  1. You just made this up, right? or maybe I misread........... ..........'as BYD is not able to talk to your EV' - how exactly do you think you get information about your car on your BYD app? or turn your AC on or off? BYD could very well do the OTA update without WIFI, why they chose not to is anybody's guess, maybe they are afraid to be hassled when using the network data plan? That would not be a problem for most - in my case, I use less than 20% of the 2GB monthly data allocation.
  2. Its obvious to me (by the 3.8 sec acceleration capability and the max power reading of 390 kW)) that the car is essentially 4WD, but not in all conditions. I would think that BYD has tested the snow scenario, too - how this slipped by their testing for the final product is unbelievable. Maybe it's just an export problem? But as one commenter pointed out - maybe the car will start to under steer more if the patch is not properly tuned?
  3. I saw on YT that 'down-under' they got a new OTA to 2401, I am still on 2310 - what SW version are you guys on? link to the clip:
  4. I agree - the car is way 'under-tired', but I suppose the focus was on maximizing the driving range. On FB are lots of wheel-tire upgrade comments, the bigger combos are around 255's on 20 inch wheels. However, the loss of range penalty is massive. Moreover, the wheels I have seen on most of the upgrades are probably not adequate for the heavy car - there is a reason the OEM wheels weigh a ton! I plan on consulting a local tire expert on whether the OEM wheels will accommodate a 245 tire - its not much, but every bit counts. I think the OEM wheels are 8" wide, and the 245 is ideal on 9" - if the wheels are 8.5", I would try the 245's. As for the traction control cutting in so hard - the trade off would be a softer take off, but I suppose with that solution everybody would complain the car is not snappy enough.........lol I take it you have the iTAC turned on? Have you experimented with iTAC off? Idiot_driver.mp4
  5. Does anybody else follow this company on FB? Quite impressive what they do with their EV tear downs to become a 3rd party service center. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095486864026 Interesting tidbit on BYD: although BYD is known for being heavily vertically integrated, they don't shy away from using 3rd party systems (this one is the Atto 3) even more strange is that they marry ZF and their own sub-assembly together. And for the haters: ZF is a well known, high quality German company - how does that fit into the narrative of cheap Chinese cars? 😇
  6. Couple of questions: 1. Do the retaining holes of the driver side floor mat fit and clip into place? in my case, the floor mat holes are too small and cant clip into the pins, so the mat constantly moves. 2. Do your cars make a 'farting noise' around 150km/h? I read this in a few forums on FB, so it seems to be pretty common. Cant believe in this day and age this could happen, although one guess is that the airflow is so maxed out to get to the cd 0.219, it probably takes next to nothing to lose the optimized air flow somewhere....... my guess is the leading edge of the roof glass. 3. Do you follow the charging instructions per manual? always to 100%? and 10 to 100% every couple months? Because I charge from solar, I prefer to charge just for a few hours every day, but maybe that is not ideal.........
  7. You are funny - where's there an 8, 10, 15 mile stretch to run at 305 km/h? That's what I thought, so the range point you alluded to is totally irrelevant. On a more technical note, it is an impressive feat and needs crazy over-engineering for just bragging rights - for an electric car motor to sustain full power and battery drain for anything more than a few seconds is nothing short of a miracle, especially because BYD is using LFP batteries for this supercar. Unfortunately the interior of this car is a disaster - by far the worst design of any BYD vehicle of recent production.......... what were they thinking???
  8. Not too shabby for a lap-top battery producer.........lol YANGWANG U9 EV supercar—Top Speed of 192 mph (305+ km/h) Blistering 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.36 2024-0~1.MP4
  9. Did anybody see this? On the BYD Dolphin model, but also available for the Seal: 'All EV Service' is making progress 'hacking' some display details, pretty cool - albeit, EPA is not useful, but that is known in the industry. I would like to have the WLTP range shown. instead of the CLTC.
  10. Interesting story and happy ending........ good to hear! There is one little morsel in your post that triggered me for an entirely different reason......... 'I actually didn’t mind adding another 450 km to my Seal odometer' - implying your car was sitting in your car-port fully charged? With an ICE powered car, being low on fuel and an emergency like this comes up would not even make you think for a sec - with an electric vehicle and low battery, it could become quite embarrassing rather quickly. Do you guys really keep your battery close to the max all the time? or rather, have a second car as emergency back-up on hand?
  11. Does anybody plan on visiting the Bangkok EV Expo. touted as 'The very first electric vehicles exhibition in Thailand'? Feb 8 to 11. https://www.bangkokevexpo.com/
  12. Not that it matters to us at the moment in Thailand, but minus 33 deg Celsius is pretty cold for testing and EV:
  13. Who else is stoked about the Avatr 12 coming to Thailand? It's a Changan/CATL/Huawei joint venture......... yes, the Changan brand that is also bringing in the Deepal S07 and L07 already on sale here, which makes it somewhat plausible. Chatter on FB makes it a given sometimes in 2024, but it makes little sense, given the very limited market size. Conversely, if price projections of around THB 2.5 Million pan out, Tesla is toast - and I will get one! 😂 Needless to say, this is a serous contender, apart from being breathtakingly beautiful, it is choke-full of technology, probably a given with Huawei as a partner. Another interesting detail is the warranty in China: For the first owner, unlimited for battery and drive motors. Eat that - Tesla! Just some late night EV porn for the real connoisseur. For all others, it's either PornHub or ICE's.
  14. At least this is a common denominator all males are experts in............. unlike electric cars! 😂🤣
  15. Is this just a seasonal outlier or is Tesla really so far off the charts now?
  16. OTA 1.1 has arrived - has anybody already installed it? The Changan Deepal is on display in a shopping mall near us - sat in it and played a little with the infotainment, wow......just wow! BYD needs to get their act together to keep up with this offering. Charging has all the functions like limiting power, programming charge time, max charge etc. 360 cameras have recording function, and the navigation looks like something from Google maps.........overall, nicely built cars. Less battery capacity, no 4WD, lesser suspension tech compared to Seal, but on par with the Atto 3. Frameless doors might not be to everybody's liking. Very attractive price, good competition, keeps everybody on their toes and will definitely eat into BYD sales.
  17. Just in case of surprise about the above stated consumption figure of 18 kWh/100 km, for reference a comparison table from a Thai 'tester'. Keep in mind that what he tested and what you might get could differ quite a bit, since testing parameters are not well defined and could change the indicated consumption significantly.
  18. I take it you are taking that range from the GOM, not actual distance? I did a Hua Hin to Bangkok return trip, with some heavy stop-and-go in Bangkok traffic - actual range was around 450 km (Performance version, Normal mode outside the city, Eco mode in the city) On a previous trip without the extensive BKK traffic crawling, I got over 510 actual km. Consumption after almost 5,000 km is 18 kWh/100 km - which computes to a theoretical range of 460 km, usable range of around 420 km (leaving a 10% battery buffer) After charging to 100%, the GOM also shows 580 km - it's feel good therapy I guess.
  19. Truly staggering, indeed. Do you think Biden will best Trump in this race to fuel the national debt? Looking at the US debt clock, as of this moment, the figure is 34.1 Trillion, and there is another 12 months to go. Neither of these clowns should be president.
  20. Ooohhhh wonders of technologies......... the Seal has one of the famed heat pumps to keep you cozy - simply run the AC system in reverse. So it's not a PTC heater of yore, which is very power hungry, but the nowadays industry standard heat pump. I would not be surprised if even the BYD Dolphin is equipped such.
  21. Did you guys check the software level before and after? For my 3 months/5000 km service, a software update was one thing I noticed..........apart from all the settings for the seat, AC, language etc they inadvertently changed........urrrggghhhhhh!
  22. Completely agree with you and @JBChiangRai - lots of folks don't understand brake blending. 150 kW is the max regen I have seen flashing on the display, when breaking from high speed and putting the binders on hard - which just so happens to be the max charging power the vehicle is designed for. This is what matters to me most, because it indicates a lot of energy is recuperated and not wasted in heating up the brake disks. Has anybody seen higher regen power? BTW - comparing braking performance, the best test I have seen as it is run under identical conditions.........result might surprise you
  23. Charging the amphibian: The owners manual suggests to charge to 100% is preferred. I am using solar to charge, so charging is usually distributed over several days, or just a few hours on some days. Are you guys following the instructions strictly? Has anybody done some research - will this affect the battery longevity negatively?
  24. Didn't we have another 'China Observer' thread a few days ago...........? Seems to me somebody is trying to get some additional clicks on this YT channel - this guy has found gold, making YT content to feed on the insecurities of a group of losers jealous of China's success.
  25. The BYD Seal and the Xiaomi SU7 are not even on the same planet, technology wise - that presumably will be reflected in the price. I would not be surprised if it is 50% higher than the Seal top model. The top performance version was modeled on the Tesla Plaid, so expect prices to be similar, albeit lower. Xiaomi is not entering the vehicle manufacturing field tip-toeing - they plan a full frontal assault...... watch out Tesla and BYD.
