After a few years, the paint on the plastic always looks a bit different than on the steel. This is because of the way the different primers interact with the substrate and finish paint. It may or may not be more apparent on lighter colors, but as far as I can tell, it's always noticeable.

It's not the same as donating money to charity. It's fun for a lot of people, but it is a hideously regressive tax that really benefits no one. A few crumbs here and there to look good in the press.
