  1. I used my Thailand-issued Visa debit card internationally, e.g. Down Under without problems. The only place where it didn't work was joke-airline Air Asia's website. I would presume that Union Pay is the same.
  2. Interesting. That would explain why another office cannot transfer the extension stamp. So, technically, I should only get an exit stamp into my new passport when leaving by air.
  3. Well, okay. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Immigration office that originally issued the extension, said: "You don't live here anymore..." - Anyway, I'll just present both passports on my way out.
  4. Update: tried to transfer extension to new passport at Chaengwattana, but was told: "Cannot". Reason is that it was issued in another province.
  5. I did it many years ago; it wasn't complicated. However, I did it at the local branch of HSBC, which closed down years ago. If I were you, I wouldn't go to a small branch, but, if possible, the main branch, or a branch regularly dealing with foreign customers.
  6. No, I don't. That's why I put it in quotation marks.
  7. Considering that the inflation is, reportedly, "very low like one percent, or so", 4.9 percent doesn't seem so bad. On the other hand, of course, with "unemployment below 2 percent", you'd think that there's more pressure to raise employees' pay...
  8. Interesting. Yes, new passport, and I won't be able to use the extension again. So, I guess, I will just turn up at the airport with both passports, perhaps going a bit earlier, just in case. Arriving in another SE Asian country, will there be any issues, if I only have the 'exit stamp' from Thailand in my (new) passport?
  9. Will I need a copy of the new passport?
  10. Thank you. My current extension will have expired by the time I return to Thailand.
  11. I am about to get a new passport. My current permission of stay is a Non-O Retirement extension. I'm planning to leave the country. Do I need to transfer the visa extension to my new passport, or can I just present both passports on the way out?
  12. Many years ago I exchanged Dutch guilders at an exchange booth in Bangkok. Staff didn't know them, even though they were on the display, so they looked the currency up in a booklet.
  13. Well, doing actual police work is not every Thai cop's priority anyway...
  14. Yes, this will solve the problem of air pollution... LOL - Seems, unlike others, the incense, candle and firecracker makers have not much of a lobby with government politicians. They must have forgotten to deliver brown envelopes...
  15. I doubt that they thought this out for even 3 seconds...
  16. My bet is that the economy (and people's incomes) aren't doing as well as is proclaimed every other day, so this is the simplest solution to keep the masses happy...
  17. "Immigration Bureau Boosts Staff for New Year Rush" Better late than never... LOL (Yes, I get it; it's about Chinese New Year.)
  18. You'd be in transfer on a stopover, so no problem as long as you don't need to check in again at Don Muang. I'd happily pay the 30 bucks more to avoid a 12-hour bus ride, unless, of course, you want to see the countryside from the bus window.
  19. Almost zero immigration, and less migrant workers, while birth rates have been way down for a while...
  20. Yes, as the (relatively) high costs of transportation in Bangkok don't help. If they need to take both, the BTS and the MRT, plus motorbike taxis, etc., then a day's earnings are almost used up already.
  21. People in Cambodia are much poorer than people in Thailand, but they actually smile...
