Electric Vehicles in Thailand
mistral53 replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
This wont work. 7000/230 = 30.5 Amp. A 3.7 Kw charger would look better on your supply. If you are charging on the grid only, it might behoove you to have the TOU meter installed to get lower rates at night, possibly also a higher supply rating. As much as I despise Zuck's spy app, here in Thailand it is probably the best place to get a good overview of how to proceed with your project. The problem is not that we are too poor, we are too old! Based on this table it is obvious most of us would do very well if we were a lot younger..........like less than 35 yo! I also agree that there should be a column for the size of the dong of the head of the family - please amend, it would infuse some badly needed perspective to what is important in life!

There was an even more optimistic if not totally misleading information on various publications of a THB 50,000 cost of insurance to be included when financing. Verbal gymnastics at its best. I believe or hope the quoted premium I got is based on grey imports, the price of which was almost twice of what the official Tesla selling price is at the moment. Just imagine how many of the 7,700 orders Tesla has on the books now in Thailand would get wiped out if insuring the Tesla low end models goes for a spicy 100K THB a year. -

I just got an insurance quote from my broker for the M3 LR: THB 91,313.80 for a first class insurance, replacement value at 1.7 mio.........., apparently at the moment almost not insurance underwriter wants to do Tesla's in Thailand. This is almost double of what I pay for a much more expensive Mercedes! If there is anybody on here in the same boat with a better premium, I am very interested to hear about it. -
Sounds to me you are making your life unnecessarily difficult.........but there is some enjoyment in that, too, I guess. To wit, charging a 50KWh battery at 7 KW is more like coasting than stressing. Don't forget that max recuperating is probably several times 7 KW.........just sayin'. DC fast charging is a different pony, so if you can get around doing that each time, that could possibly be beneficial. One more thing that most people get wrong - the wall 'charger' or the granny 'charger' are not really chargers at all - they are fancy switches to start and stop the charging process, nothing more. The fancy stuff happens in the on-board charger in the car - change voltage, invert AC to DC etc.

The MG wall charger has both options - card or just 'connect and go' (programmed by iSmart via bluetooth) There is a function to operate the charger via iSmart, but I found that option useless for my needs. I use the MG wall charger for the MG and a MB PHEV - works like a charm. -

My order has not progressed much, but there is word on the street that: -The film is not paid for, not free. -Insurance. Cash. Pay by yourself. Pay by installments. -Wall charge, pay by yourself. -Register and pay for it yourself. It seems all the freebees usually included for new car buyers are not included with the unique Tesla sales approach. -
Sometimes the verbal diarrhea coming out of these rags probably has more to do with word counts and fiction, then actual reality - case in point: ' Tesla attempts to offer the bleeding edge of software innovation......' has a fantastic ring to it, but is hardly factual. Tesla still does not have a 360 camera view that is quite common in many vehicles, which everybody who has it in a vehicle will attest is much more useful than the ability to make a fart noise. Or self parking - a really useful feature available in many cars - Tesla is woefully lacking with their laughable attempt......and the list goes on. Tesla is unsurpassed in some of the technologies they put in their cars, but they are not nearly as god-like as the Tesla-fanboys want to believe. For context: I am one of the many thousands that have a Tesla on order - but only because the BYD Seal has no delivery date for Thailand.

I ordered the Model 3 LR - delivery is indicated 'within 6 months of order confirmation', so it could be as late as middle of June 2023. But I have to test drive it first, if the ride is as 'wooden' as many commenters on YT indicate, it would be a 'no go' for me. -
How is it possible that mail from Thailand to the US takes almost 3 months, registered mail no less? I got the second notice today, but I also have tracking information that shows the mail was delivered........

Russian Soldiers Are Freezing To Death In Eastern Ukraine
mistral53 replied to Scott's topic in World News
All the hate for Putin is understandable - what the hater's don't properly appreciate is that there are a lot of more radical individuals waiting in the wings, we better hope and pray Putin will be in power for a while in Russia, and not the more radical hot heads. -

As you said..... 'stories'. Actually, from the pictures and vids I have seen on TG, the Chechen are at least as well, if not better equipped - Kadyrov will see to that. -

Really?! Somebody else fell for the marvelous Ukrainian propaganda..........lol If there is anything the Russian army will excel in is their winter gear - but hey, if it fits your narrative, lets believe what we want tot believe and be happy. -
anyone using faster then 1 gigabyte internet ?
mistral53 replied to genobkk's topic in IT and Computers
Surprised about the fixation with speed - if your Ping is 50ms, all the speed in the world will not make you happy except when down/up loading large files. For everyday Internet use it's much more important to have minimal latency to get fast page loads - not Gigbit speed records. -
From Wikipedia: 'Falun Gong operates at least two organizations in the United States and elsewhere, which have received notable media attention for their political involvement and ideological messaging, particularly since the involvement of these extensions in the 2016 United States presidential election. Falun Gong extensions include The Epoch Times, a politically far-right[20] media entity that has received significant attention for promoting conspiracy theories, such as QAnon and anti-vaccine misinformation, and producing advertisements for former U.S. President Donald Trump' I would say this is usual Wikipedia rubbish - but honestly, so is your comment.

I wonder whether this is a typo - I did not see any pictures or details to confirm it is indeed 'all-wheel' drive.........although it is mentioned in several places on the MG website. -

OK - I took the plunge and watched the clip.......... did you watch it, or what happened between what you saw and what you wanted to see/hear? He points out the difference between NEDC and WLTP, complains about the touch screen integrated A/C controls (couldn't agree more! that is idiotic, but not unusual these days) but other than that, it is very favorable review........... e.g. 'this looks and feels every bit like a premium car inside' - his words, not mine! My suggestion: Watch the clip again, but first turn off your biases........just listen, watch with an open mind. Then please report back with a summary. -

All the reviews I watched on YT were at best lukewarm on the Toyota (or Subaru twin), none of the testers outright recommended this EV. Of course it is a Toyota, the nameplate will still sell a bunch, negative press notwithstanding. -

I hope you understand that per-capita income has absolutely nothing to do with how well off the average pleb is - as with most statistics, they serve a designed purpose, but never the stated description. -

Volvo has never been a mainstream brand, it has been and probably always will be a niche product. Stands to reason that due to their Chinese parent company and the common platform (SEA) the marketing appeal could broaden, but I venture to guess that Geely will want to use the Volvo brand as their exclusive, high end vehicle.
