  1. Yes, these things are fought for - by liberal, so-called woke politicians. National Insurance (NI) started in 1921 in the UK via the efforts of David Lloyd George, the Liberal Chancellor of the Exchequer, not by struggle. Lloyd George studied Germany, which had compulsory NI since 1884. Longer than a few decades. There are 78 countries with universal healthcare (Countries with Universal Healthcare 2024), and none have ever demanded an end to it. Again, this is due to stupid politicians. This includes Thailand (Thaksin's 30 Baht scheme is counted as universal healthcare). Poverty, as you alluded to, is the result of modern governments simply not caring, e.g. the USA, or not being able to afford it, like some countries in Africa.
  2. Perhaps you forgot that most of Europeans have social security, healthcare and unemployment protections.
  3. What does it do to help household economy? Not much as the rich people make the big money, not the poor.
  4. Interesting that they do not say what will be a consequence of the pole moving.
  5. I have asked several university professors why no one in Thailand has invented or developed something the world wants. PhD students never write their thesis on anything the professors understand. Makes sense.
  6. By the reports of demonstrations and by protesting in other ways in Iran, I would hesitate to encourage nuclear bombing of Iran. There would be enormous civilian casualties or as the military is fond of calling them "collateral damage."
  7. I think wait until January to see how many things he does "on the first day". No point in worrying about what hasn't happened yet.
  8. Agreed. 4 flights per week London to Baku.
  9. Hegseth was a Major. Not a General. Is he an expert in defense planning?
  10. I wonder what other form of transportation could they have used? The vast distance is a problem as well as the timing of commercial flights to Baku from some countries. One of my colleagues flew there. She could have walked. No ships as it is double landlocked.
  11. I wonder if people taking yaba know that if they say it was cannabis they can be forgiven?
  12. But... But how are foreigners leasing land supposed to help lower household debt? No one is paying off their debt are they?
  13. These blooming foreigners coming here and stealing the soil from poor Thais. Send them back to where they came from (except me of course) (S) 😃
  14. Interesting! Making Musk responsible for cutting the civil service is like a bulldog performing surgery. Willing to give him a chance to prove himself. If the government budget to states (which is kind of like socialism because taking money from taxpayers nationally to pay states that don't pull their weight) is cut it will be interesting to see what happens to Kentucky, New Mexico, West Virginia, Alaska, Mississippi and Montana. They receive more than they pay tax to the government. Hope it doesn't happen.
  15. Hahaha! I do read Breibart now and then because I like a variety of viewpoints.
  16. Never read the Morning Star. Is it good? BTW. The Guardian is not left wing. Do you homework.
  17. If only the Haitian immigrants would stop eating pets, I would. Thais do not often kill pets.
  18. For a country that has to constantly fill potholes in the roads, a job well done is hardly a term that can be applied here. Look at the pollution created by coal fired generating plants like Mae Moh. No one cares. Nuclear energy good, Thai nuclear energy bad.
  19. Must be those darned Haitians.
  20. I always wondered why Islamic government insist women wear a hijab to hide their "treasure", which I understand is term the Koran uses because I understood a woman's treasure was in the pubic area.
  21. This is rather interesting as photos or videos of UFOs are usually so blurry you can't make out what it is. A pity they didn't post it. I read they can reach higher speeds than the American military but would like to know how they can travel faster-than-light to get here from planets billions of miles away. Or have they developed a warp drive?
  22. Thanks for your clear explanation.
  23. While I have never had a pension, I sympathize with people who cannot live on what the UK pays. Can someone please enlighten me on why many UK pensioners in Thailand appear not to have savings? Or perhaps many do. I don't know.
