Just to add, before we retired in 2019 I did the research in States and found a company in Austin TX that is owned by and invalid and everyone who works there has some mobility issue. The chair is called a Fold an Go. Its got 2 Lithium batteries and is FAA approved to fly. Total weight is 66 pounds, remove batteries and it is just under 20Kg, as a US Vet I got 10% discount and it cost 2500 USD. It has large drive wheels and is mud puddle proof. Drives via joy stock and has a horn. Wife only has use of left side. This thing will go 6.5 kilometers per hr and has a 32 kilometer range on full charge. She used it in California at some parks but almost ran some folks over. Frame is stainless powder coated...She hasn't used it here, I have put dog in my lap and done a few spins around the Moo Baan but her affliction is permanent and the day will come when she probably has to use it...hope for the best but prepare for the worst and roll on...

Have you ever gone more than 48 hours without sleep?
yankyoakum replied to Tayida's topic in Health and Medicine
Yes more than once, one time did 72 hrs 1985 in India on a brand new oil rig with major issues. Every other time was during catastrophic failures. Drank a lot of iced strong coffee with sugar and lemon in it and every 12 hrs took a shower and changed clothes. Now add to this being 3 decks down in stifling heat working on 1600 HP mud pump and rebuilding 7 ton crankshafts ... Finally around 2000 they made working more than 16 hrs forbidden... In the 70's I heard stories about guys doing it and thought it was BS.. Nope you do what you gotta do to get the rig running..Thank God those days are long gone.. -

Made a promise to wife, we will end our days here, also Thailand has improved whole lot in the last 50 years and USA has turned into a rats nest of Maga loving racists... not the top of the heap they think they are...

My Thai wife has been living with paralysis for 18 yrs. We have a manual wheel chair from US thats about 25 yrs old. Its heavy, also broke off one front wheel in front of US embassy in BKK few months back, the side walks are really badly cracked within 100 meters of the entrance.... She also feels embarrassed being seen in the chair. So thats not just you. I went to Fascino the other day to get BP meds and they had a nice assortment of wheelchairs. We bought a new one "Soma brand" thats alloy frame and pretty light weight, has hand brakes for anyone pushing and is really decent quality. I'm 70 and this is pretty easy to load in the car for me....My point to OP, get a good one thats light weight, be careful of 3 wheeled scooters, they can tip over. And don't be embarrassed , better to get out and about even in a chair than sitting at home. Roll on....

One more thing I forgot to mention is a good mattress. Over the years my back issues would get worse and eventually we would break down and buy a quality spring mattress. WE did that in Houston before retiring and threw some real good ones in Container.. That worked for us as wife returning Thai after 43 yrs was allowed one shipment duty free.. I'm sure there are probably good mattresses here but no idea where you'd find one..

X oilfield ad have lived with this since the 1980's, did Chiropractor, multiple MRI's and results from last one as well as degenerative discs, they had no kind words for anything from L5 to S7 I also have scoliosis. Before retiring in Thailand really good orthopedic surgeon told me until I can't live with the pain don't get surgery. It said it would be minor help at best.. I brought a Teeter inversion table to hang upside down when it gets bad..IE severe pain running from Butt down right leg.. Usually a stiff drink and hanging upside down will cause a loud POP...Agree with others that exercise and keep moving is best, I have a small pool and walk in it, bicycle my legs in the corner and try and do squats in bathroom holding a gab rail as well as 45 degree pushups.. Usually pain free unless do I something stupid, pick up a big Chinese flower pot to move where wife thinks it needs to be. The days of being 10 feet tall and bullet proof are long gone...

agree with parenting skills or lack there of, have not seen these edibles here in Thailand.. -
Sounds like you didn't have to assemble, everything we got over the years if we didn't "glue and screw" with contact cement I ended up taking it back apart and applying glue to all screw holes and seams where things butted together using a Q tip as brush/applicator. Once the piece was glued and screwed they rarely if ever come apart.....On making holes for pipes and other thing in back, learned long ago to stuff steel wool around the pipes. Keeps rats and mice from coming in as they refuse to touch steel wool. Hard to find here and have been using the stainless scrubby pads which seem to work real well.

We are in Bang Saray, American 70 with Thai wife 68 who had bad stroke 18 yrs ago. We been here 3 yrs now. You can hire a live in nurse for 20K baht a month. My wife suffers from Expressive Aphasia, lived in US for 43 yrs. We found a lady who speaks some English has drivers license and stays with us, she works 6 days a week, truthfully about 6 hrs a day. She has her own motor bike and gets food or small things at market. I was oilfield for 44 yrs, toxic <deleted>, hard life and doubt I will outlive my bride. Exactly why we are here, nobody is going to put her in a US nursing home after I am gone. I have little faith in my children, they have their own lives. Hospitals are good here and reasonable. Where ever you go, find high ground. Nothing less than 30 meters above sea level. CM is nasty hot in the summer (wifes from there) and being surrounded by mountains its like being in the bottom of a wok and breeze isn't much air pollution can't get out. Our meds, BP and other are cheap here, we eat well and enjoy the sea breeze, we're 50 meters above sea level east side of Sukumvit on a hill behind a small mountain.. WE chose the final stop wisely I think after being here 3 yrs.. Good luck to you.. My big issue revolve around my yearly retirement visa renewal. IMM at Jomtien have been quite good but last week I was disheartened at the mass of folks at IMM, many Russians trying to stay here and get visas. After very long wait in Q on a bad knee I gave up and had the visa service walk my paperwork through. Yea cost me 10,000 bt but my knee and hips were happy.

Well we came from Texas where the water gets way warm, here I just bit the bullet installed the pool and roofed the whole pool and put a ceiling fan in the middle to keep flys and bugs away.. Also fiberglass insulation in ceiling.. Ended up with 400 meters of 25mm black tubing on roof to warm it up a little. Get very little leaves or trash in pool.. Did this 2019 by coming here on tourist visa and then had to change to retirement. I used an agent in Chiangmai. But the thing I would highly suggest is before starting this, renew your passport. I had about 5 yrs left on mine but went ahead and renewed right before we departed USA.. The US Gov doesn't care if you renew before it expires..Aside from all you will need to do, its nice to know you got 10 years before screwing with passport issues...
