  1. Pretty sure the senate believes its job is to protect the country - not the people - from ruin. They see the country as a series of institutions that go back centuries. Democracy is not one of those institutions.
  2. The amount of jokes against Chinese available on the net means we should calm down when the same comes back.
  3. I cannot imagine how the govt will explain all this to ordinary Thais. Move Forward Spokesperson (MFS): "We are going to break up the beer monopoly here." People: "So you mean there is only one beer company in Thailand?" MFS: "No, we are talking about Boonrawd and ThaiBev." People: "Do you think we're stupid. That's a duopoly." MFS: "We want to break up the duopoly then." People: "And what about Thai Asia Pacific Brewery, Phuket Beer, Siam breweries and Klassik beer?" MFS: "As we said, we want to break up the, er, multi-thingame-opoly." People: "But we like watery Thai beer. Are you changing this because one or two people want to enter the market? Or because foreigners ordered you to? This is Thailand, you know?" MFS: "B*gger it, we want to introduce strong beers that will make everyone too drunk to see us muck up other things. OK?"
  4. This won't bother the superrich as they can move home when it rains.
  5. I do understand that Americans bandy the word treason around mainly because they cannot think of a stronger word or phrase than "I don't like him." Yet, the number of people who have called treason here on AN (and Twitter!) is excessive. The US Constitution is very specific. Article III, Section 3, Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only (my emphasis) in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The last American found guilty of treason was in... 1952. It is so rare for people to be accused officially of treason that even famous spies like Aldrich Ames, Robert Hanssen and Jonathon Pollard were prosecuted for espionage, not treason, because Congress had not declared was on the USSR. Sorry for being pedantic but when anyone says, "He's a traitor" whether about Trump or the group that invaded the Capitol, I can't help but feel they are hurting their own, perhaps otherwise not unreasonable, argument by not understanding the facts. Apologies for the intermission.
  6. When everyone is sure of something, that's when doubt arises.
  7. While this variant of Covid is somewhat milder than Delta, the people who may suffer severely are the old, those and those with weakened defences.
  8. Comparable to the Thai Grand Canyon I visited once. Totally bland
  9. Yes, the people have enough tanks and airplanes of course to rise against the military. Not. The military has never backed down from a fight against unarmed young people. Thammasart 1976 for instance. Thai troops crushed a demonstration against the country's new military-backed prime minister in 1992 after opening fire on crowds protesting the arrest of a key opposition leader. At least 24 people died in Bangkok as government troops shot civilians in 2010. Yes, nonsense indeed.
  10. I don't remember, did Farage ever make positive and helpful suggestions on how to do Brexit correctly or does he spend all his time criticizing after the fact?
  11. I thought the words"shush up" were rather polite. Being constantly interrupted while having a conversation is in itself impolite.
  12. Why do these kids need to earn money? Why aren't they in school?
  13. Timing couldn't be worse. MF hasn't been rejected as a government. Senators are concerned an MF government will lead to street protests. Now they will be proven correct. Waiting to allow the MF party to get support from the Senate before these rash provocations. Demonstrations are hardly likely to convince that MF can lead.
  14. Now that Chuwit has pointed a finger I doubt this shop will sell cannabis to a minor.
  15. Woe, woe and thrice woe. There appear those who believe the people are to be listened to... And if not, that they shall rise against the oppressor with pitchforks and small arms. While the oppressor has tanks.
  16. Can't help wondering how bad the situation is in India that Thailand is better. So if they can get back ice cream is cheaper and less profitable. Sad.
  17. Didn't realize the Americans had a Chancellor. Good for them!
  18. I remember Thanatorn saying he rushed back to Bangkok to change the ownership but was too late. Pita said he was holding the for someone or other. Pita couldn't sell to the public but as Intuch is the major shareholders at least approaching them seems sensible. In both cases the held shares in a media company defunct or not.
  19. I would agree except Thanathorn did the same thing roughly. Let's hope for the best.
  20. Both the number of shares and the time held have nothing to do with law. If the law says no shares in media companies then don't hold even one. iTV is still around and could have accepted the return of the shares.
  21. Sounds like the Proud to be Thai (or Thai Pride Party) Party has little to be proud of.
  22. It looks like they didn't ask for the bribe but he offered it and they accepted.
  23. Perhaps Thailand could be a green energy hub if they invest in green energy, but by using, and building more, lignite fired generators they are a hypocrisy hub.
  24. What a loving daughter. She has dad’s best interests at heart. I don’t know how she can fix this but wish her good luck.
