  1. Yes , Thais are just as materialistic as us Westerners , probably more .
  2. Maybe the Buddhist way is best - give it all away ( or at least the surplus ) before you go . No assets = no responsibilities = feeling free .
  3. I blocked out the nos on my submitted docos and got my TR visa in 3 days , no problems . After all , why would they want to know your acc. no . and other details ?
  4. I agree , take a random sample of office girls from the BTS and dress them up , add make-up , and I guarantee they will look better .
  5. Yes , Council tax bill should be fine . Good idea to block out any sensitive nos on bank statements or anything else that could be used for identity theft .
  6. In the UK this has been a well used way of getting a return on investment , along with shares and bonds . The investment market in Thailand seems less well developed than in the UK / US / Europe , maybe less easy to buy and sell shares and ETfs , so maybe property rental could be an alternative . Anyone have any experience in this area . MTIA .
  7. Watch out for fees if you do this . My local solicitor charges £ 250 / hr + VAT . If you give them carte blanche to handle things on a " time incurred " basis , most of the estate might be eaten up in fees - receive a letter - ching , that`s another £ 150 gone , maybe more to send a letter . Better to get a fixed quote for sorting out an estate , some will do it on a % basis . Either way , if you have assets in the UK , it will be a problem for the average Thai person to sort out .
  8. I sent a pic of the last stamps in my p/p . That was from my last visit 3 years ago . That seemed like a better idea than uploading blank pages .
  9. I think the days of staying long-term on a TV are gone now . Using the border crossing to enter and get a 30 or 45 day stamp can only be done twice per calendar year .
  10. Agreed , £ 3000 worked for me also .
  11. Agreed - accommodation must be one of the best bargains . Thinking of a short holiday in the UK ?- that will be £ 70 -150 per night B+B . Compare that with travelling around Thailand staying in the roadside " resorts " , 350 - 700 bt per night .
  12. Thanks . I must have missed that . For anyone thinking of applying , these are the docs needed - flight booking hotel booking bank statement p/p last 2 pages p/p main page face photo photo holding open at main page p/p signed declaration confirmation letter proof of residency proof of identity inside leg measurement OK , I made that last one up ???? seems to get more difficult every year .
  13. I haven't noticed the problem in Patts , but where I live ( Udon ) I would avoid walking down my soi at night due to the aggressive dogs on guard outside every house . During the day they sleep , but come 6 pm they are out on duty hassling passers by .
  14. Just done this ( UK ) and received my letter of acceptance via e-mail which I have printed out onto a sheet of A4 paper . Do I need to present this along with my passport to the immigration officer at BKK , or will they know from the computer that I have a SETV and stamp me in for 60 days ? Many thanks
  15. Sorry , I should have made it clear that I did have a tourist visa . The check-in lady questioned why my return flight was more than 60 days after my arrival . She obviously did not really know anything about Thailand`s visa system .
  16. During the Covid crash , some property funds were temporarily closed due to the illiquid nature of the assets . It can take months to sell real estate so if lots of investors want their money out at the same time , this causes a problem . Stocks in very small companies can also be difficult to liquidate in a crisis . Still , I would expect most investors should have got back some money by now . Unless , of course , it`s all a scam ( the name sounds suspicious to me ).
  17. I am in the same position as the OP . Last time I did this , the check-in lady for the flight seemed to think this was a problem , and did not know about how stays could be extended using extensions and visa runs . Only after consultation with her supervisor did she allow me to proceed . I was quite annoyed having to argue with someone so ignorant who thought they knew better than me . Maybe I will check with the airline before departure this time , just to be sure .
  18. I think there is a dark underside to Thailand which many of us don`t see ( or don`t want to acknowledge ). That`s why I`m careful not to get into disputes with any locals . I live part of the year in Naglang and usually feel fairly safe , although I was surprised to see armed police on duty in the local bank - felt like something out of the Wild West .
  19. IIRC I was asked at check-in for the flight about why my return flight was a few months after the 60 day TV expired . It took a bit of persuasion to convince the grumpy check-in lady that I was not planning to do something illegal.
  20. I booked with Thai ( direct from UK LHR ) . It cost me £ 1050 return . There were some cheaper flights , ie. 800 ish , but these all had long stop-overs . Last time I came over was 2 - 3 years ago and it was half the price .
  21. In the application for the TV is states that a ticket out of the country within 60 days is a requirement ,so it doesn`t really help.
  22. That requirement for a ticket out after 60 days could be difficult - what about those of us who hope to stay 3-5 months and have a return ticket for those dates ?
  23. Perhaps someone should mention here that the border crossing at Mair Sai is not operational at the moment .
  24. I`m reluctant to do anything important on my mobile phone . I prefer to a laptop computer which has anti-virus software for banking and most e-mails . Some of the apps that are available for download to your phone contain info stealing viruses , so not worth the risk .
  25. Regarding the TM 30 . What happens if the hotel hasn`t done this . I often stay at smaller places and don`t have much confidence that they do this stuff . Last time I did an extension ( Udon ) I just filled in the address of the hotel and they never asked any questions .
