If you ever travel to China, check out the prices at Starbucks! Starbucks in China is really for the nouveau riche, meaning your average Joe can't afford it. (Coffee in general is ridiculously expensive in China.) Compared to that, Starbucks in Thailand is cheap. I guess, they take selfies, then tell folks at home: "Hey, I can afford going to Starbucks!" (Mainland Chinese hardly ever drink coffee, so that might explain it.)
I don't use my card for over-the-counter payments in Thailand. But here in Oz/NZ they shove the card reader right under your nose to key in your PIN. Often they don't even ask you whether you want to pay cash.
I've been to many countries, but the time a Thai IO needs for one passport is one of the longest I experienced. Not sure, whether the computer system is slow, or whether the IOs just have a 'sabai sabai' attitude... Doesn't help with the notoriously long queues, of course, esp. as only half the counters are manned usually.
Damn, that's unfortunate... Now they will have to find 5 Thai heroes again in the next few days, returning cash and jewelry to tourists, in order to counter this negative news item...
Because Thailand is one of only a few countries in the world (another being China), where English language skills are neither required to get such a job, nor seen as a necessity.
Well, some bank employees can't be very smart (as for my observation). - As for this kind of fraud, do they really think they can get away with it? Not to mention using the stolen money to buy a condo... You would think they'd leave the country, at least.
IMHO just a 'whitewashing' of illegal Thai workers' activities abroad. - Have you ever heard or read about 'informal workers' or 'little ghosts' when Thai media or government agencies talk about illegal workers in Thailand?
