  1. Not sure sweeping statements are correct but there seems to be a tendency in the U.S. to put black people in prison. In Thailand it seems to be poor people without good legal representation.
  2. A sad case indeed. I wonder whether he will receive compensation? While I admit mistakes are sometimes made, this looks like outright carelessness. Looking at other cases of innocent people imprisoned, I noticed a lot, but not exclusively, are in the USA, with its massive number of people in prison, disproportionately men of color. For instance, Richard Phillips spent 46 years behind bars for something he didn't do. An innocent Maurice Hastings spent 38 years in prison. These days, DNA evidence helps, but it takes effort to review these cases. Even worse, some are executed and found innocent when it is too late. This is one of the reasons I don't think the death penalty is a good idea. I applaud the Thai authorities for investigating further and releasing Anucha after 80 days as we know it could have been much worse.
  3. At least once, I'd like to read that one person told another, "Come with me if you want to live!"
  4. "Indicating me OVER NOTHING,” Trump wrote." Fair enough, he should get off really easily when they show in court that they have nothing.
  5. He did once say he wanted to die in Thailand. Maybe his wish will come true.
  6. Interestingly, he did not absolve himself of all crimes during the period he held office as a civilian. This implies that he could be investigated for unusual wealth or corruption (if there is any evidence, of course).
  7. Simply an insult to Thai people's intelligence. The 1997 "people's constitution" gave people freedom, until the military took it away. You can reform the military to cut down the number of generals, cancel conscription - or whatever - but unless military bases are all moved to border areas and generals who rebel are imprisoned for life, not much will change.
  8. Life imitates art? On Sunday afternoon Donald Trump pitched a fit that his legal problems are keeping him from attending a golf tournament being held at his golf course in Aberdeen, Scotland.
  9. Bias? Latest news: Mark Meadows FOLDS on the stand in Georgia and implicates Trump. Seems he hung himself.
  10. Isn't it normal for the Thai government to ignore abject poverty? Catch him and look at his circumstances before passing judgement.
  11. Why doesn't the article give a reason for the departure of senior executives? Retired? Incompetence? Listed companies really should explain themselves a little more clearly.
  12. Shutting down Facebook for the actions of a few is essentially punishing the majority because of actions of a minority. While I don't particularly like Facebook I would defend people's right to use it if that's what they want. And if they get swindled it's usually caused by their own greed.
  13. Looking back at other requests for postponement until later, I imagine courts have heard, Saddam: "That date isn't convenient as it is the day before I have an important meeting to invade somewhere." Goering: "The Nuremburg trial needs to be postponed as I have an important event in Paraguay to attend the day before." Julius and Ethel Rosenberg: "The trial date is inconvenient as we have a super appointment with Stalin in Moscow the day before." Sorry for the sarcasm, but I doubt courts consider plaintiff appointments.
  14. There is a lot of money to be made from giving people hope of an afterlife. Write a book, become an evangelist, Hope means money for someone.
  15. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, 81, stops and stares blankly into space. Not too old. Sen. Chuck Grassley is 88 years old. Older than Biden but who cares?
  16. Have they asked permission from Thaksin or Prawit?
  17. An insurgency implies an armed force with finding from abroad. If the offenders are Thai it would be an insurrection. In the past the Chinese supplied weapons to local Thais. So which is it, insurrection or insurgency?
  18. Maybe ask Singapore how they do it?
  19. Poor kid. Just trying to earn a living no doubt.
  20. If the woman is Thai and wrote in Thai on her social media media post, it means foreign tourists dodged a bullet and will not be showing up in droves. Whew.
  21. Thanks. Good to know.
  22. People laughed at the early Japanese cars. The first one in my street was all chrome (yuck). Now their cars are number one for reliability. It was inevitable that China would catch up.
  23. Looking forward to seeing what happens, but without a knowledgeable opinion myself. Being a former President, and with the leniency shown to Trump to date (no handcuffs, chains or other treatment usually given to offenders), would he be imprisoned or given a suspended sentence? I have seen presidents jailed in those infamous "sh*thole countries" he denigrates but not the USA - to date. Any legal beagles want to give an informed opinion?
