  1. Sorry. In the Thai universe, this is penny-ante stuff. I'm surprised anybody noticed.
  2. My view right before the election was that PTP/Thaksin were the supreme campaigners and political maneuverers. And it's true. Nobody in Thailand can compare to them. They run circles around everyone else. I also feared, however, that PTP grabbing power would be bad for expatriates in particular. Prayuth basically left immigration alone--just the 400K year round maintenance, I think. He was a status quo politician. And for me, that's what I want. No changes. Now we're getting changes galore, and I can't see anywhere it's for the better, not only for expatriates but for average Thai people. And ultimately, it's their interests that count. And I think Prayuth was better. I now look at 2021 to 2022 as a sort of Golden Age in Thailand.
  3. If you guys constantly fixate on the weather, you're going to feel miserable.
  4. Just would like to see a few showers to cool off the roof tiles.
  5. Wait until Srettha taxes that charm school you operate.
  6. Everything was better: immigration, no taxes on foreign income, no open door for Russians and Chinese, and now this new parcel tax. Hell, even Thai foreign policy was better balanced between China and the West.
  7. Some even come with a punkha wallah.
  8. What's a vegetarian shelter? Is this some sort of place for broken down Hare Krishnas?
  9. Much fewer it seems than UK/European/Russian tourists.
  10. Or just buy a punkha and tie the cord around your big toe to operate it. Think of the savings!
  11. Compared to the rest of the people running the government, he's a piker.
  12. Don't know how old the British scammer is, but if I was a young guy, this looks just fine to me, with the benefit of the pharmacy and access to imodium on the ground floor.
  13. Or he just wanted to scam booking.com out of 7000 pounds.
  14. Ah, but the cutter is reusable.
  15. It did get better as it went on. The 1980 original, however, is better. First, in the role of Mariko, the stunningly beautiful Yoko Shimada with the anime eyes is so much better than squint-eyed robo-cheeks Anna Sawai. And it's so much more enjoyable to watch Richard Chamberlain, a real actor, master his role, instead of the grunts coming out of Cosmo Jarvis. The original Shogun, too, was shot in Japan. The photography makes use of high contrast color, instead of the low contrast grayscaling in the new Shogun, where every day in Japan is made to look cloudy or rainy just like Canada where it was shot. I'll not go into storytelling other than to note that the TV and filmmakers of 40-50 years ago realized that every scene, shot, and line had one purpose--advance the plot--instead of quizzically drawn out shots that wallow around for no purpose.

  17. She went down like a sack of potatoes.
  18. What I find silly is the overnight low I see in western Bangkok every night is 28. But you better enjoy it fast. Because as near as I can tell, it's only 28 for about five minutes or so before it climbs higher. Anyway, I suppose it's psychologically effective to think you're getting 28, even if it's gone in a flash.
  19. I do wonder if it is Willis Carrier who has had the greatest impact on the world. Maybe more than the Wright Brothers, Philo T. Farnsworth, or Robert Goddard???
  20. This is why these terrorist supporters need to go on the No Fly List. They are a threat to public safety.
