  1. Well, I filed my 90 day report with Chaeng Wattana over three days ago. Got the email auto notification they received it almost immediately. But nothing since then. Whenever I check it's just "pending." Of course, now, it's too late to report by mail. I don't call this perfect.
  2. Clearing the deck of all domestic opponents in preparation for the invasion of Taiwan.
  3. Yes, it's the expectations. I just want to go to immigration with everything ready and prepared. No surprises. FWIW, I extended back in late August and only used copies of the passbook. It's for a locked Bangkok Bank account, where I maintain a minimum of 800K all year and have social security deposited to it monthly, along with a once yearly private annuity deposit--and of course IRS refunds and any stimulus type checks. Once every two months or so, I go in and withdraw everything above 805K and put it in my regular Bangkok Bank account. So the pages in the passbook are never consolidated and not even cluttered with a large amount of transactions.
  4. So as long as there is some monthly deposit/withdrawal a copy of the passbook is sufficient?
  5. In the US, at least, it's also the portions on the plate served up at restaurants.
  6. Thanks for this. There is some confusion. But it seems at the beginning that the Frenchman grabs hold and pulls the Thai towards him. The Thai responds. Then the rest ensues, with the Thai man left on the sidewalk with a skull fracture. THEN a non disputable crime occurs. The Frenchman nonchalantly walks away, puffs out his chest, and flees the scene of a accident/crime.
  7. Seri Thai did not begin to have the effectiveness of the Viet Minh or MPAJA. Read up on those movements. By the way, it's spelled Pearl Harbor, not Pearl Harbour.
  8. I agree with the gist of your post. But every now and then, the US does something right. Last Friday, the Biden administration imposed wide ranging chip export restrictions on China, especially concerning design tools. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/12/us-chip-export-restrictions-could-hobble-chinas-semiconductor-goals.html It's far more ranging and effective than Trump's tepid showroom tariffs or controls on things like Huawei. And God help Thailand if it tries to take advantage and serve as a false front for Chinese firms trying to import technology through Thailand.
  9. India is the real danger IMO. With India, the US is repeating the same mistake it made with China, with an even more massive amount of Indian H1Bs coming into the US than ever was the case with China. India is all but making a colony out of the US. Won't be long before India demands the US vote India's way in the UN.
  10. There are consequences for Thailand should it vote against Russia. The Russians make that clear all the time. So do the Chinese. There are no consequences for Thailand standing against the US and Europe. There never are, although with the huge trade surplus Thailand runs with the United States there could be. But the US acts like an empty suit. Won't do a thing.
  11. The UN votes 143 yea to 5 nay to condemn Russia's annexation referenda. 35 countries abstained. Thailand was one of the abstainers. Same day Putin is announced to come to APEC meeting in Bangkok.
  12. That's why I'm asking. If it was September for the mailout, shouldn't we have received it by now, if we're going to get it? Would be nice if SS had a confirmation site, wouldn't it?
  13. Anybody know of anyone who received a second, follow up letter after returning the first one back in July?
  14. Yes. Sort of. In 2011 my landlord moved all the electrical outlets up 60 cm. The flood came up to just shy of it.
  15. I think one of the things that has people angry is the smirk/grin on Anna Coren's face in the picture that caught them jumping over the police line. To emerge from the scene of a mass murder with blood still covering the place wearing such a triumphant smirk on her face for getting the "scoop" reveals character--or lack thereof.
  16. Isn't there a better way for SS to do this? Why not mail us the form with a personal code, which we can then return 1) via mail 2) on an SS website or 3) a telephone number where we punch in the code?
  17. Just called the USPS 1-800 number to ask about my registered letter to SS. After 40 minutes, I was told that registered mail is treated like regular first class mail and is untrackable. If I wanted to get guaranteed delivery (as in money back), then I needed to use priority mail. What is the equivalent of that in Thailand? Otherwise, he said it likely wouldn't be scanned and entered into the system. Nice enough people on the phone. Just a terrible system in the US.
  18. This is what happens when you deal with a Third Word postal system. And I don't mean ThaiPost.
  19. FWIW, I mailed my form registered mail on 13 July. Sometime around the end of July, I was notified it was in the US. Then, according to USPS tracking, it didn't move for about five weeks. Suddenly, in the second week of September, USPS notified me it had got to Jamaica on 24 July. Then, a couple of days ago, the tracking reported it was out of Jamaica in transit on 28 July. So my USPS notifications were two months behind where the mail actually was.
