  1. Sorry , I should have made it clear that I did have a tourist visa . The check-in lady questioned why my return flight was more than 60 days after my arrival . She obviously did not really know anything about Thailand`s visa system .
  2. During the Covid crash , some property funds were temporarily closed due to the illiquid nature of the assets . It can take months to sell real estate so if lots of investors want their money out at the same time , this causes a problem . Stocks in very small companies can also be difficult to liquidate in a crisis . Still , I would expect most investors should have got back some money by now . Unless , of course , it`s all a scam ( the name sounds suspicious to me ).
  3. I am in the same position as the OP . Last time I did this , the check-in lady for the flight seemed to think this was a problem , and did not know about how stays could be extended using extensions and visa runs . Only after consultation with her supervisor did she allow me to proceed . I was quite annoyed having to argue with someone so ignorant who thought they knew better than me . Maybe I will check with the airline before departure this time , just to be sure .
  4. I think there is a dark underside to Thailand which many of us don`t see ( or don`t want to acknowledge ). That`s why I`m careful not to get into disputes with any locals . I live part of the year in Naglang and usually feel fairly safe , although I was surprised to see armed police on duty in the local bank - felt like something out of the Wild West .
  5. IIRC I was asked at check-in for the flight about why my return flight was a few months after the 60 day TV expired . It took a bit of persuasion to convince the grumpy check-in lady that I was not planning to do something illegal.
  6. I booked with Thai ( direct from UK LHR ) . It cost me £ 1050 return . There were some cheaper flights , ie. 800 ish , but these all had long stop-overs . Last time I came over was 2 - 3 years ago and it was half the price .
  7. In the application for the TV is states that a ticket out of the country within 60 days is a requirement ,so it doesn`t really help.
  8. That requirement for a ticket out after 60 days could be difficult - what about those of us who hope to stay 3-5 months and have a return ticket for those dates ?
  9. Perhaps someone should mention here that the border crossing at Mair Sai is not operational at the moment .
  10. I`m reluctant to do anything important on my mobile phone . I prefer to a laptop computer which has anti-virus software for banking and most e-mails . Some of the apps that are available for download to your phone contain info stealing viruses , so not worth the risk .
  11. Regarding the TM 30 . What happens if the hotel hasn`t done this . I often stay at smaller places and don`t have much confidence that they do this stuff . Last time I did an extension ( Udon ) I just filled in the address of the hotel and they never asked any questions .
  12. Thanks - good job I checked . I`ll have to have a look at the map and see where will be most convenient . My base is actually Udon , so maybe Nonghai would be ok .
  13. Hi , in previous years I have stayed in Chiang Rai and crossed the border at Mair Sai to give me 3-4 months stay ( using TV ) . Is the border open now again after Covid ? I read through recent posts but couldn`t find any info. on this . Thanks . Also , is the SETV the best option for me ? I am over 50 but don`t want to retire permanently to Thailand , just spend 5-6 months / year .
  14. I never encountered this until a couple of years ago , again in Pattaya . Small , newish hotel Central area , they asked for 500 upfront deposit . I thought it might be a scam so went elsewhere .
  15. All the policies I`ve looked at cover being tested + for covid , but exclude being put into quaranteen , so if this were to happen , you would have to pay yourself .
  16. Now travellers need a negative Covid test 48 hrs before travelling . Doesn`t have to be PCR , can be Antigen LF which should be cheaper . These are self testing , but I assume it will require a certificate and QR code to be accepted . Any idea if this sort of thing is widely available in Patts , or would it be better to buy a kit in the UK and self test and send the result via smartphone ? Thanks
  17. That`s very interesting , thanks . It could be a huge bonus for those that would like to liquidate assets , but have been reluctant to do so because of CGT . Inheritance tax is different though - much harder to avoid ( I`m not an expert , so just guessing ) .
  18. What happens if you want to travel around and not book a hotel in advance for the whole period ?
  19. If liability was limited to 10 x 4000 Bt , then at least it`s something to consider . I had read somewhere that a hospital stay might be required , and we all know the opportunity that presents for overcharging .
  20. Hi , been looking at a few policies in the UK , they all claim to cover covid ( so would be ok for the TP ) , but none tell you what would happen if you were forced to quaranteen because you sat next to someone who tested positive . I imagine this could be quite expensive - 10 days @ 10 , 000 / day . Any tips on the best policy to get ? Thankyou
  21. @ Alex 8912 ....I used to think that way , but over time , I`ve come to realise that from a Thai pov , allowing foreigners into the country is doing them a huge favour , so they should not complain about the rules ( even if they do make life difficult ).
  22. I have heard that if you live in Thailand and notify HMRC , you don`t need to file self assessment , is that correct ? If so , presumably income would not be subject to UK tax .
  23. Hi , I usually fly into Swampy , stay 1 night at a nearby hotel , then get the free shuttle bus to DM and take a Nok flight to Udon . Now everything is different , so I`m thinking of booking my T+G hotel near DM so it will be easy to get my Nok flight . Does this sound like a decent plan ? The other thing I`m doubtful about is the requirement to fly - on the Nok sight it says 2 docos are required - covid cert and a registration ? Not sure what that is , any ideas . Thankyou .
  24. I have heard that some banks will not allow accounts to function if the owner has no UK address - might be another good reason to keep a place in the UK .
  25. I know some airlines require a negative PCR before boarding , so , if a traveller tested + the day before his flight and a couple of days before his visa expired , would that result in an overstay and fine ?
