but as I a still two years away from this, have yet to do any proper research to validate this. PH
  24. Not quite true. For a yellow Tabien Baan, there is no property tax to pay. For foreign owned condo with a blue Tabien Baan, then propoerty tax (which is minimal) is due. Just about the only reason for a foreigner to go through the hoops to get a yellow tabien baan PH
