RTA condemned after ordering bedridden patient to report for conscription
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
So many lads try to escape conscription that the RTA may have seen it all and knew that in Thailand medical certificates can be faked. However, someone could have jumped on a motorcycle and visited the home to check. Once again, the Thai military breaks its face in the worst way. -
Just a suggestion but perhaps Thailand could promote the designated driver system? If just one person in the family would volunteer not to drink and the drunkards sit in the back it might help. Needs a govt committee to set up a campaign, of course... obviously wont work if the macho boys swear they can drive after a bottle of white whisky but might persuade their teetotal wives to drive.

EC Apologizes for Disruption of Advance Voting Registration System
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Why do Thai officials insist on proving their ineptness at every opportunity. Personally, I blame the low education of many officials, who are also poorly paid but work only for the health insurance and pension. -

Thaksin Won’t Return Home To Put Self Behind Bars: Ex-Red Shirt Leader

Just a guess but the govt may make a deal to allow Mr. T back so they can still choose the PM. Home or hotel arrest seem likely. -
Joe Biden administration blames chaotic Afghan pull-out on Trump
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
No one is pointing out that when Trump signed his deal with Afghanistan the military knew the date and were still unprepared as it drew near. I don't believe any politician is capable of organizing a military withdrawal. Military generals do. And they failed to be prepared. -

Things will continue but the RTP won't extort money from the girls. I guess the pubs will still be guilty of human trafficking though. -
Transport Ministry says swift tourism recovery has led to higher airfares
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Usually the more people want to fly the more competition from airlines and the lower the prices. This is just profiteering. As soon as people say it's too expensive but not coming to Thailand, prices must drop or risk offering cheaper competitors the advantage. -

Thailand Reverses Visa Policy for Tourists From 60 Countries
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I cannot imagine how the conversation with the PM went with the TAT. PM: "We need more money from those pesky foreign tourists to support the economy." TAT: "So true sir. We are doing our best. Rest assured that..." PM: "So I have decided to bring the number of days for visa exempt from 45 to 30 days in order to get rid of those blooming foreigners faster." TAT: "Wait, what???" PM: "Yes, your job will be to keep the revenue up without us having foreigners here causing all the crime." TAT: "Isn't this cutting off our nose to spite our face, sir?" PM: "Stop sympathizing with the foreign devils and squeeze more money out of them in 30 days. Maybe double national park entrance fees." ???? -
Spy balloon sent data to China in real time - report
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in World News
I still haven't figured out how the balloons were steered over military targets. No engines means they were at the mercy of winds. -
Going off at a tangent for a minute, this is what people can expect if the British government puts healthcare in the hands of insurance companies - refusals to pay. Yes, I understand that one should look at the small print but a lot of people don't bother, thinking the insurance will take care of them and not understanding that insurers will look for every way to deny paying out.

Thousands hospitalized due to air pollution in Thailand
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
The old blame game isn't going to help. Clearly farmers in the North believe the old slash and burn method is best because there is no cheap alternative. How did other countries overcome this problem? What are alternative methods that are inexpensive? I assume other countries overcame the problem so why can't Thailand learn from them?
