  1. People are always excited at the prospect of independence - until they get it. Then they come with their hands out.
  2. Even the British parliament in June 2023 says EU is doing better that the UK. "Compared to the pre-pandemic level, UK GDP in Q1 2023 was 0.5% lower. This compares with Eurozone GDP being 2.2% higher than its pre-pandemic level, while US GDP was 5.4% higher." http://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN02784/assets/02fe7c88-f93f-4836-a33a-724c022ac762.png https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn02784/#:~:text=Compared to the pre-pandemic,UK GDP growth was 4.1%.
  3. Not sure finding possessing cyanide points to guilt. Unless they can prove it is the same cyanide. Isn't all cyanide the same? Witnesses work better.
  4. Wonder what were the unusual activities?
  5. If memory serves, the original reasons for the high tax on wine is that it is a luxury product and Thai people don't drink it. Well, not being a French colony that would be understandable, compared to Laos.
  6. Any child must be protected by not revealing their identity. Section 4 of the Child Protection Act defines “Child” means a person whose age is less than 18 years but does not include those who attain majority through marriage." Section 50 of the Act says, " No person shall advertise or disseminate by means of mass media or any other form of information technology the disclosed information in violation of the provisions under paragraph one or paragraph two." We should not photograph children and put those photos in the media without disguising their identity or getting written permission from their parents. There are also defamation laws. One has to assume that using a photo with an article about prostitutes implies the photo is associating her with the story. Your holiday photos may not be a problem, but if you are making money from photos I would be careful. P.S. The Thailand personal data protection act (PDPA) does not specifically use the word photo but does say “Personal Data” means any information relating to a Person, which enables the identification of such Person, whether directly or indirectly, but not including the information of the deceased Persons in particular. I take a photo to mean something that enables identification.
  7. Petulant. Looks like a six year old. Those cashiers may make a mistake and correct it if pointed out so i don't see why the fizzy explosion.
  8. You can see the overview of data protection laws in the link below. Personal info includes your photo (not talking about personal photos). It is especially notable that children under the age of 20 must receive parental consent before using their personal information. Publishing a clear photo without consent where the subject appears involved in a criminal offence is risky for the media as they could get sued for defamation. Which is why they usually blur the faces of alleged prostitutes. The photo Thai PBS showed has nothing to suggest it was published with permission. https://www.dataguidance.com/notes/thailand-data-protection-overview
  9. Who with? When did that war get declared by Congress?
  10. I don't suppose they have to buy new aircraft because the current board hasn't received any kickbacks yet? Nah, can't be that.
  11. From outside the US, people may want a plain vanilla president who doesn't create controversy every hour. Boring, steadfast Biden seems to meet that bill.
  12. Hundreds of years ago, low-ranking soldiers did not wear trousers or shirts. The tattoos on the legs were to make them feel less undressed (read it somewhere many years ago). Women have tattoos it seems because they like them. I have explained to an educated friend that tattoos above the neck at interviews may not go down well. Ignored me because she likes it and wants to feel good.
  13. Thanks. I did as you suggested.
  14. I do wish people would not throw around the word traitor so frequently when they really mean "someone I don't like." The Constitution* is very clear on what constitutes treason and involves aiding an enemy the U.S. is at war with. The U.S. is not at war with any country at present. However, there are many countries that the U.S. "dislikes". *Article III, Section 3, Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.
  15. Feeling uncomfortable that people without their faces blurred are shown in the article's accompanying photo. That looks illegal in light of current privacy laws. Unless they gave written permission.
  16. South America is indeed a case in point where the USA got rid of elected governments to install "their" boy. Thailand was a potential domino in Southeast Asia so their "influence" is heavily felt here, and possibly why they have not flatly condemned military coups in the past. I guess they like Pita. “He may be a son of a b1tch but he’s our son of a b1tch.” Cordell Hull referring to Somoza
  17. I have used them before and they are good. Took a while to find them as they are in a housing estate.
  18. I cannot think of a time when a politician has stated he is not confident. His boss Mr. T was confident before being ejected from parliament. Now he is confident that the military-dominated Senate will choose him. Prayut was confident everyone would vote for him. Thaksin is confident he will return in July.. Never known such rampant confidence.
  19. Our social habits are molded by our parents and teachers first, then friends, As the current older generation are showing a lack of concern for others, it is not surprising their kids are also showing antisocial attributes.
  20. With horse racing and lottery tickets the most popular forms of gambling, it appears authorities are not really concerned with gambling and more with getting their cut of illegal casinos.
  21. For just 7,000 Baht, she shouldn't worry.
