Somehow, not surprised.
Having worked with and known personally several government officers, they are frankly afraid of being sued if they don't follow the law, no matter how petty it seems to foreigners.
The law states that MPs are not allowed to hold shares in a media company. It doesn't differentiate between 2 shares or 42,000 shares.
* Thanathorn ignored this. Banned.
* Peta ignored it - off to court.
Peta held the shares for many years as an executor. Years during which he could have disbursed them to someone at any time. Finally, he disbursed them this year. As if somehow he just realized the sh*t he was in.
If the constitutional court finds him innocent of holding media shares, the court could be in trouble. As many here want to ignore the illegality, perhaps the court will too and everyone will be happy.
Personally, I think Peta has been too naive by not understanding that the old guard would check everything about him to find a tool with which to remove him.
Footnote: Wikipedia says: There were recent (from 2022) attempts to revive ITV with the aim of attacking Pita. ITV's description was changed from “a holding company principally engaged in the non-financial business” to “television media” in 2022, despite the company being unable to carry out television broadcasts. The description was changed again in 2023 to “advertising media and returns from investments”.
