I would have chosen KL above Singapore and Hong Kong if it was just for the visa exemtion. KL is a great city with the best international kitchen in Asia, and also decent priced. You get more for your money in KL.

I only have problems with seasonal climate and pollution only. The cultural differences and lack of common sense can wear you down, so it is good to have the opportunity to take holidays from Thailand once or twice a year. Sad to say, the climate and pollution feels worse for every year now, and since Im not an indoor man, I need to be outside for most of the day to thrive and enjoy Thailand. It is a mix involving many ingredients. When you had your life experience with a woman, and do not have time to get to know the real her, you make up for the rest, and create your wanted image of her.
