Have you installed the BYD dash-cam? Could you work from that video feed, as it is obviously a fixed view? might need some practice to get a reference point established.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

This is one of the really good developments for a big city like BKK - more electric taxis! Now lets go for motorsai next......... -
Chinese EV's set to disrupt Thai Automarket
mistral53 replied to CharlieH's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
It's the former, all EV's get the incentive, and it goes to the importer, presumably with a lot of red tape involved. Does not change the bottom line to the buyer, we get a heck of a deal right now, but I am not sure how much longer this program will be in effect. -
I say fokk the neighbors and park backwards, problem solved. I mean - what is more important, your car or your neighbors????

Chinese EV's set to disrupt Thai Automarket

I jumped on one of the Chinese imports because it has no import taxes, and the Thai government handed me a check of THB 150,000 for buying this Chinese made car........ and I love what I got to pieces - what's not to like about value for the money? BTW - reservations after 4 days at the Car Expo shows 6 Chinese brands in the first 10......... gawd that sucks! -
Chinese EV's set to disrupt Thai Automarket

Not only the Thai Auto-market - the Japanese seem mighty impressed by the BYD Seal they tore down. Gone are the times when Chinese cars were mere copies of legacy tech, in EV's they are clearly in the lead together with Tesla, and judging by the development tempo and innovation, disruption is just the beginning. https://project.nikkeibp.co.jp/mirai/byd_seal/all/ -
Am I the only one who has this recurring visit from a fat Tukai, especially when he has diarrhea??? Gawd I hate the bastard!! I already put mothballs in every nook and cranny under the carport roof and rafters - to no avail, he insist to use that particular spot for his almost daily 'gifts'....... truth is, he is one of the main reasons I got the car ceramic coated! Recurring thoughts of murder are creeping into my tranquil existence.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

I was at the Car Expo yesterday, and the reservation stats of the 2 first days confirm the traffic - Changan had by far the most crowded booth. -
Rate Charging Suppliers based on ease of use?
mistral53 replied to Greenside's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I used EleXA for a quick top up for the first time yesterday - and it was Tesla quick......... plug in, select charging level on app (I set it to 40%) confirm, wait for about 30 sec for comm to establish - and it started charging. Ramping up to 120 kW in less than a minute, charged to the selected 40% in 8 minutes, during which time I helped a first-time user on the second cable to get his Good Cat refilled, unplugged, paid, drove off. BTW - in that order! I paid after I charged, via QR code and bank app - that rocks! Last but not least - got the tax invoice for my records in my email within minutes. -
You know - this made me crack up, so I was not the only one.......... I got the information how to access that little gem - from all places I despise the most! ...........FB! Its in the turn signal stalk: the button on the tip of the stalk, toggle through trip and odo..........gawd I was so relieved to have finally found it.

Is yours also a 3.8s? I never even come close to seeing anything over 570 km of range on the dynamic GOM. My calculation is actual, i.e. distance driven (from trip meter) and battery % indicator. BTW - this is the last screenshot of the consumption indicator: 15.9 kWh/100 km for the last 50 km. This computes to almost the exact WLTP range - or 518.9 km. My actual consumption was 19.9 kWh/100 km. The consumption information on Chinese cars is one of the shortcomings compared to a Tesla - and it pains me to say this - hopefully someday BYD will copy the clear software leader of electrical cars!

ABB monthly report for November - this is what the energy geek in me likes: (I have to tweak the energy prices again, but since they yo-yo all over the place, why bother?)
-
Did you calculate your range? Could you have done the complete journey without adding 'gas'? We just did another BKK - HH round trip and I have to admit, I am a little shocked to not have been able to do it this time, I had to add 7% juice on the way, assuming the range indicator is linear. (added 16% and had 9% remaining per attached pic) This would put the range to around 413 km - a bit disappointing. The effective range could be a little higher, because the last 25 km I floored it a few times to make sure the SOC would be below 10% when we reached home - but the range is nowhere near mid 400's. Now I am ready to do the mandatory 10 to 100% charging cycle to allow cell balancing if it is necessary. As for the religious gobbledygook, do you think I should have driven around the block a couple more times to make the trip odometer tick over from the death tetraphobia multiple..........

Yesterday I perused 'our' BYD dealer's FB page, and could not believe the number of cars they handed over to customers - mostly Dolphins and Atto 3s, but also quite a few Seals. It's a massive dealership, but the traffic must make the owner smile all the way to the bank.......did I hear a happy jingle a lingle a ting? The flip side is, service suffers, they are simply overwhelmed. BYD is expanding so rapidly worldwide, so not surprisingly, their ratings in China are in the toilet.

Since my dealer has been useless on the subject of the firmware update, I have been bugging BYD Rever about the outstanding OTA to turn off the ice cream truck sound. This is what they finally answered: Firstly, we wish to inform you that the Over-The-Air (OTA) update is scheduled for release in November, and you will be duly notified once it becomes available. We strongly recommend your patience in awaiting the impending update. Meanwhile, as we prepare for the update, we kindly request your cooperation in providing the following information to ascertain your ownership of the vehicle. This information will enable us to coordinate with relevant agencies effectively: 1. Full Name: 2. Phone Number: 3. Registered Email: 4. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): 5. Model-Sub Model: 6. Dealer's Name: 7. License Plate Number: There is budding hope, something will finally move........albeit November is just a few more days

The top line model in China has this feature, I have not heard anybody outside China testing the Seal mentioning this feature. It clearly is not on cars destined for Thailand, quite a shame.

I made a list of number of reasons that matter to me, than the gods of Internet connectivity decided against me posting it, so they deposited my verbal diarrhea somewhere in an electron dumpster........ good grief. Anyway - here is one of the simple recaps, statistics. The app will give me a good glimpse of what is really going on over time with charging and cost.
-
Are you able to connect the app via your WiFi to the charger? I had it connected and it responded for a few days, but now has quit to recognize any of my routers, even though it shows WiFi is set up......... frustrating! Bluetooth works fine, but that means I have to get up form my air-conditioned office to manipulate he charger........what an inconvenience!

They are also about 1/3 the weight and size of a lead acid battery, cost 3 times more, completely maintenance free. Clearly sets the BYD Seal apart from many other EV's.
-
Thanks for the link, some good stuff - and the guy elevates the annoying Thai squeeecky voice to another level yet........lol Did I understand that right - the 12V battery is Li-Ion, not the ordinary lead acid car battery?
-
BTW - did you know that you should also break-in the speakers? from one audiophile Internet source: 'How Long To Break In Speakers? Be patient. It can 20-30 hours for new speakers to break in and reach their full potential. Don't be discouraged if they don't sound perfect from the start - give them some time and they'll eventually reach that point.' Begs the question - when car testers comment on the audio of a car, were the speakers properly broken in? or was there one ghetto blaster first in line, cranking the system to 150 and trashing the sound speakers before they ever had a chance to develop their full potential? Do you care? or do you rather hum your own tunes........?

I am probably the dummy here for not conveying my suggestion properly: The default screen shows Spotify, radio and navigation. I don't use Spotify, so I replaced it with the phone app, could be anything else you find more desirable from page 2 or 3. So Spotify went to the trash, then I moved the phone app into its place just like you can move apps on an android tablet. Btw - Spotify is still present on the second page, so it could be placed back at anytime. For non android users - tiles are manipulated by 'holding them down' until they become malleable. BTW2: This is not even scratching the surface - if you wish, you can load android apps until the cows come home...........lol
-
For those that are also not enamored by the infotainment default set-up, let me remind you that the basic MUI is based on android, hence can be manipulated just like it, e.g.......

Not in the first couple of hundred meters.......lol
