  1. “Excess deaths in Gauteng province [the epicentre of the outbreak] remain at almost negligible levels. There is still no strong excess natural mortality signal from Gauteng. “There has been extensive speculation as to whether there has been a decoupling between infections, hospitalisations and deaths and while we might still benefit from a few more weeks of data, the evidence is certainly pointing that direction,” he said. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/excess-deaths-remain-flat-south-africa-sparking-hope-omicron/
  2. For the benefit of slow learners who hadn’t noticed , it’s now called ASEAN NOW
  3. I wouldn’t worry too much, he’s not even noticed TVF no longer exists and it’s now called AN.
  4. Professor criticises lack of transparency and alarmism. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10305417/Fury-lack-transparency-UKs-Omicron-death-victim-fully-jabbed-vulnerable.html “The average age of death of Covid is 82.5 so a lot of 82-year-old people die in a year, at any one time,' he said. 'No details have been released, I suspect it's just some old boy that's tested positive, he may have died in his sleep or with a heart attack, who knows?”
  5. Johnson “overreacting and creating “hysteria” over Omicron https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-boris-johnson-over-reacting-to-omicron-and-creating-hysteria-south-african-doctor-dr-angelique-coetzee-says-12495876
  6. It’s that serious that social distancing measures have not even been reintroduced as part of Plan B, Xmas parties are still allowed along with pubs remaining open where no face coverings are required and nightclubs remain open for all to enjoy. Hardly surprising 100 members of his own party don’t even believe the hype.
  7. Exactly, headline grabbing timely announced to deflect attention from the mess Johnson finds himself in. Over 100 of his own party voted against some of the additional measures voted for in the commons.
  8. It’s not just the likes of the BBC. You can also read the same type of sensationalism and fearmongering rhetoric used by posters on forums like this, day in and day out. I wonder what their agenda may be. ????
  9. Surprised you need to ask ???? Another good day of data and declines from worldometer in terms of both infection rates and deaths over the past week showing another fall of 20% and 2% respectively. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table 91 Thailand 26,803 33,675 -20% 383 228 232 -2% 3 70,053,632 Thailand continues to perform well as opposed to Vietnam who continue to show an increase.
  10. “Omicron cases were spreading overseas and Britain recorded a fatality caused by the new COVID-19” Poorly worded and potentially misleading. As far as I am aware no one has yet reported the death was caused by Omicron, only the person died with Omicron
  11. Correct. If you look at the queues it’s predominately made up of younger people trying to plan ahead for Xmas and New year in the knowledge that Boris the Baffoon will attempt to bring in more diversionary tactics to deflect from the mess he and his party find themselves in. One of his licking boys Javid said yesterday that the booster will be required shortly to enter nightclubs etc so just sends out more panic and hysteria messaging in addition to the conveniently announced death with Covid headline yesterday. It’s that much of an emergency that they haven’t even re introduced socially distance measures as part of Plan B or prevented any Xmas parties taking place. The uptake on face coverings is weak and not being enforced. It’s all just a smokescreen. Let’s be honest, it would be a bit difficult knowing they themselves had Xmas parties and mixed last year when everyone else was told not to and sadly some watched their loved ones die from a distance and couldnt even attend their funerals. Most people, even his own backbenchers, can see through what he is doing. Sadly the Labour Party will help him do whatever he wants and get his changes through rather than give him a bloody nose.
  12. The media and the doomsayers love a good headline grab using terms like “tsunami “ and “tidal wave” to describe potential events. Then you have Boris using phrases in his address like we are in an “emergency situation” then contradicts himself with things like work from home but you can have a Xmas parties, Xmas concerts, and large gatherings can continue including nightclubs so he’s lost all credibility and backpedaling all the time due to last years shenanigans, where he and his cronies decided that despite all his preaching they could basically do whatever they want. In addition he’s got all his backbench mob threatening to revolt if he tries to impose any more restrictions.
  13. Guessed that was the case when the headline was that one person had died in the UK “with” Omicron as opposed to “from” More sensationalism and hysteria.
  14. Agree with the vast majority with “Significance overblown”. Nothing reported so far serious cause for concern, just a lot of overreaction and dramatics.
  15. Very careful with their wording announcing one person has died in the UK “with” Omicron as opposed to “from” More dramatic headlines without the full facts of the death.
  16. More positive data from Thailand showing further declines in both infections and deaths of 20% and 4% respectively over past week. 94 Thailand 27,405 34,428 -20% 391 227 237 -4% 3 70,053,155 Testament to how well Thailand is currently handling the situation that the focus, even on this Thailand thread, has switched to the Omicron situation in the UK. Let’s hope they continue the good work.
  17. Are you only allowed to post if you have negative views or are willing to jump on the ‘scam’ ‘sounds dodgy’ bandwagon then? One could also ask why anyone would want to come onto a public forum post a “laughing” emoji against a story where a 44 year old man has died and a grieving family appeal for help, but sadly some do.
  18. Clearly you wouldn’t, but there are those that are happy to help out during the families time of grief without the usual interrogation, pre judgement and guesswork shown on this forum. Its not compulsory so you and others can relax and maybe leave others to share a thought of a grieving family at Xmas time.
  19. Over 30 years in Oil industry, onshore Refineries or Offshore Rigs. When is/was the right time to retire? Difficult one as everyone’s financial needs and outlook is different. Personally i wouldn’t want to continue to work in Thailand as a financial requirement, in one shape or another, unless it was a hobby or but each to their own.
  20. I enjoyed Death Wish 1, but 2&3 not so much.
  21. There Is no comparison as you correctly highlight. Lots of wasted young lives as a result of the appalling road death stats as opposed to that of extremely old with pre existing conditions mainly affected by Covid. Sadly it’s the younger generation who are sadly being affected by Covid too in many other ways due to the over reactive and disproportionate measures being taken
  22. This is a Thailand thread. Just over 20,000 mainly very old or pre existing conditions. Of course every one is a sad loss but the focus and “banging on” is disproportionate to the other important issues such as highlighted in this thread re road deaths.
