  1. If they want this story to be "their business alone," then maybe they shouldn't have gone to the press to publicize it. See the notice at the bottom of the story from which this AN topic originated? It reads: "Do you have a money story you’d like to share? Get in touch by emailing money( at)gbnews.uk." https://www.gbnews.com/money/cost-of-living-crisis-move-thailand-energy-bills
  2. Do a search on her. She is an activist. This isn't her first time in the news, complaining about energy and inflation. This is a PR stunt.
  3. So the government knows what apps are on phones. Does China even do this?
  4. Same. I now enjoy the smell of durian. And getting a perfect durian--is always an enjoyable hunt. Because some durians are better than others. Don't want one too hard. Don't want one overly slimy (although somewhat slimy is okay). Want one puffy and light, like biting into a pastry. As for the alcohol. I can't see the taste of wine or beer going much with durian.
  5. There has been a slow moving coup in Vietnam. Hardline pro-China generals (two police generals and an army general) have replaced the economic "liberals." The mass population of Vietnam may hate China, but the Communist Party sees it as the best way to retain their grip on power. That is what is important to them. More important than the South China Sea, economic dependency, and industrial growth. A lot of American companies relocated or are planning to relocate from China to Vietnam. They're still going to be playing into Chinese control. The US needs to reverse this daydream about a Vietnamese alliance and restructure all American investment and defense installations to the Philippines.
  6. She looks tougher than he does.
  7. When do we get a topic for the African samurai?
  8. I've had similar happen as well as the Meniere's. Hearing started fading on Saturday afternoon. I was in the doctor's office Monday morning when first opened. Got prescription for prednisone one week on, one week off, and another on. Things started to clear immediately. Hearing actually improved after this. Good to see you jumped on this and got the full diagnosis and treatment.
  9. Yes, yes, yes to this. There is treatment for this, but the longer you delay the worse the prospects for any chance of recovery. Get another opinion this afternoon.
  10. It was always going to happen, no matter what. And there will be a permanent basing of Chinese "technicians" at the submarine home port. Thailand will eventually base Chinese ships just like Cambodia has started doing.
  11. Every now and then, Thai film does come up with something very good and at the same time expressive of the culture. Last year's Once Upon a Star is a good example. People should take a look at it. It's set in 1970. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22696288/
  12. My wife buys them like this guy. She's never won anything. At all. Period.
  13. If you're in Bangkok, you might want to try the Eye Ear Nose Throat Hospital. It's just up the road from Central Pinklao. It has specialists, including a Meniere's specialist who saved my hearing, and the added benefit is that it is reasonably priced. I went to Bumrungrad initially and paid 24,000 for an appointment with initial hearing test. It cost me 4600 at EENT back in 2017. Not only that but Bumrungrad failed to diagnose my problem. In all the years I've been going to EENT, and I usually see my physician once every three months now, I've only seen one other Westerner there. The longest I've had to wait is one hour or so. I'm usually in to see the doctor within 30 minutes or so.
  14. Is that lifetime, or 20 year. I agree that 500K sounds a lot more reasonable, especially if you're one of those early applicants who I think (maybe wrong) got Elite good for your life. Frankly, I might even do that myself, if it were still possible--and for 500,000.
  15. That's true for every country in SEAsia. But it doesn't stop their leadership from aligning with China. Laos is all but a territorial annexation. Same for Cambodia and the new Chinese naval base there. I understand that the people of Vietnam dislike, distrust, and maybe even hate the Chinese. But the Communist Party in Vietnam is desperate to retain control. That's why I think you're seeing hardline generals push out the economic liberals. I believe it's a hopeless dream to think that any Indochina nation will break free of China's grasp. The only country poised to do that is the Philippines, which is where I think the US should shift virtually its entire focus, buildup, investment, and cooperation.
  16. Maybe you have a busy business schedule, where time means lots of money. But for me, it doesn't seem worth it to pay 1 million baht or whatever it is, to avoid a couple of hours at Chaengwattana one morning per year.
  17. Elon Musk's Neuralink is way ahead of the kid.
  18. I have Meniere's. The lead up to it was nausea, cold sweats, and dizziness. Then, the vertigo hit. Inner ear would fill with fluid, then pop and 2 to 3 hours of vertigo would commence. This went on from April 2017 to December 2017. Then, my hearing gradually went. All the time, I was on medication that eventually worked. Haven't had a vertigo episode since that December of 2017. Hearing cleared in 2018 to 2019. Now, I only have some dizziness when the weather changes. The point being: don't wait to see a specialist. I got treatment quickly. And I'm lucky. I'm basically okay. Some people with Meniere's end up in a wheelchair, because they lose all balance.
  19. Most of the way through Season 2 of Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. Not all that bad, actually. Enjoyable mainly because it is impossible to go over the top in portraying Truman Capote.
