Elon Musk and Sir Keir Starmer Clash Over 'Civil War' Remarks
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
It must be difficult to be neutral if you are a government trying to defend a minority under attack in response to a Welshman killing three kids. Whatever Starmer does will be seen as wrong. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/southport-stabbing-court-murder-hearing-b2589422.html https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/clashes-uks-southport-after-killing-three-girls-leaves-many-police-injured-2024-07-31/ -

Realistically speaking, do you think Trump will last till November?
Purdey replied to watthong's topic in Political Soapbox
I admit that I feel sorry for him. Trump is really too old to work so hard. He should be looking at retirement with a free bed, three hot meals a day and a few hours in the exercise yard. -
Condoms help not only to prevent pregnancy but STDs too. Just read that Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) injections twice a year are 99% effective at preventing HIV but I guess it's not everyone's choice.

The fact Iraq is mentioned is interesting as Iraq was not an ally of Iran before the Gulf War.

Kim Jong Un Hopes for Trump's Return, Elite Defector Reveals

There must be some sympathy for the ordinary citizens of North Korea. Let's hope the west thinks of a solution that doesn't involve millions dying. -

Does the Thai government really care what America thinks? I doubt they have a real hold over elites. Unless the government knows what America will do they won't worry. -
Human-Induced Climate Change Creates Olympic "Heat Dome" Crisis
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Thanks. Except climate change is measured as long-term temperature change globally (think over 100 years), not in one country or in one season. Appreciate the participation though. -

How many years did they test rockets before getting to the moon? It's as long as a piece of string... -

Thanks. I get what you say but we simply don't see eye to eye on how long it will take to create an energy source to do heavy manufacturing. I doubt John F. Kennedy knew for sure that America would land people on the moon, but he encouraged others to pursue that dream. It's wonderful what Man can do when he sets his mind to it. -

Not sure you really meant stop using fossil fuels tomorrow or just trying to make a point that we should stop looking at alternatives. When I attended an anti-Vietnam war demonstration in the 70s, pesky kids were hoping to stop the war "tomorrow". Their demonstrations did not stop the war but made politicians aware of the opposition to the war. I believe that is what those pesky kids are (rightfully) doing about oil. Making politicians aware that the oil industry is helping to kill the planet. Exxon scientists knew that 30 years ago, and rising temperatures are the result. Man is a funny creature, a carbon-based fuel lifeform that has created amazing things. I don't see it impossible to find other energy sources. -
Thailand's Central Bank Plans Credit Card Minimum Payment Revision
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Lowering interest rates won't help solve the problem of people borrowing because they see it as a way to get things today, not in 5 years. Persuading people not to buy a motorcycle out pickup truck is a really uphill solution. -

Having a closed mind must be a wonderful thing. Young people protesting to stop permanent damage to the world. What power do they have except peaceful protest? Not everyone is selfish. -

Just to clarify what you wrote: "We need to kill the world in order for people to live." -

You really are stuck in a groove of not thinking things will change. Honestly, I doubt if protesters have a timeline to get what they want. They simply see it as something that must be done. -

A hundred years ago, men would tap on your bedroom window to wake you up. Then someone invented alarm clocks. Ice was delivered by horse and cart. Then someone invented refrigerators. Time moves forward. You are confusing the time it has taken to create fusion with the idea it is impossible. When I read about the suffragettes, old men thought giving them the vote to women was stupid too. Some men objected to women having the vote because they believed them to be inferior. It was suggested that women could not think out matters coolly and calmly. Others would not agree to women’s suffrage because they did not want change. Women had never voted before. Why should they start now? A further objection involved property. In 1900, few women were householders or lodgers. If the vote were given to them, then it would have to be given also to men who were not householders or lodgers. At that time political parties were not prepared to do this. Oh, those annoying women with their demonstrations, throwing themselves under the king's horse etc. The women's movement was founded in 1903. They didn't get the vote until 1928. 25 years of annoying demonstrations! I understand you think things are so difficult - next to impossible - but how long did the atomic bomb take to be made? Must needs when the devil drives. These people are on the side of the angels and as for being a nuisance, how else can they change the minds of old politicians? I hope you weren't thinking they did this to upset only you?
