  1. Indeed, but sadly the norm for some. You carry on, it’s refreshing to read different posts of view. Dont be put off by the usual negative responses.
  2. How ironic, those that have been spreading doom and fear over Omicron before it arrived are now shocked that the country may be going back into ASQ
  3. Latest numbers from the UK. 83,000 new cases, around 7,000 down from yesterday. 45 new deaths with Covid, lowest for some time and as yet no sign of daily deaths rising.
  4. He is backing up what other experts are saying all over the world but it won’t stop the TB or the d&g merchants having a dig. Strangely enough people were criticising the 3 month gap a few months ago, now most countries have adopted it.
  5. Some more potential good news amongst the d&g https://news.sky.com/story/omicron-may-be-less-efficient-at-attacking-lungs-compared-to-other-variants-uk-study-suggests-12499678
  6. In reality possibly a mixture of all the above. You also now get people on the net promoting their/their chums social media blogs/Twitter accounts You can’t blame people for trying to earn a few quid. It’s tough times out there for many. Sadly as MSM proves, fear mongering headlines helps grab people’s attention.
  7. Absolutely, but you still see people moaning about kids playing in the park without wearing one. Hard to believe they were young once or ever knew what fun was.
  8. Javid sent out this morning to do the media rounds and getting mailed on both Sky and Marr. He’s in a no win situation as he’s already written in the Telegraph today that it “may already be too late” to bring in further restrictions. He’s trying to defend an impossible position as they are being informed by SAGE that further restrictions are needed now, before Xmas, but due to political paralysis and fear of another backlash from their own party they are dragging their heels with a pretty ineffective, useless Plan B. Apparently he knows more than SAGE, “Javid says while the advice from Sage is good, his job as health secretary is to challenge and question that advice and its underlying assumptions.” "I don't think it would be appropriate for government to take it verbatim," he says. Added to that a senior Tory and previous staunch ally, Lord Frost resigned overnight partly due to their ineffective handling and introducing Covid passports. Any future restrictions have to be taken back to Parliament for ratifying so it seems they are dragging their heels trying to postpone till after Xmas to keep his rebels happy. As a recap, yesterday’s numbers in UK were just over 90, 000 new Covid cases reported on Saturday in UK, off the record high of yesterday by around d 3,000 Number of deaths with Covid reported at 125, down slightly from a week ago. Now 7 reported deaths with Omicron. Despite numerous requests the government have still to confirm the details from the first reported death some 6 days ago, despite a report from a LBC phone in saying it was an unvaccinated male in his 70’s.
  9. Yes it used to be one of the main boasts when it first kicked off that “if we had the same type of problem as other countries then there would be hospital beds out on the streets” Then it was the infection numbers that were wrong and being covered up and we can only rely on the death numbers as they are harder to conceal. Once they started to fall then of course they were also false and being covered up and easy to manipulate. The latest is to represent deaths in the UK as being caused by Omicron when there is no evidence yet that any of the seven were caused by Omicron, only that they died with Omicron. Not surprisingly, the UK Government despite promising otherwise, has still not published the real cause of the first death after six days, his age, or his vaccination status although a supposed relative of the deceased claimed he was in his 70s and not vaccinated. No doubt Thailand will see a wave come soon and I’m sure the pencils are already being sharpened in anticipation.
  10. Yes I guess we will have to wait until that time before we can start believing the numbers again.
  11. Just over 90, 000 new Covid cases reported on Saturday in UK, off the record high of yesterday by around d 3,000 Number of deaths with Covid reported at 125, down slightly from a week ago. Despite numerous requests the government have still to confirm the details from the first reported death some 5 days ago, despite a report saying it was an unvaccinated male in his 70’s. Rumours of a circuit breaker have so far failed to materialise so far. A government adviser said a “circuit breaker” lockdown after Christmas would be “probably too late” and “we need to act now” to head off a huge surge of infections. Stephen Reicher, a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), said plan B measures alone would not be enough. Of course Johnson will not call one before Xmas as he would have to recall Parliament to discuss it as he promised the other day as one of the conditions his backbenchers forced him into, and they have just broke for xmas break, and added to that he will not want to aggravate them further following the mauling they gave him with the Plan B vote So inevitably by the time it may get implemented effect it will be “probably too late” and be watered down.
  12. Good news this thread remains so quiet as it means there are currently no big break outs of local Omicron infections and no increase in imported reported cases for a few days remaining in single figures. Latest figures from worldometer show a continued fall in both infections and deaths over the past day at 18% and 7% respectively. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table 88 Thailand 24,717 30,139 -18% 353 215 232 -7% 3 70,055,541
  13. “Nong Khai, which shares a border with Laos, will be the first province to open to travelers under the Test & Go program.” So one assumes they will enter under the same conditions that are currently in place.
  14. Everyone’s experience seems to differ. First of all, sorry to hear about your Mum, worst nightmare when you live so far away. My BA experience was on an old plane, uncomfortable old plastic style seats where you could feel the metal through. Service wise, ok food but the service overnight was non existent and was based on a help yourself to whatever they left out, no snack or drinks service from the hosts. In fact I dont know where they all disappeared to. I rarely sleep on planes and I never saw anyone all night. Entertainment system was poor, extremely outdated. One thing I agree with you that I experienced too was when I stuck offshore through no fault of my own and missed both my domestic flight to London and onwards to BKK. Spoke to the customer service lady at Aberdeen and clicked away an within a minute or so said the night flight was full but they could get me on a plane to BKK via Hong Kong. She was very apologetic that it was all she could offer. I jumped at it and was ready and happy to pay the difference too. She proceeded to print off the tickets for when handed them over apologised again and said no extra cost. That was cattle class and when I looked on Skyscanner the flight was around an extra £300over what I had originally paid. So excellent service at that time and most appreciated.
  15. Would be of no surprise if it were true. Johnson conveniently needed a headline grabber to divert attention away from his own miserable leadership problems and his own party turning their back on him so was perfect timing. They said at the last briefing the details would be released at the end of the week so why are they still not in the public domain.
  16. Probably the worst direct flight from the UK out of the bunch and generally most expensive. No loss.
  17. Yes it’s a shame that people like yourself are now going to potentially suffer as a result of an all out attack on the booster. I too know of someone else waiting for heart surgery that keeps getting delayed as well as people who need hip and knee replacements. Of they die of anything else it’s likely it will end up on the Covid numbers somewhere so the real problem gets covered up. They are trying to go as fast as they can but cannot make up for the slowish start where there was a 2-3 week window when the first data came out before they started to seriously organise and get going. Now with each jab taking around 10 days before really kicking in there are a lot of potential cases which may have been avoided if they had acted sooner. Its no slight on the NHS and all the volunteer. They will as always do a wonderful job and try and minimise the impact from a leaderless Government in turmoil with no direction, no credibility who are just out to save their own skin and I’m survival mode without thinking of the bigger picture.
  18. Pretty clear image caught on CCTV so here’s hoping.
  19. Encouraging report https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/excess-deaths-remain-flat-south-africa-sparking-hope-omicron/
  20. @Macrohistory still persisting with the trolling “laughing” emojis on mine and every other post that has a different view I see.
  21. Well said. Before someone says it, you have as much to post your views as anyone else so carry on. It’s as if people want to live in fear and not content with that want everyone else too as well and get upset and post negative comments if everyone doesn’t agree with their pessimistic view of life. All this when there’s only nine confirmed cases so far in Thailand. You can see imagine some people hitting the refresh button waiting for the next alarmist headline to share. As you say, it’s here to stay. If you are reasonable healthy you have little to worry about. If you have pre existing or very old then either stay at home or rake the relative extra precautions. What is the world coming too when people get upset about kids playing outside without a face covering on. Hysterical nonsense.
