  1. I understand everywhere they are trying to stop tax dodgers and get some money in the government coffers, but they should be more realistic about farangs living in Thailand on pension. For starters they want pensioners to show monthly income brought in Thailand at rate of around 60k baht a month for visa, then they say the tax free threshold is 60k a "year" ...!!!!? Doesn't make sense, that threshold is probably for locals, they should say for farang is at least 60k a month or even higher, this way they don't bother low income farangs, but catch the possible millionaire tax dodgers...!
  2. As your last sentence says, nobody really knows. We have to see how they audit farangs, and see the result, and not just one, but many, to get a feel for their exact logic...! This is many years away, I think most farangs, who do not earn in Thailand, won't fill up tax forms, and doubt many or any will be audited anytime soon, Thai taxmen are too busy collecting and auditing millions of locals, let alone farangs. This very law was brought in for billionaires who make a killing abroad in dodgy businesses and countries without paying tax abroad, then bring the money in and use it tax fee..., not a few pensioners living on 1000 pounds a month...! This will be the same tail as the other laws being enforced here, like buying land and houses using fake company, how many of those have they prosecuted yet...! Not many, despite all the propaganda... Of course the tax lawyers and consultants looking for clients make this like it's the end of the world...! 😜
  3. I have seen many posts saying anyone stay over 180 days and becomes tax resident must fill up form even with no tax to pay, see the very first post on this thread as a starter..., lots more on other threads and websites...
  4. I thought it was the amount transfered in each calender year from 1 Jan to 31 Dec that is taxed and analysed, and if not tax resident that year, then no form to fill up that year...! Unless once someone becomes tax resident, then he/she needs to carry on filing up tax form even if not there 180 days...!?
  5. This sounds good, so on their Thai tax form I can enter somewhere I transfered £10k and also somewhere that I say it was earned before 1/1/2024, so have zero tax to pay, and that would be the end of it...? And I would have statement to prove if they enquired further.... (well, no statement these days, but can get online printout....).
  6. Would this work if one is not staying for 180 days now, transfer enough to Thailand to live on for say 3 years, then after that leave for 180 days and during that time transfer again, and repeat...!? So no income transfered during tax resident period... Would the clever Sumachi taxman pick on that..., well, even if did, can be tax resident one year and not the next year, right...?
  7. I heard the same, but let's hear from others with first hand experience... For future reference I always make a color copy of the original and stick that copy on the bike, the original stays in my pocket, a bit safer that way...
  8. My point is how do they separate £1 from another. I could say this £1 I'm transferring was interest I received in 2014, the £1 I received for interest of 2024 is the other one I left it in my bank account...!!!! It's quite impractical to try to identify and isolate this "earned" date on long held accounts..., even 5 or 10 year from now, I could still say it was my salary I added to my saving account in 2014...!?
  9. How do they establish money was earned before 1/1/2024...? I have a saving bank account of say £10k, this has accumulated interest added over 20 years, now say in 2025 I transfer 1k from this account to Thailand. How would we establish what part of this money was earned after 1/1/2024 and what part was before.... (I know it's a small part due to low interest rate etc. but as an example). I don't understand this because many people earn and save over the years, then transfer from their accumulated saving....!?
  10. https://www.facebook.com/100064145438569/videos/848395020830051/?app=fbl It says it goes 100kph, I don't think I can be brave enough to trust that thing doing 100 on the road..., would you..? 😜 It's amazing technology though..., just keeping the balance and up right , useful for having a few beers and going home on this, no fine I guess... 🍻😅
  11. I think foreign registered bikes get 30 days permit on land entry to Thailand. I heard can extend this by another 30 days in some central customs office in big towns. After that must exit..., but check for yourself to be sure...
  12. I remember reading that if a bike or car flooded, don't start it immediately, this causes more damage when wet, leave it for a few days or a week in the sun to completely dry, then try..., so perhaps it depends..., was it dried well etc. Most problem is when water gets from the air filter further up into manifolds..., or all the way up from exhaust to valves, saying that I have seen scooters and bikes running in flood water nearly seat high, no problem..., they are built well these days....!
  13. I got a cheap local RR something for 900b from the shop, it worked very well for over a year till I sold the bike..., the Japanese Yuasa runs over 3500b+, but I don't think any of these last long in hot humid weather, buy cheap change more often...!
  14. If you are worried about the police and being fined for not having compulsory insurance, then I think the shop will give a contract of sale that probably is enough to say your waiting for them to finish the paperwork..., most cops should let you go..., some maybe more picky...! If you worry about having insurance that pays up if have an accident, I think need to leave the bike at home for a month until the paperwork arrive ...
  15. I have come across this before, in most cases the reason is they don't have the green book, either was bought in auction, or was repossesed by bank, and green book is on the way... Ask to see the green book, if they have it, then it maybe other docs needed from the above to arrive for transfer... If all docs are there they usually do it quickly and can give it to you to do as well, but as usual Thais don't tell the real reason for what they do..., they think farang don't understand and we think they are the same ...!!! lol
  16. I think I read somewhere after 3 years of not paying tax the green book and number plate is void, need to re-register the bike at DLT, pain in the neck...! I'm surprised you ignored it and not paid tax, it's very simple... I'm not saying that's the case here, but those who don't pay tax usually is because don't want to go for inspection because they have a dodgy exhaust or changed paint or something like that which fails inspection - one of my friends included (!) ..., they usually say forgot, but there's more to it..., if that's not you, then just go and do it, takes 5 min for inspection ..., + 15 min queue to pay tax at DLT...! P. S. I also think insurance company may not pay up when it comes to claims with no tax...!
  17. I wear prescription glasses, and hate full face helmets, so I buy modular flip up now, the last one I could put on and take off while wearing my glasses once flipped up. But it was noisy as hell, MT Atom, sold it and got LS2 Advent X, flip all the way back 180 degree, much better and quiteter, but can only take off while wearing glasses. Need to put glasses after putting them on, a bit of pain, but not too bad... I also have prescription sun glasses, but never use it with helmets, any half descent helmets these days has flipped down sun visor, very convenient..., even protect the face from sun burn a bit..., sun glasses won't.
  18. I'm surprised with your shoulder you can carry so much stuff, never even seen Thais carry so much... 😜 👍🏻 Forget doing any upgrade to Filano, even an easy lighter rollers change won't make it much better. Nmax surely gives more power, I have seen Aerox on same 155cc engine race me on Forza...! Although at lower speeds... Xmax is the answer to all your issues, can carry a lot more load on that too, and up the hills with ease..., but to make sure the shoulder can cope rent one for a few days and try. A used 2 or 3 years old with 10-15k km mileage will be cheaper than new and still under warranty, rides like new ..., I think Yamaha gives 5 years warranty unlike stingy Honda...!?
  19. Yes, I have had that with Honda in other places, if not bought from them they don't do service or warranty easily and say we are busy, don't have parts, must go to where bike was bought etc. etc. ...!
  20. Power of attorney needed without the seller, I used just one copy of docs, it was enough. Farang sellers in Phuket don't need certificate of residence, only buyers. I once transfered a bike to my name from a farang friend who left the country a week before, they noticed his visa expired a few days before I was in DLT Phuket, they picked on that, called the manger, he came and said where is he, I said left already, he said it's okay because it's only a few days....! Not sure if it was a month or more if it was a problem or not..., different offices different rules though...
  21. Let's get to the bottom of it, did they or you carried out a Covid test, using many of the usual test kits...? I doubt they do a Covid blood test, but did they say we found Covid in your blood test...? Simple really...., I'm afraid you can't feel Covid or diagnose it from symptoms... You did say you got Covid, but how do you know, please elaborate by saying you carried out a Covid test..., that's not hard to say...!
  22. Zontes even now has an ADV model, with on paper spec superior to Forza and ADV 350, but we need a lot more reports and feedbacks to see if it's as good in real life. Chinese bikes are actually survive the first year or two with no major issues, it's after that they might fail and cause problem. Although might lose a nut or bolt here or there, but nothing major early on... If there are dealers around to bring their spare parts, it will probably be cheap to maintain and repair, but I don't see many dealers...! Yet.
  23. I am sorry but I just re-read @xylophone post twice again and in no sentence he mentions that the hospital or doctor said he had Covid...!? Just that they took blood test and chest x-ray...! And he had very bad flu symptoms and condition. Please read again and copy/paste the section here for me to see where I missed it... No conspiracy it's just that Covid diagnosis needs a particular test to confirm it, that's all.
  24. @xylophone did you do a Covid test to be sure...? Because otherwise this could be any seasonal flu or chest infection...!
  25. I heard a neighbour had one, it was making a racket when starting and at normal operation, best to test drive properly before buying, and spare parts should be a concern unless near a dealer who can get them... A lot for sale after 1 or 2 years, and a lot lower price than new, not a good sign for a bike model...!
