  1. Same reason they ask you: "How many times have you come to Thailand?" - As soon as they think that you know the language, tricks, and prices, they become less interested in you. It was once different, but that was like 15-20 years ago...
  2. Same experience. Whenever I was in a relationship, the girl adjusted to my preferred Western food habits, which made the occasional Thai food bearable.
  3. What I don't like is food that only tastes like chili peppers and nothing else, while upsetting my stomach... (Well, Tom Yum Kung, Pad Thai, or Pad See Ew once in a while is okay. But I never really got hooked on Thai "desserts". Same for their sugary cakes and pastries.)
  4. Tell the gold shops, a flood of gold chain sellers are on their way... 😆
  5. Today at Suvarnabhumi Airport I saw many Indians, incl. a few tour groups... Are the Indians the 'new Chinese'? 😆
  6. There haven't been any Israeli settlements in Gaza since 2005. People in Gaza voted a terrorist organisation (Hamas) into government, that not only started several wars with Israel from that territory, but also used it as their fiefdom for that very purpose. The last elections were in 2006, so Hamas is not longer legitimately in government. What have people in Gaza done against all this (dictatorship, using Gaza as a base for war against Israel, etc.); nothing! So, one could argue that they brought it on themselves, same as people in Axis Powers in 1945.
  7. He will probably announce the future annexation of Svalbard... 😆
  8. Meaning that actually the mama-san (or papa-san) found you alluring... 😆
  9. Usually when I read posts on this board, esp. the ones unrelated to SE Asia (e.g. discussing Trump, and U.S. politics)... 😆
  10. If you've been on Immigration's radar (as CallumWK implied) before, yes, possibly. Also, your airline may insist on a ticket out as well.
  11. Yes, news about booming vs. stagnant tourism coming out at dizzying speed, and very hard to determine which ones are based on facts, and which ones on wishful thinking...
  12. Thailand more and more becoming a police state. And they wonder, not to mention other reasons, why the tourists stay away... 😆
  13. Soi 6 used to be an alley were you get a BJ... Went there after many years to check out what had become of it in 2023, and it had transformed into a party zone, reminiscent of Walking Street in it's heyday. Why?
  14. I booked the exact hotel room in Bangkok two months apart. The second time, the price was more than 3% higher (no currency fluctuation involved), so over one year it's probably +18-20%! No wonder, tourists pick cheaper destinations...
  15. 4. Charge an entry fee of 500$/night, solving the problem of overtourism, while making it, finally, a destination for the wealthy... 😆
  16. Yes, Thailand, compared to other destinations, used to be a medium-quality, but inexpensive destination. Now it's just one of many similar destinations in SE Asia, but one that is more expensive than most. Add the lack of service-culture and English-skills by staff, and one can see why, as a destination, it has more and more trouble competing with others.
  17. "Oshikatsu" (or oshi-katsu) is a Japanese fandom subculture where people spend significant time and money to support their favorite entertainers, characters, anime, sports teams, or other beloved figures, called an "oshi". And this has what to do with Thailand? How many young Japanese adore Thai anime, sports teams, and figures? Okay, there is one, 'Lisa', who is, probably, hardly ever in Thailand these days... 😆
  18. I'm sure, the IOs are all financial experts and know the most common currency exchange rates by heart... 😆
  19. Who knows? According to "The Rest Is Bulls*|!", Bibi seems to be a Vader reincarnation... 😆
  20. Musk is definitely a fascist, but, thank god, he is not in charge anymore. Not that he was ever elected into any public office.
  21. Wow, my opinion of the current government just went up quite a bit!
  22. 2 eggs less than 5 Bhat each yummy Maybe the omelette contains edible gold... 😆
